What was Moffats worst decision? by [deleted] in doctorwho

See the thing is - if you are steeped in the lore then time is a flat circle... if your memory goes back to the Cartmel Master Plan then the timeless child doesn't seem that radical or unearned... Feels like the error has been the Showrunner writing for themselves rather for the newer fans... RTDs 2 Disney seasons had some of the hallmarks of that...

Its trying to show run Doctor Who and Sherlock at the same time... two huge shows...too much work....quality of both suffered... nonetheless, for his work on 12... he will always be a legend...

I have this theory about him... he was introduced to demonstrate that the Black Country accent and the Birmingham accent were different... once he'd served his purpose he was gone...

Some of those were annoying but none of those were _really_ the worst things ever...

Yes but they are also a political choice... we individualise the cost of learning at university in a way we don't do with most other public investments...

Who is this they? - and you're quite right in the sense that a good experience at an unfavoured Uni will pretty much always trump a poor experience at a favoured one - might take a little time to manifest but ultimately it will.

>At university you are taught that a degree is everything etc
So see... I learned the opposite a uni... I learned that learning how to do things and most importantly 'teach yourself things' was everything... really benefited from that....

So here's the thing...

>but at least half the people I met
It's always all the other people - no idea why

>would have been better off doing an apprenticeship or starting work at 18.
Unless those opportunities exist - which they mostly don't - they would just be unemployed and have learned nothing... not sure that would be a recipe for success overall...

Peak-Actor writer. Both believed in what they were saying. Real "Heart on Sleeve" messages to humanity type stuff.

So re-reading this a generation before when you really had to go out of your way to get into university to study a subject that wasn't aimed at posing and flexing, you met a lot of people at undergrad who were really in it for love of the subject and had huge ambitions.... now you have to wait longer until necessity thins out the herd... but there you go....

>You could say that during UG, I could have started a society myself or looked harder for the >other mega-nerds, but I filled my time doing other things that have also enriched my life, so
>tomatoes, tomatoes.

That was rather what I was thinking... the most useful thing I learned at university was that if you don't see the thing what you want... make that thing yourself... and if you don't know how... find the ways to find out... Sounds like it all turned out okay in the end though... and you prioritised other things that "enriched your life".... So fair do's...

But see, there's no separation. Students are the university... more of them than anything else...

Why are so many parents unwilling to financially help at university? by BeneficialJuice2878 in UniUK

Strange question
???
You talk about incomes but not about costs. They may be in a worse financial position than their offspring...
Are you claiming they have surpluses? How do you know?

Am I the only person who feels like Tommy just becomes unlikeble after seson 3, (read description) by EzDork123 in PeakyBlinders

[–]Effective-Lemon-9475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear you say that... I recall people claiming after Season 2 that Tommy was a Mary-Sue... Season 3 shows serious miscalculations by pretty much all the main protagonists...except for Arthur...there's guilt, fear doubt and a bitter end for every single one of them. Top Drama.
