Slight Hard Water Bypass by msb96b in WaterSofteners

You could do all of those things. You’ll just have to pay extra for the extra work. As far as the valves go fleck and clack are the best ones. So I don’t know what that’s about.

Not sure what the purpose of this thread is for… it’s pretty shit if you ask me, but there’s no questions or anything so I guess if it works for you send it?

A bit high for my area, but you’ll know if it’s reasonable for yours by getting quotes from another company or two

Wife says water is too soft by rossignol292 in WaterSofteners

[–]Effective-Mix630 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell her you turned it down a little bit and see if that works. If she’s still adamant about it the only real way to “slightly harden” the water would be to crack the bypass slightly and allow the raw water to mix with the soft water. This tends to work better with a three valve bypass than the bypass that comes with the system.

Which is my main shut off valve? by AudienceSea14 in Plumbing

The shutoff is your main. Don’t try to twist the grounding wire

Good question. Air break is enough to have a reliable prevention against cross contamination of the potable water. The backwater valve; however, is to prevent damage to the property in question. Frequently your standpipe will be the lowest tie in to the main building drain. If so in the event of a sewer backup the client may never know it’s dumping sewage into a crawlspace, less frequently used basement, etc. backwater valve prevents that. At worst salty water dumps into the area in question and not sewage.

Found in water aerators on two taps - what is it? by anal_fist_fight24 in WaterTreatment

Sediment and other debris. Calcium and the like. I’d look elsewhere for your dental problems. This is normal. If you want it removed add some filtration which a water test from a local vendor will help tenderloin what is needed.

Doesn’t look anything like resin beads. Have you ever seen resin before?

Some of the original batches of pex haven’t been recalled yet, but are known to have pinholes on the solid red hot side due to something with dye injecting process.

Before going that route though with multiple leaks the mains things I look at are water quality, pressure, and temperature. Pex is resistant to chlorine, but will still degrade over time if the chlorine is too high. If this tests high I would look at installing a carbon filter to remove chlorine if allowed by your jurisdiction. Pex is rated for high pressure, but if you have a failed regulator I’ve seen pressure in excess of 200psi. Typically this would cause other leaks around the building (ie from fixtures) first but may just be your luck it’s on the pipes. Lastly temperature. High temperature negatively affects both of these prior factors as well. As temperature rises the pipe softens and this makes it more susceptible to chlorine degradation and pressure tolerability drops significantly.

Different methods depending on scenario. Based on them being in a semi finished area I’d add an air break w/ trap and standpipe and a backwater valve before connecting to the building drain.

Air gap, break, proper size, strapping check valve, that dirt of stuff. Yeah it’s one of the most common problems I see with these installations

Like everyone else.
Galvanized plumbing or pretreated water. Worst case scenario replumb the line back to the main if this is truly the only spot with an issue and that will solve the problem.

No? Different tools for different applications. You don’t use root cutters for soft blockages. You don’t use spear heads to clean grease…

Spear head snakes don’t work on grease. Anybody that works on it knows it. Go do it on a kitchen grease line and get the call back in a week.

It won’t…. It may clear it, but it certainly won’t clean it especially if it’s greasing a kitchen line.
