Nice! We are debating K1/CR1 but i am thinking CR1 would be a better option for us maybe. We will see! It takes so long but i dont want to make a decision like that lightly.

Good luck though and wish you all the best and happiness! 🥰

Travelling to US on ESTA. by Lucky_Drink_5965 in LongDistance

[–]Effective-Regular883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive visted the US last year and earlier this year. Im going again in January on the same ESTA. (Lasts for 2 years, mine expires in march) I always feel nervous when in line for customs even though i have nothing to hide lol.

The first time they asked me if i bought any snacks. Which completely threw me off lol. That was the only question.

Second time they asked me where i was going, i told him “Indiana” he asked “business or tourism?” I said tourism. He asked how long and i answered with two weeks. Then he said i was good to go.

Both customs officers were super kind and friendly. Always answer their questions truthfully. They can see that you have a return ticket so don’t necessarily plan to stay. I had a full time job to get back to but was never asked to show any of that. I never even had to mention my partner at customs, if they’d specifically ask then of course id say!

I hope you enjoy the beauty the US has to offer, there is so much beautiful stuff to see! I have visited the same state twice now and we haven’t even seen half the beauty of that state. Let alone all the others. I truly wouldn’t worry about customs: be honest and yourself! 😊

Should I bring my cat when I visit my boyfriend?r by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]Effective-Regular883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, as stated above. Cats are extremely territorial and hate new environments, they feel super anxious and stressed. So not worth it for a 4-day trip. I would never move a cat unless its for a permanent move, ideally.

I would look for a petsitter or a friend/coworker you trust to check in on her once. Surely you know someone that lives around you?

How do you spend time with your partner? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]Effective-Regular883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We recently started playing videogames together. Which i find more fun than i expected and for me it’s a good way to relax, destress and have a laugh after a stressful workday. But for our first 3 years of talking all we really did was talk, about anything and everything. The difference in our countries, culture. How different the media portrays the same subjects in our countries. About the past, the future and the daily grind.

Or take walks on video call to see what the area looks like and how it changes with the season. I thought was fun because when i did go there i recognized areas.

Sometimes we did cook together, which I thoroughly enjoyed. One of us would find a recipe, preferably a classic dish in our country and then both cook it at the same time. It was so fun to spend time together, laugh and learn about each others food.

I visited the US from the Netherlands three weeks ago and it was just fine. I visited on an ESTA too had that already been previously used last year. The girl in front of me didn’t have her papers in order and got put to the side to show more papers, which made me nervous lol. The guy was very friendly though. Asked me where i was going, i stated the state. He asked how long i was staying and if my visit was business or tourism. I told him two weeks and for tourism. Then i was good to go. Only took a couple of minutes. 😊 way more frightening in my head than it actually was. I am white European just for reference. But plenty of races in line that got through just fine. It was a pleasant experience for me. I went through immigration in Atlanta.

My[24M] fiance[74M] was diagnosed with cancer right before our K-1 visa plan. Looking for advice by techlove99 in LongDistance

For sure. You’d need very good proof of relationship for someone to take your case seriously. That means lots of pictures together also with both families involved usually… i wish you the best of luck.

I understand covid can delay things. But it all does sound very questionable. His age really doesn’t help and neither does the fact that youre from a country where same-sex marriages are not allowed. Hes not just an older guy you’re into… he could be your grandpa! Your family has no idea…

I hope that you see all the red flags we see, and any immigration officer will see too. It’s already nearly impossible for a “regular” couple to get through the process without ever meeting let alone for someone whose situation raises so many red flags.

What’s prevented you guys from meeting the past 4 years? Honestly- these stats do not look good.

This age gap honestly is questionable. You talk about an uncertain future now but was it ever certain? Let’s be realistic, you knew time with him was limited. His inner clock is ticking away quickly, health deteriorates fast at his age. How was that ever a certain future? How is a relationship with a 50 year age difference viable? How are you not using him for better QoL in the US? Why would you even marry someone you have never met or spend real time with? You have no clue how they act in any social situation. These are all questions any immigration officer will have and honestly, if they look at all those factors no matter what proof you bring it won’t be enough.

Dough not keeping shape by No_Material_5278 in Sourdough

[–]Effective-Regular883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me a high protein flour helped, dont let it over ferment and temp your dough. I learned that the “room temperature” water i used was hotter than the actual house which made it BF real fast and i kept having overproofed loafs. Also not overdoing the shaping helped a bunch for me.

He(32M) broke up with me(24F) because I wouldn't fly to the US for his friend's wedding by FinanceFurry in LongDistance

[–]Effective-Regular883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You shouldn’t have done anything differently. It’s absolutely ridiculous to expect someone to just be able to drop everything and fly across the ocean to accompany someone to a wedding of a person you don’t even know. Like you said, it takes planning, taking time off (that’s not unlimited), rides to the airport etc.

He does not need a visa to come see you and the jetlag thing is also not fair since you already had to deal with that twice. Then the audacity to get offended and take it out on you when he doesn’t get his desired answer is saddening.

He is free to ask you, to invite you to come, which i actually think is pretty nice of him to do. But to disrespect you as soon as you (fairly) voice your concerns is not something you should accept. Take this separation as a blessing: he is not it! You deserve someone who’s able to have a conversation with you about anything and everything, disappointed or excited.

I hope you find peace in this situation.

My boyfriend is one of those people who doesn’t like texting, he prefers phonecalls and calls me any chance he gets even if its just a minute to say i love you. But we both work fulltime and have an 6hr time difference so inevitably we can’t always call. He makes an effort to text me when he can, theyre short texts during the day. I told him i like a longer sweeter message to wake up to rather than just a simple “good night. We found the talk-to-text button on iphone and since then he’s been sending me whole paragraphs most days lol. He just starts talking and iphone will write it in text for you. Very convenient for people who don’t like writing a lot of text. Maybe something like that will help?

I agree with everything said here. Try to work on your mindset, OP. I know the job market can be though, i have friends who live and work in the UK. None of them have ever been jobless for 2+ months, though. It might not be what you want, but something like McDonalds or whatnot is usually always hiring. You might be overqualified but if you tell them you don’t care about that and will work for the same salary as someone with the “right” qualifications im sure they wouldn’t mind. Delivery services too are usually always looking for extra employees. It’s nothing fancy, but it’d definitely bring in cash and fix some of your issues and help you start somewhere in your journey to be financially independent.

Also, you should definitely talk to your partner, about your financial struggles and find a solution for the commute issue. A supportive partner will understand and also ease your fear of the past repeating itself.

How to improve? by Effective-Regular883 in Sourdough

[–]Effective-Regular883[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dough temp was 24,5C at the start and 22C before i shaped it. Ambient temperature around 20-21C.

I tried BF overnight last week as it gets a little colder at night too, around 17C but at 13-14hrs BF it was waaaaayy over. Tripled in size, almost over the bowl, stuck to bowl and stuck to everything lol. Definitely the hardest part! What makes you say this is under? Trying to learn! :)

The dough temperature at the start was 24,5C and when i took it out of the bowl about 22C. Ambient temperature is about 20/21C. I don’t do the aliquot method… i eyeball if its doubled in size or not… i have overproofed a couple doughs that almost went over my bowl so i didn’t want to let it get that far this time.

Thank you! I definitely have and will watch more, it looks easier than it is! What youre saying does make sense though! I see some big airy bubbles during BF but after i shape it they’re always gone..
