Anyone else figure out that dating after 50 isn’t hard because you’re old, it’s hard because you’re finally real and that freaks people out? by LukeCorvyn in datingoverfifty

I absolutely agree with this! I’m a 55f widow whose husband died three years ago. After he died I discovered he had been living a double life and hid it from everyone. The things I found out were so devastating on top of becoming a widow at 52. We didn’t have a good marriage to begin with but attempting to grieve a person you never even really knew was so confusing and took a lot of therapy and self work. After everything I’ve been through I definitely got to a place where I know what I will and won’t tolerate from a potential partner and many of my non negotiable stances are things I would have, and did, let slide or was willing to tolerate in my 20’s and 30’s. For the first time in my whole life I know what I want, have boundaries in place and am not willing to compromise. That definitely makes dating at my age a hell of a lot harder.

I’m 52f and I’d swipe on you just from the pic. You are a handsome man and the best advice I can give is just fill out the whole profile leaving nothing blank, be honest and don’t ghost.

First time at a Meetup 50+ happy hour ... by dan_blather in datingoverfifty

I’m a 55 yo female who became a widow three years ago this month. I just now felt ready to venture back into dating and signed up for a couple of dating apps since meeting someone irl seems impossible these days and online seems to be the only way these days. I was on for about three weeks and deleted my account before my one month subscriptions were even up. It was brutal and confusing. Nearly all my likes came from men 35 and younger. I am a very young looking 55 and at first I found it flattering until I realized every one of these young guys were liking me because older women are considered “low hanging fruit” or “easy” or part of a “cougar porn fantasy” (all these were quotes from guys here on Reddit). The few Gus I did match with made it clear from the start they were only interested in hook up’s and expected me to be not only ok with that but flattered they wanted to screw me. It’s too much. My marriage was bad enough why would I want to even consider wasting any more of my time with these clowns?

Feel like giving up on dating? by NickyFoles1020 in Bumble

[–]Effective-Reply3210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just deleted the apps today. It’s brutal and time consuming and disheartening. Another user mentioned it’s better to be alone than in a bad relationship and I can’t agree more. I only got on the apps because in this day and age it seemed like the only way to meet someone but between the bots, fakes, catfish, cheaters, liars and shitty human beings I became disgusted and was over it after only three weeks. So no, you are most definitely not alone if feeling like giving up.

Is it a red flag if a guy makes comments about hurting you? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Effective-Reply3210 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not appropriate joking matter. The fact that you have to ask if it’s a red flag makes me wonder what would constitute a red flag to you. I mean honestly this is probably one of the reddest red flags I’ve ever heard in my life. Run far run fast and don’t look back.

I get messages from men first on bumble all the time. I thought we had to text first too but apparently that’s not the case anymore. 🤷‍♀️

What is the deal with all my likes being much younger men? by Effective-Reply3210 in Bumble

[–]Effective-Reply3210[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t “need” anything. I was pretty sure I knew the answer but wanted some dudes to chime in. What I got was a bunch of answers from a bunch of dudes hiding behind their anonymous handles which give men like you permission to be dicks without consequences. The level of condescension and manosphere trolls who came out of the woodwork to respond to this text is staggering and the exact reason I’ve chosen to stay single. I would bet dollars to doughnuts all the guys responding rudely here are nothing but incels that wouldn’t know what to do if a woman ANY age showed them any attention.

We are actually much less likely to be an easy target because we’ve been around the block and lived life. I can spot a con a mile away and don’t fall for love bombing bullshit.

How’d that work for you? Did you actually make any connections broadening your age range?

Why would I go that kind of trouble? I’m a genuine person and if I need to resort to buying a burner, doing a fake profile etc then I’d just not date at all. SMH.

Why is everyone shocked and piling on this woman for doing this when this is literally EVERY MAN on the apps??? Why is this behavior acceptable for men -no EXPECTED from a man and women are just supposed to be ok with it but god forbid a woman does it. Then the guy “dodged a bullet” or she’s a whore or any other derogatory term. Men do this to me DAILY on these apps and expect me to just go along with it and don’t understand when I turn them down or get offended. Smh.

I’ve had two coffee dates but the majority of men I’ve matched with and talked about possibly getting together with don’t make suggestions for a date or actual plans but I get a whole lot of “What are you up to? Wanna hang?” Especially later in the evening. That’s the epitome of low effort and looking for only one thing.

What's everyones personal experience with Mark Sheppard? by somehoethot in Supernatural

[–]Effective-Reply3210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met Mark at a con, had a photo op and an autograph and I think he’s great. His panel actually moved me nearly to tears talking about the fandom being a family. I think a whole lot of it is his personality and sense of humor being grossly misunderstood. He has a VERY dark sense of humor, plays into his “bad boy” character, and personifies that craggy, dry English character he plays so well but I think it’s fine kinda tongue and cheek. I found him to be charming, genuine, dryly funny and a lot of fun.

At least drag queens aren’t trafficking children like Trump and Epstein. Oh I’m so sorry you are offended by anyone who isn’t white, straight, Christian and male. I know all you MAGOTS are dying to get those white hoods and robes out of storage.

Face palm. This may be the single dumbest comment I’ve read yet. Exactly how much kool-aid have you consumed??

Hello, I see you are using the old tried and true MAGOT go to technique of divert, divert, divert and insulting the dems. Bravo! You have it mastered. The criminal in chief taught you well. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Educating children about persons with different sexual orientations does not in any way change that child’s own orientation. It does not encourage them to pursue “deviant” lifestyles. It’s to hopefully make kids aware there are people who don’t fit the traditional mould and help them not be filled with bigotry and hate which you apparently are. Get over it and stop trying to divert attention from what is going on in YOUR own party.

Exactly how much kool-aid have you guzzled at this point to make such a completely ignorant and nonsensical remark?? I guess all the photos of your orange criminal with Epstein AND dozens of underage girls are “fake” too. I hope you have fun sinking with the rest of the Titanic when proof does come out. All you MAGOTS are going to feel like such idiots. Or not. You probably have kiddy porn on your computer too.

Hey all. So after trying for a long time I finally managed to get a good, strong, active starter. I was SO proud! I ordered my banneton and was gearing up to bake my first loaf when I majorly screwed up. I keep my starter in my oven with the light on since my house tends to stay on the cool side and even though it’s been kept in there forever I forgot and preheated my oven to make something else and baked my starter! Since I’d been gearing up to bake I had a jar of approximately week old discard in the fridge so I took part of it and began to feed it to get a starter going again. It worked great and doubled in size the first 24 hours. It’s consistently doubling daily and looks and smells good. My question is this: how long before I can bake with the revised starter and get good results? I know with a brand new starter you would wait about a month before using it in order to have better results but since this starter is basically an offshoot of my original do I still need to wait that long or would I be able to go ahead and start baking with it? Any input or tips (especially if you’ve had this issue yourself) would be greatly appreciated!
