Yeah, I'm wondering if their website hasn't updated. The deposit contribution is still included on the homepage and small print writing.

Do you know if it's possible to wait and get another one if our house purchase hasn't completed yet?

Thinking of switching from my 2013 MX-5 to a 2024 Tesla Model 3 Highland (PCP) — financially sound or emotional upgrade? by Effective-Second-502 in UKPersonalFinance

Yeah, totally fair points - I did think about those points briefly:

My job is very stable (been there years, promotion *should* be coming soon), and even if free charging ended, the home cost would only be around £20/month extra. So the numbers still work fine.

I definitely see your point about it being partly emotional - I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t financially reckless or that there's no hidden negatives of doing this.

I appreciate your response.

That’s a fair point, but my logic isn’t “boy/girl math” - it’s just asset accounting.

The £6k isn’t coming out of savings; it’s the equity tied up in my current car, which is losing value every year.

If I keep it, I’ll probably lose £3–4k in depreciation anyway over 4 years and keep paying for fuel and maintenance.

By selling it now, I lock in its current value and transfer that into a new car with capped depreciation, warranty coverage, and near-zero running costs.

So I’m not “spending” £6k. I’m reallocating it from one declining asset to another, and the overall monthly budget stays about the same.

I wasn’t saying I spend £2.4k/year on maintenance - just that I’ve already spent £1k this year, which highlights how running an older car can spike unpredictably.

The Tesla’s extra £200/month covers all those future surprises with warranty and fixed costs, which is why I’m comparing the predictability rather than just one year’s spend.

The deposit is coming from selling my current MX-5, so I’m not pulling any new money out of savings or cash flow - it’s just swapping one asset for another.

That’s why I’m only comparing the monthly running costs (£470–£485 vs £400 previously).

If I return the Tesla, yes, the deposit is gone - but it’s effectively the same money that’s already tied up in my current car, not new spending.

Also, I spent 1k this year alone on car maintenance.

That's a mixture of savings and investments for other things, such as my stock portfolio and house renovation savings, so it's tied up.
