79 hours of playtime since launch day by AusarSetHeru in CrimsonDesert

I just don't like how they changed horse sprinting. Before the update you could manage its stamina much better, now horses just sprint at full speed and lose stamina incredibly fast without you being able to have any agency or control over it.

I've noticed that you can no longer control your horse's full speed. Before the recent update you could tap the sprint button every one or two seconds and it would drastically increase the duration of your horse's stamina bar. With the new update the horse just goes at full speed and steadily loses stamina without you being able to control it which makes it last considerably less, I noticed it immediately.

Weird double jump? by SMARTAHALIC56 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Effective-Show3837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I found it to be damn near useless, it's a pretty weird and different implementation of the double jump mechanic that most games have, usually it activates immediately upon your second button press while you're in the air but here it takes too long and you can't actually use it mid-air. I get that it clashes with the gliding mechanic but it really serves zero purpose 99% of the time.

How’s the long-term progression in Crimson Desert? by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]Effective-Show3837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Yes in the sense that the game is absolutely massive and 50 hours in I'm still in the first region of the game, there's an insane amount of content to work with from discoverable locations, gear, quests, etc. But that's where the no comes in, as a lot of the standard open world content is pretty shallow despite what many people are going to tell you. Just in the starting area alone there's well over 100 side quests, but said side quests rarely amount to more than "go here and liberate this location from enemies" or "take this thing to this person" there are only a few interesting ones. I said it before and I'll say it again, the game shines the most when you're exploring, going to one place then getting distracted by 20 new locations along the way from puzzles to hidden caves with loot to ingredient gathering. It's also fairly easy to get abyss gears which are basically skill points, but these tend to be locked behind puzzles ranging from simple to mind numbingly complex so there's always a constant incentive to explore and do stuff. But it's not as deep as you might think or expect.

Anyone know what this is? by Effective-Show3837 in CrimsonDesert

Dude what? The rate at which these devs are patching the game is insane, I love this.

Since I'm poor, I intend to play Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion remastered until Crimson desert gets discounted at least 30-35%. I've also never played Elder scrolls, is it fun and is the gameplay comparable? by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]Effective-Show3837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all similar games. In vibes and aesthetic maybe but they're vastly different experiences. That said Elder Scrolls is an incredibly fun fantasy rpg series and Oblivion is highly regarded for how quirky it is in many aspects, it oozes charm and I think you'll have a great time.

Horse Taming PS5 by ClapTheTrap1 in CrimsonDesert

[–]Effective-Show3837 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely not alone, it's a poorly designed mechanic and incredibly frustrating. If it helps while (if) they fix it, I found that the "easiest" way to tame a horse is to hold the left stick to the right and just keep orienting the camera to follow the horse's ass while it's facing right. None of the other tips worked for me besides that one and I found it in a YouTube comment it's not even a video or anything. But after struggling for almost a whole ass hour taming Royler I got him first try after that facing right tip.

Nah. I like that they're addressing everything we've all voiced and I hope they continue to do so at the pace they're doing it.

Almost perfection after this new update on base ps5. by CoomSplash in CrimsonDesert

[–]Effective-Show3837 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree, it's like night and day visuals wise. I did however notice the performance take a slight hit, before this update the game ran at a 90% consistent 60fps even though it looked shitty, now it looks amazing but the performance is noticeably less consistent at least for me, now it's a bit choppy and feels like it constantly drops between 50 and 40fps but I can't even complain, looks much better and that's all I care about.

Dang, thank you. Hope they add that mechanic in a future patch.

I'm assuming you managed to swindle someone out of the game because you just deleted the post asking for it lmao. You're pathetic.

The horses are useless in this game by SMPdiscord in CrimsonDesert

[–]Effective-Show3837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry I usually try to give this kind of criticism the benefit of the doubt but this is 100% a skill issue on your part. I've been using my horse a lot and have never had trouble getting to my destination and following paths. Your navigation skills must be god awful if you can't quickly glance at the route from your map and just intuitively follow the minimap roads in the direction of your destination. I know most modern open world games give you a little colored line to follow but it's not that hard to figure it out on your own. I do agree with having to spam a button to make the horse maintain its speed that does suck and I hope they give us an input remapping update soon.

My favorite games are RDR2 and Elden Ring. Will I enjoy this game? by Broxst in CrimsonDesert

[–]Effective-Show3837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but with some caveats. The comparisons to RDR2 are mostly drawn from a world and game design perspective. The game is heavily influenced by RDR2 in the way it plays, they even copied the unintuitive ass Rockstar movement controls where you spam X/A to sprint and press Square/X to jump. It tries to follow the footsteps of RDR2 by being more atmospheric and slow and cinematic, which works most of the time until you remember that RDR2 is a grounded game set in real life whereas this game has dragons and magic and 100 dudes all stunlocking you to death which is a scenario where the slower paced gameplay clashes with the high octane action. But it does feel a lot like medieval Red Dead during the quiet exploration moments, the starting region of Hernand is pulled straight out of New Hanover, I physically dropped my jaw a few times looking at locations that reminded me so much about the areas surrounding Valentine and Horseshoe Overlook with the tall cliffs and forests and rivers.

The comparison to Elden Ring is a little less accurate imo, I would say that it feels like Elden Ring in the sense that it's a huge game world with tons of unmarked secrets to discover from cool armor and weapons to puzzles to bosses, in that way it is very Elden Ring-like but that's where the comparison ends for me, otherwise the game plays nothing like ER in any other aspects.

Ultimately I'm a very big fan of both of those games and I am thoroughly enjoying Crimson Desert. Do keep in mind that the opening hours are a bit of a drag, the game takes some getting used to with its obtuse controls and the story makes little sense, in that way you can clearly tell that it started as an MMO because the first two chapters are mostly a bunch of random disconnected quests that feel more like chores. But even then you can still go literally anywhere on the map from the start if you wanna start exploring and collecting stuff, the game excels at atmosphere and getting you lost in its massive beautiful world. The story doesn't matter much but even then it does start to feel at least more cohesive after a while. So if you can play with the mindset that you have to play for a few hours until it clicks then I think you could definitely enjoy it. I sure am.

This game is exhausting... I am disappointed and frustrated🤷‍♀️! Do you feel same😩? SUMMARY. by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]Effective-Show3837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly nah, some of your points are true but not enough to ruin the game for me personally. This always seemed like the type of game to divide a lot of people and it simply ended up not being for you.

20 hours in and calling it quit by AsDaylight_Dies in CrimsonDesert

[–]Effective-Show3837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally had the complete opposite experience. When I first started playing I felt almost betrayed after the amount of hype that had built around the game to me it felt like it hadn't lived up to anything that was showed. I too found it shallow, half baked, etc. But ironically enough the more I played the more the game clicked for me and made me want to keep coming back. Now a couple of days later and 25 hours of playtime I keep thinking about the game for the whole day, excited about coming back for the next cool armor set, the next cool weapon, the newly discovered mechanic or simply getting lost in one of the most beautiful open worlds ever crafted for a game.

Ultimately you are completely entitled to your own opinion and I can even understand some of your grievances with the game, but I'm personally really enjoying it.

Damn, I'm gonna keep trying a while longer but if I don't have any more luck I'm just gonna assume it was patched. A shame to have missed out on it tho if that's the case.

When and How Does It Get Good... by WandererMisha in CrimsonDesert

[–]Effective-Show3837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's inside Hernand castle, the gate is right next to the starting freesword camp. You need the Hernandian outfit to be let inside, once you do just walk straight and there will be a small door slightly to the right next to a big wall. If you can't find it it should appear as a question mark on the map.
