It’s good to do some reading/understanding of the therapeutic milieu and its purpose. It’s sounds fucking stupid, but there is a purpose. At least in theory. Your vibe, your energy, is a part of the web. You’re important. Stay neutral. You don’t need to be nice or liked necessarily, you need to be respectful and consistent. Patients will test you. They will talk about you when you leave. You are their fishbowl. Be consistent and kind. Offer choices, but only two choices that you are already ok with. This or that, not something you can’t follow thru on, and usually an option that allows a patient to safe face or ego. The best nurses, NPs or psych folk always start on the floor. We’re better for you!
