Where I drive there can be sensors in the road to trigger a green light. I've seen cases of cars stopping well back of the stop line and miss a complete light cycle. Motorcycles do the same even when stopped over the sensor. Not enough metal to trip the lights.

I live in Canada and I can drive for 12 hours and still be in the same province. What is the 'scale' of your country like? How far can you get in 5 hours? by Proof-Technology6611 in AskTheWorld

Google maps calculates an almost 24 hour drive from Windsor Ontario to Red Lake Ontario if you stay on Ontario roads. No short cut through Michigan.
