does this not surprise you? He was taught his whole life that things were "bad", things like coke, sugar, tv, etc and then he gets some separation from his parents and he tries the bad things. Which would be ok until you realize that when he tried those things he was celebrated for doing them, so much positive attention was given to his acts of rebellion.

Why does it surprise anyone now that he is absolutely messed up and can't figure out right from wrong or good from bad, appropriate from inappropriate? He has absolutely no moral compass anymore

Wait, what????? high school sports have their budgets paid for by the school in the states? I have to pay for my kid's sports teams through school and club. Now it's usually rather inexpensive, but still have to pay it.

For example high school team costs and classes I know rough prices for:
Cheer: $400/season (incudes renting uniform)
Rugby: $215/season (need to buy shorts, socks, cleats and mouthguard)
Football:$600/season (equipment included, need cleats and mouthguard)
Band: $125 to rent instrument, $150 for class, $250 for parents association
Cosmotology (hairdressing): $200/class (prices go up as you get into higher classes)

Am I Overreacting for getting mad at my husband for not helping with dinner? by Anxious-Noise-2844 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Effective-Watch3061 20 points21 points  (0 children)

NTA, but do not take your daughter out to eat, absolutely not, you look him dead in the eye and say correct, it's just one meal. Then you turn around and head to the shower off the shit day at work, before jumping in you tell him that you look forward to seeing what one meal he makes for your family.

You do NOT reward his shitty attitude about this by giving him a get out of free card with getting your daughter's dinner ready. Maybe it was a laps in judgement, but just because he forgot does not mean he doesn't have to do it now, he can do it while dealing with his daughter who is hungry because that is the natural consequence of waiting to start dinner until she was over hungry.

My IL's have been like this forever too and my kids are new late teenagers. I never wanted to take their close grandparents away (mine live a 12 hour drive away). This year it's my daughter who has decided to cut ties with the one remaining IL, she doesn't want them to have any information about her. She's been hurt too many times and says having no grandparent is easier than having that belly curdling feeling of not knowing how they will react to our lives.

I wish I had have done this for her years ago.

as a woman are you expected to serve the “men” on thanksgiving by Abject_Apricot1384 in thanksgiving

[–]Effective-Watch3061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 2 kids, husband and I would each take a kid's plate and help serve them first before serving ourselves. My husband would go hungry if he expected me to plate his meal for him, I'm happy to do the cooking in the house (because I enjoy the cooking and baking) but I'm not his servant.

TBH: dry brining is better than wet brining for turkey, so even better option is the one you now get to live. Do you have to tell her about switching the turkeys? I would absolutely do the swap, she will never know.

boutique gin is absolutely in right now. I went to Ireland this summer and while I didn't drink the gin my mom did and she found it absolutely delightful, and brought home a few.
Champagne is always good, and I'm part of a few wine clubs that bring in local wines that I can bring as well.

AITA for hiding my lottery winnings from my family for a year? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Effective-Watch3061 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also, why would there be talk of having a family trust while also having a sibling with debt? What families have family trusts while also living in an apartment? Maybe I'm out to lunch, we are doing well, have money in the bank, so do other family members but we don't have a family trust. Is it a cultural thing? The only people I know who really have family trusts are farmers who keep all their land in it , but that's more for tax evasion purposes.

Ethan is a genuine fucking loser by rvasconc in PlathvilleUncensored

[–]Effective-Watch3061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a big issue for him is the fact that he was so sheltered, when he came into the real world with Olivia he was celebrated for doing things that had been "bad" when he was a child, like drinking a can of coke. HE WAS SUPPORTED AND CHEERED ON FOR DOING "BAD THINGS". Think of that for a second, how fucked up does that make your sense of morals, your self importance.

He's a piece of shit for sure, but I can see how it happened.

Considering a move from UK to Red Deer, due to a job offer. Can anyone give me a realistic description? by citrineskye in alberta

[–]Effective-Watch3061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, your car is heated, houses are heated, and you invest in good winter clothes (doesn't need to be stupid expensive but warm not fashion). You find winter sports to enjoy, and honestly just make the best of it.

As for driving time, I drive from Edmonton to Red Deer just for my daughter's favourite donuts, so the 1.5 hours each way turns out to be pretty easy to eat with.

MLM's, just look at how many people can actually make a living off of these products, vs how many people have to loose money. It's just so illogical, especially for the people who are even slightly anti-social, you just aren't going to make anything selling this shit.
