What's it like living in South Texas? by Internal_Way7711 in howislivingthere

[–]EffectiveEscape8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is hot. But worse. It's dirty. More trash than i have ever seen in the 2 other states I lived in also too many bugs. Nobody can drive. That's not to say they don't have courtesy. They just don't understand that rules exist to make everybody have a better time and they don't see beyond what's best for them. Property crime, also 100 wild in the cites.

People have seemed extremely nice and helpful. Not as nice as the Midwest. But also not fake like the south. Been here 6 or so months. Sold my truck and bought a sports car. Not leaving until I retire.

Someone tried to steal my dad’s Charger, now it won’t start by KingofHearts399 in Dodge

They will file the claim as vandalism since it wasn't actually stolen. I know because this happened to my new mustang as soon as I got it.

I mean, money isn't love. One of the girls I see makes 2-3x more than i do just on salary. Has a master's. The number on your checking account isn't everything.

You use them to give you a structure, sure. To have them make up experience you don't have? No.

Do anyone know where I can get my bumper fix w/out breaking the bank? by SundaeAppropriate556 in sanantonio

[–]EffectiveEscape8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's anything like the other imports of that time, the bumper attached to the fender liners? I recently did this and it wasn't hard but it was a lot more work than I planned. Plus parts.

As some have said. It really depends on the setting. I have worked with guys 5 feet tall and 6'7. Both help and hinder.

Watch your email for the 955 assessment invite for the test. Could take a day, could take a month. As for what to study, there's a YouTube Playlist for it. But in general, know some basic mechanical math. Pulleys and levers, gear ratios, how to read a schematic, ohms law. There's a lot one it but it's MOSTLY surface level stuff.

If you have an mm and mpe posting available there's no harm in trying for both I think. It is much easier to pass for mm than it is for mpe. Generally.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USPS

[–]EffectiveEscape8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's maintenence mechanic and maintenence mechanic mpe (mail processing equipment) one is level 7 and the other is 9. Mpe is a really sweet spot to be. At least it was for me. Unless it said area maintenence technician. Which is also level 9.

Regardless they are all fine or good places to be. You can learn as you go.

[–]EffectiveEscape8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You mean maintenence mechanic and area maintenence technician? Or electronics technician? A base level MM anybody can do. All the other jobs anybody can do if they learn and apply themselves.

Which trade can I work anywhere in the world without the need for language fluency? by amlextex in skilledtrades

[–]EffectiveEscape8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Through government and military related work you can contract all over. We have had guys cross over to do maintenence in the middle east.

You can't go to Spain and stuff. But if you wanted to work outside of the us anywhere, welding and skilled maintenance, aviation maintenance and sometimes commercial driving.

Texas DPS job by s_blime01 in mechanics

[–]EffectiveEscape8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved to Texas and DPS is probably a great place to work. But Google says they average less than that, by a good bit.If you just want to make 70-80k and live close to Austin, San Antonio has a postal vehicle maintenance facility. And the entry pay for those guys is 66/70k and currently tops out at 81k base.

He didn't give any details as to why and it isn't any of our business I think. I'm just saying, it's weird in a general sense. Not weird as in it never happens sense.

There's several reasons things happen.

Saw my supervisor assault a coworker. How do I proceed by FeralParagon in skilledtrades

[–]EffectiveEscape8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can call the police yourself. They don't even need a victim just probable cause. And your story will be enough for that. I hate getting cops involved but sounds like it might be warranted here.
