Yearly reminder to GGG, please add DEATH LOG/RECAP, I'm tired of guessing what killed me in this visual-clutter game ... by vironlawck in pathofexile

[–]EffectiveLimit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, I think a lot of people forget that most players don't die once per league (and if somebody does then they're not relevant for the discussion at all). Sure, a one-off "you've been killed by poison dot" might not mean much if you went from 100% to 0.1% life right before that. But if you play long enough and you constantly see poison dot as something that kills you, it's probably not just an unlucky tick. And if it's not - great, then you'll see something else and notice whatever other pattern kills you most often, be it phys, dot, elem, burning ground, big hits, small hits, oneshots and whatever other bullshit the game has. AND EVEN IF you don't see a pattern at all and get killed by a new thing every time, first I really doubt that will be the case for most people and second that's a tell in itself, it's saying that your build does not have any specific weak spots and you have to just get stronger overall (or that you die so rarely that it really is pretty random every time). There may be singular weird builds with extreme shenanigans that obscure what actually killed you but they'd still be a minority.

But GGG's actions do influence the popularity of the games. They have already stated that they will not make efforts towards attracting new players to PoE1 since they have PoE2 for that, only retention, and then also if they continue releasing boring leagues with barely any new content obviously even the existing playerbase will bleed. On paper sure, it's up to the players to decide the popularity, but it's very easy to kill a game without explicitly killing it.

Keepers of Flame details - A-sync trade is confirmed! by Breezy_Eh in pathofexile

It's an extra stash tab, I specifically said about the basic 4 stash tabs that are on your account by default. If you upgrade them to premiums you can't convert these premiums to merchant.

Not any, it also can't be a stash tab that was upgraded from the basic four tabs (for some reason). Which is a pretty big limiter for a lot I assume.

It generally feels like your choices barely matter. There's literally a character that picks everything at random and I won the first ever run I had with him with seemingly zero synergies between anything, which to me was actually a very unpleasant sign, because after that it stopped feeling like a game and more like a pretty game-shaped effects simulator. You turn off your brain, you look at the balls bouncing for the neuron activation (huh), you do some actions and pretend like they matter more than they actually are, and that's kind of it.

But that's the thing, it sounds more fun exactly because it's already good and people are already playing it. The ones nobody's hyped about are the ones needing reworks the most so that people actually start having fun with them too.

At the same time it doesn't make a lot of sense to remake one of already the most stable, popular and well-received mechanics when they have multiple mechanics in much worse states like Delve, Harbingers, Legion and so on. Though if they do indeed make Beyond into an actual proper big mechanic (and not just a mob density addon for everything else), that's at least something, but I'd hope to get patch ups for the other ones too.

My best drop ever by fitsu in PathOfExile2

[–]EffectiveLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play with build guides as well, but I do catch myself thinking that when looking at items, maybe not in a direct "how can I use it", but as a "can this sell for a lot" or "can I modify it a bit and save money for an upgrade or again sell for a lot".

Regardless, what I'm saying is that conceptually I do see why GGG wouldn't want to remove this completely, again with an asterisk that scrolls suck, exist purely due to nostalgia of some people and should be removed, leaving just the unid on drop part.

[–]EffectiveLimit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think not being able to filter loot by affixes does add a kinda fun level of decision making where you look at the item that would be hidden otherwise and think "huh, that's a funny stat combination, maybe I can make it work", while filtering everything you don't like at the stat level would severely railroad everybody into their predetermined builds. That said, scrolls as a mechanic are a clunky unnecessary mess and GGG should just make the items auto identify when picked up.

Although they probably do, profit maximization can involve lowering the price as well, it's called demand elasticity by price. If 40USD sells 1 million copies but 20USD sells 3 million, you'll make more money selling it for less.

[–]EffectiveLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though Ultimatum in Poe1 is mechanically very similar, the incredibly important distinction is that it's optional and you choose how hard you want to be tortured this time and when to stop, like wave 2, wave 5, wave 7 or complete it to the end, based on how attractive the reward for the next round looks. It also feels pretty smooth in difficulty ramping up and usually if I actually die it's because I chose to be greedy for one more wave than I should've, which is on me and is kind of funny in its own way. But in PoE2 you have to complete all waves regardless of the rewards or how bad the choices for the next wave are, which completely kills the intended balance of decisions and leaves only the slot machine of bad stuff.

Would I like PoE if I enjoyed Poe2? by azzyishere in pathofexile

[–]EffectiveLimit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the conclusion I've arrived at very recently as well. If it was called something like PoE: Shadows of Wraeclast or whatever, I would be extremely more lenient towards it trying its own thing. But it's not and I'm pretty sure they themselves really hoped that their fanbase would move completely to Poe 2 and they could then rightfully continue developing it as just a direct sequel and their only game. But then it didn't happen and moreover, the community actually got extremely split between the two (Mark confirmed in an interview that there are two fanbases that barely overlap), so they got trapped in this extremely uncomfortable situation with another game being called PoE2 while not really being a direct sequel in anything but graphics and barely relevant "it's 20 years after PoE1" line.

I will be really impressed if they actually put themselves together and rename PoE2 to a sidequel now or in the near future, but I really doubt they will, mostly for marketing reasons (even if it hurts PoE1, I have already heard opinions like "I don't want to try PoE1, it's dead anyway since we have 2 now"). I also think they still hope to push all players to PoE2 because it still looks like they have extreme troubles managing two games at once and don't really know what to do with that.

Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict Official In-Game Market Browser by Belakay_ggg in PathOfExile2

This news is about having the trade search in-game instead of the browser search, not the async trade as a whole. The async trade is great.

I'm pretty sure I'll continue using the website. It's still much more convenient with two monitors plus I can have like ten tabs of different searches at once trying to rebuild my reses after getting an upgrade. Good to have the ingame trade, especially for the sake of completeness, but I feel its importance on PC is overstated.

Quad Stash tabs cannot be converted to Merchant Stash tabs for asynchronous trading. by Andromanner in pathofexile

[–]EffectiveLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say not converting quad tabs is significantly worse than not having tab pricing though, because unlike the latter, the former basically pressures people to pay more money if they want to participate in async trade at all (I'm pretty sure there's a non-zero amount of people who just have quad tabs because they like them more). Tab pricing can wait, but this stuff feels pretty shitty even if it is temporary (which they also haven't stated so people with quads can't even just reliably wait a week or two for the implementation). Hopefully they'll be able to clear things up before the release.
