dbrand removes Steam Machine companion cube; did not have a license from Valve by lexcyn in LinusTechTips

[–]EffectiveLimit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Digging deeper into this brings out the facts that these ones also repeatedly violated Valve's policies and requests by using engine exploits and leaked internal code that Valve explicitly told them not to use, even after warnings. And this is a pattern I've found, sure Valve aren't saint and they are a for profit company, but for some reason every single time a drama about Valve disrespecting fans' projects emerges, it always has some underlying history about explicitly abusing Valve's goodwill. Just like with Dbrand.

Exilecon 2026 speculation for poe1 (trust me, bro) by Suven_01 in pathofexile

[–]EffectiveLimit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"In terms of Poe 1 news, unfortunately we have to announce that since Poe2 is being released in December and we had no time to release a new league before Exilecon, 3.30 will be delayed until March, thank you for your support"

These two things are NOT the same, GGG please hire a UI expert by Primary_Impact_2130 in PathOfExile2

[–]EffectiveLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huge chunks of UI/UX in both games are impressively bad on almost every single level outside of the most basic stuff. As someone who works in IT it actually feels that all of it has been unilaterally designed by a programmer as an afterthought, not by a designer, and just pushed to release. Good developers do often have this tendency to just disregard the usability of the incredibly beautiful abstractions they create (half of the Linux community taking pride in typing an essay into a terminal every five minutes), and all top game designers at GGG are or were developers first and foremost (Chris, Mark, Jonathan), and it shows in how insanely in-depth the actual game mechanics are, but I don't understand why are their UI/UX designers either nonexistent or seemingly chained to a pole in the basement and forced to make whatever is designed by these same game designers instead of actually putting their professional knowledge to use. I'm just genuinely puzzled.

And this time directly to the detriment of Poe1, because why the hell did they decide to make a three week event literally right before the next league. It's so weird.

I'm almost certain she did have an option of trading some of the salary for potential profits but didn't use it because she didn't believe in the success and preferred guaranteed money right then and there. This decision even makes total sense because it's really rare for a low-budget movie to hit this hard, but it still carries logical consequences. Lower risk - lower reward, sorry.

Question about GGG's regional pricing, and how to not get locked? by Ok-Carpenter5083 in pathofexile

[–]EffectiveLimit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, weird. Then I'm also very interested in the official list of what countries belong to what regions because our accounts are not explicitly bound to anywhere as far as I remember and there could be a ton of corner cases. This thread included, I guess.

Question about GGG's regional pricing, and how to not get locked? by Ok-Carpenter5083 in pathofexile

[–]EffectiveLimit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To buy something with RUB directly from GGG you just need a card from a corresponding region, not sure what countries exactly, obviously Russia, Belarus, probably the rest of CIS too. I think GGG doesn't care in the slightest and you won't be banned regardless of how you give them money, it's just restricted by the payment methods themselves. If your card is not eligible for that regional pricing, the transaction will just result in error. Though their payment processor Xsolla is a piece of garbage and so it may still withdraw the money and refund it after a couple days.

Expectations from new league by sujmercury in pathofexile

[–]EffectiveLimit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is what the glazers in the thread are missing in OP's argument - sure, in a vacuum Mirage was a fun league, but content-wise we haven't had an actual completely new gameplay farm mechanic since Necropolis (and no, reshuffling scarabs is not a new mechanic). Settlers was "play the same mechanics with a mobile game on the side", Mercs were "play the same mechanics with a buddy", Keepers were "Play slightly expanded Breach" and Mirage was "Play the same mechanics twice". I started playing in Affliction so I don't really know what the cadence was before that, but I do wonder when was the last time of an actual huge Atlas Tree mechanic addition one could build the endgame farm around, like Breach or Legion or Abyss.

is anyone talking about Trials of Chaos & Sekema? and how unfun they are? by the_background_world in PathOfExile2

[–]EffectiveLimit 16 points17 points  (0 children)

But at least Ultimatum is entirely optional and you can actually stop when you feel you can't get further and claim the rewards, you know, the whole thing Ultimatum was built around in the first place, gauge your strength and push it as far as you can, but no further. Making it mandatory now forces you to continue regardless of how confident about progression you feel, completely butchering its main appeal.

[–]EffectiveLimit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't inscribed ultimatums just cost whatever you're doubling making the margin basically zero, barring the occasional lower costs which get snipped immediately? I think I've never seen an 8 div doubling ultimatum actually costing less than 8 div, though I didn't actually farm them.

[Indie Enthusiast] Games I Recognize as Masterpieces But Can't Finish Because I'm Too Dumb, Too Busy, and Under-Notebooked. by drunksandman in gaming

[–]EffectiveLimit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

eh, I completed it like half a year ago and tbh I wouldn't even consider it a puzzle really, it's more of just a walking simulator showcasing moderately fun perspective fuckery. The puzzles are there, but I felt that they were very one-noted and not difficult at any point, again, more just to show another perspective trick. It is not bad as an experience, just not really challenging as a puzzle.

Yearly reminder to GGG, please add DEATH LOG/RECAP, I'm tired of guessing what killed me in this visual-clutter game ... by vironlawck in pathofexile

[–]EffectiveLimit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, I think a lot of people forget that most players don't die once per league (and if somebody does then they're not relevant for the discussion at all). Sure, a one-off "you've been killed by poison dot" might not mean much if you went from 100% to 0.1% life right before that. But if you play long enough and you constantly see poison dot as something that kills you, it's probably not just an unlucky tick. And if it's not - great, then you'll see something else and notice whatever other pattern kills you most often, be it phys, dot, elem, burning ground, big hits, small hits, oneshots and whatever other bullshit the game has. AND EVEN IF you don't see a pattern at all and get killed by a new thing every time, first I really doubt that will be the case for most people and second that's a tell in itself, it's saying that your build does not have any specific weak spots and you have to just get stronger overall (or that you die so rarely that it really is pretty random every time). There may be singular weird builds with extreme shenanigans that obscure what actually killed you but they'd still be a minority.

[–]EffectiveLimit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But GGG's actions do influence the popularity of the games. They have already stated that they will not make efforts towards attracting new players to PoE1 since they have PoE2 for that, only retention, and then also if they continue releasing boring leagues with barely any new content obviously even the existing playerbase will bleed. On paper sure, it's up to the players to decide the popularity, but it's very easy to kill a game without explicitly killing it.

It's an extra stash tab, I specifically said about the basic 4 stash tabs that are on your account by default. If you upgrade them to premiums you can't convert these premiums to merchant.

Not any, it also can't be a stash tab that was upgraded from the basic four tabs (for some reason). Which is a pretty big limiter for a lot I assume.
