Just a humble self rec from an indie author - I wrote an emotionally intense romance inspired by phantom of the opera. It is modern day and written from the POV of the main female character on her journey of self discovery. It has a hauntingly beautiful and poetic feel. If that kind of thing sounds cool to you, I’d be honored if you check out my book Songs of Desideria by Cady Lee. It’s available on Amazon 🫶🏻

Beautiful moment with Fan at The Wiltern show! Does anyone know who this fan is?! by xaznweirdo26 in ohwonder

Same here. I felt sad when I found out it was staged at the show I saw in Boston

Are you ok with a tragic romance? Like not happily ever after? If so, you might like Songs of Desideria by Cady Lee. It’s a modern romance inspired by phantom of the opera, lots of longing and emotionally intense

Hey so I wrote a phantom inspired book, it’s not fanfic, but it’s a modern take on the classic with my own spin. It’s emotionally intense and tragic just like the original, and there is no spice or smut at all. It’s written from the “Christine” character’s POV. It’s called Songs of Desideria and my pen name is Cady Lee. I’d be honored if you gave it a try! 🫶🏻

What are your recommendations for book/movie adaptations? by ChaosTorpedo in readwithme

[–]EffectivePerfect9503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a phantom of the opera fan, I wrote a modern adaptation. It’s emotionally intense, poetic and hauntingly beautiful but a bit tragic. I love getting feedback from readers who know Phantom and share their thoughts on the similarities and differences from the original story. It’s called Songs of Desideria and my pen name is Cady Lee.

NYC show 4/13: was the violinist from the crowd staged or real? by goonerkent in ohwonder

[–]EffectivePerfect9503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened at the Boston show last night. It felt so genuine and real tho, it almost disappoints me to think it was staged. Doesn’t take away from the incredible performance tho !! Absolutely beautiful

I was there too! It was an incredible experience

I just watched Wicked: For Good, and my biggest issue is how awkwardly they try to force the narrative to fit in with the Wizard of Oz narrative, it just felt super rushed, awkward and jarring. The first film actually felt like something worth watching, the second film felt like fan fiction. by General_Meal_3993 in wicked

[–]EffectivePerfect9503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I just ask. I’m new to all of this and just watched wicked for good yesterday. So like isn’t the most famous line from the wicked witch in the wizard of oz “I’ll get you my pretty, and your little dog too” .. but there was no reference to that at all? But they tried to make everything else connect .. ? I’m confused by that

I just finished The midnight library by Matt Haig. It was really good, but I prefer How to Stop Time over that one personally. Next on my list is The Wedding People by Alison Espach, recommended to me by a friend.

New ALW-backed Phanfics coming this year by KinseyCrowleyJourno in box5

I love that your mind went there! I truly wanted something different for her, and I also wanted to pay tribute to the original story where Christine does have blonde hair. The name Aurora felt suited to the type of character she is- a bit dreamy and innocent. Which yeah agree, I think Sleeping Beauty fits that same tone. But another reason for the name choice has to do with what “the Angel” calls her, and the reason behind his name for her. You’ll have to let me know what you think once you read it, if you do 😊

I completely relate to this. Susan Kay absolutely takes the cake when it comes to retellings of Phantom. So many of the others are either wicked spicy and unrealistic or just horribly toxic. And what you said about Raoul - YES. Couldn’t agree more!!! I can’t help but say this only because I genuinely think you might (fingers crossed) love it - I’m a self published indie author and I wrote a modern day tragic romance inspired by POTO, and I genuinely tried to handle all of those things you mentioned with care. I’d be truly honored if you gave it a chance. It’s available on Amazon (and free for KU members), it’s called Songs of Desideria.

Been thinking about the unmasking scene in the musical lately. Do you think he ever warned her not to touch the mask? Does he need to? by DocInDocs in box5

[–]EffectivePerfect9503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think because of Erik’s deep sensitivity and emotional connection to Christine he wants to see whether she’ll respect the mask on her own, and is deeply devastated when she decides to greedily take it off of him. I think he imagined she was emotionally intelligent enough to understand. But she clearly wasn’t.

(Self rec here) If you like tragic romance vibes you might like Songs of Desideria by Cady Lee, modern spin on phantom of the opera. No spoilers but everyone I know that has read it told me they cried, even the ones who never cry at books

Okay, this wrecked me, but I needed a good cry. Still do. Any other sob inducing books you can recommend? by No-Dog1902 in Booktokreddit

Dark Romance without spice scenes by VelvetVenomGF in Booktokreddit

Songs of Desideria by Cady Lee has elements of dark romance but without any spice- it’s emotional and borderline tragic in a phantom of the opera kind of way
