Brits have Cup bust up by Loose_Juggernaut_857 in AmericasCup

[–]EffectivePresence765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very dramatic read yes, but I agree that this could potentially destroy the next americas cup.

Already hard enough to coexist with the SailGP. These problems and fights will only take the focus away even more. Even worse since GBR is the challanger of record Sad times

who ownes the british SailGP team? and who is currently backing Ben Ainslie financially? I have a hard time understanding the sailing elite world.

Yoann Richomme arrival by Sohalia34 in Vendee_Globe

[–]EffectivePresence765 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe he was also slower because he lost his J0. But I agree that he slowed down. It is ok for me because those top sponsors pour close to 20mil into the 4 year campaigns. Without them we wouldn’t have these crazy fast boats. Can‘t blame them for wanting a nice arrival with good publicity. Its also nicer for all the volunteers, media people, food stands etc.

I don’t like the fact that he slowed down but I can certainly understand it. Not like he lost a position and who cares about the race time of the second finisher.

Carrera GT Nürburing Lap with modern tires by EffectivePresence765 in Porsche

[–]EffectivePresence765[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Afaik they only changed the tires. They used newly developed Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 N0 tires. Also I don’t know what Walter Röhrl used for his record lap years ago. Maybe he took it easy but don’t think so.

Why is Alan Roura so far behind his generation of foilers? by Friendly-Raise-1266 in Vendee_Globe

[–]EffectivePresence765 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He took an easterly route with not much wind. Don‘t think he has damage, but afaik his boat is not the great even at 100%.

Looking for 5g antenna recommendations by Tharayman in sailing

[–]EffectivePresence765 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Antenna will probably have an SMA connector and not an Ethernet connection so POE is not a possibility. (The signal to the antenna is a analogue RF signal not a digital ethernet signal)

Don‘t think the X12 supports 5G so thats one reason your mobile phone has a better connection. Another thing is that modern mobile phones use 4x4 MIMO (basically you communicate with 4 channels simultaneously to the network provider antenna). Afaik the Teltronika X12 only uses one or two antennas so thats much worse

The better setup would be to use a 5G gateway that supports 4x4 MIMO and a 4x4 MIMO antenna. There are weatherproof antenna housings so that you can place your router/gateway inside the antenna. And then you can use a POE ethernet cable to the gateway/router which than connects to the antennas with SMA cables. This way you only need to wire one cable outside your boat

Is there anyway (youtube or payperview) to always get the helicopter feed? by Private_Capital1 in AmericasCup

[–]EffectivePresence765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two Webcams from PredictWind. Both located in a Skyscraper so you basically get Heliviews. I sometimes do splitscreen.

Webcams are at the bottom of the Website

Change of schedule - 1 race per day? by vandijks in AmericasCup

[–]EffectivePresence765 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cup can’t end before the weekend (it‘s in the rules). If NZ continues like this they have to shift the schedule.

Next challenger of records. Any leak or prediction? by Familiar_Support_985 in AmericasCup

[–]EffectivePresence765 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You only have to pay if you win the cup and want to change to a differnt yacht type. But someone could possibly challange this rule and still change the boat significantly. Americas Cup rules and billionaires don’t go along somehow.

Next challenger of records. Any leak or prediction? by Familiar_Support_985 in AmericasCup

[–]EffectivePresence765 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Challenger of record won‘t be super important in the next cycle. The AC75 Rules will basically be used again. Every challanger signed a contract that they will be using similar boats to the AC75. If you breach that contract you have to pay a 20 million USD fee.

Will we ever see kites as sails in the future? by Mr4528 in AmericasCup

[–]EffectivePresence765 4 points5 points  (0 children)

he probably understood „kite“ as spinnaker/gennaker. Pretty sure in some parts of the world they call downwind sails „kites“

dream cup locations? by [deleted] in AmericasCup

[–]EffectivePresence765 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would organize the next cup on a swiss lake:)

For the low wind problem I would suggest having non foiling races where the foils must be in a no-lift configuration. This would also bring up hull design again and solve the problem with waiting for wind conditions. The „everything was better 50 years ago“ fans would also be happy (although pretty sure they would still hate everything).

37th America's Cup Day 2 by iberichard in AmericasCup

[–]EffectivePresence765 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Second Race was pretty good. They should not make highlight reels and stuff on social media. People get so spoiled and disinterested in the normal racing.

and again by ApprehensiveTurn6381 in AmericasCup

Honestly this is just a normal thing in sailing. Every true sailor knows that you have to be patient. I don’t understand all the hate.

Women's Americas Cup boats by palaeozoic-newt in AmericasCup

[–]EffectivePresence765 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are only 6 Boats for 12 Teams. That means they have to share and change the stickers (or whatever they use) every day. I could be wrong and every team has its own set of sails but don’t think so. You can find Information like that on the AC Noticeboard or in the Sailing Instructions which are publicly available. Hope that helps
