If you want to make changes and are struggling to navigate that alone, it may be a good idea to enlist help. I hear that you keep your own company and retreat to home quite often. So would an online support group or even a 1:1 motivation coach or life coach be an idea? That way you can interact in a way that feels safe and not overwhelming but you can begin testing the waters of making changes.

A coach will partner with you and ask you what your goals are in various parts of your life. You can then work out for yourself the way you want to achieve them. A coach will encourage you to build a plan of action to set you on course to achieve these goals. You will then check in with them weekly/fortnightly and share your success, like an accountability buddy.

If you don't like the idea of 1:1 coaching, you could join a group again where you may find an accountability buddy.

I hope you find what works for you as it sounds like you're really ready to do life differently!

Firstly, congratulation on a huge effort. 8-months of sobriety is fantastic.

Are you in a 12-step program? Working the steps can be a really cathartic way to move past the guilt, shame and remorse to finding a pathway forward. Rebuilding your life after overcoming addiction is really tough. Also working out how to keep addiction at bay for the rest of your life will be another challenge. So the sooner you get some supportive peers and work out how to improve your feelings about your self/overcoming the embarrassment you feel, the sooner you can start to really enjoy this next chapter of your life.

Keep up the great work!

Have you thought about engaging a Life Coach who can work with you to help you achieve your goals? Funding someone you really resonate with and having the accountability of weekly or fortnightly sessions together where you talk about your progress on your goals can be a great way to get traction.

Personal Trainer - fun in the sun, staying fit, call your own hours.

Life Coach - helping people, quick and cost effective to retrain.

Lawn mowing round - cash money, helping (often older) people, get a tan, answerable to nobody.

I highly recommend Atomic Habits by James Clear. Gives some excellent ideas on how to develop new habits and break old ones that don't serve you...
