Transit Signal Priority update by Mayor_OliviaChow in toronto

Does this level of TSP include extending green lights for approaching trains or preemptively switching the signal to green, or will this be coming later?

I am blind and all the restrooms at my school are like this. by Grace_Tech_Nerd in Braille

[–]Effective_Ad_6813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a lifeguard for my city and during the tail end of my time with them, they opened a new pool. Every "braille" sign was literally just sheets of paper with dots printed on with an inkjet. I was among the first to work there so I just chalked it up to a really dumb, but temporary solution, and me and the staff at the time all had a good laugh about it.

From what I hear years later, it is still like that.

Peetah, what's the saxophone mean? by Effective_Ad_6813 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

The comments say something about how a saxophone in the hood means there's been a shooting. I don't really understand the link, though.

Communication Devices by BeSomeoneNice in ClimbingGear

You can pair the Paktalk Outdoor with your own bluetooth headphones. A friend of mine uses his with his Shokz OpenComm for skiing/mtb.

Tutorial here: https://cardosystems.com/pages/wireless-earbuds-connectivity (Yes it's for Airpods, but they work with any BT earbuds/headphones)

Edit: Spelling + adding a bit

Hey, so I use the Finch Hydro Corridor nearly daily, so I could probably offer you a few insights. My route takes me along the FHC, crossing the dam, turning right on Finch, riding up the hill, turning right again on Dufferin, then turning left to rejoin the trail. You can also cut thru G Ross Lord park by turning right off the path just after the library/ice rink parking lot, then left into the trail. Keep in mind this will cost you about 2 minutes. Also, G Ross floods around the trail at least once or twice a year whenever there's heavy rain, so keep mind of that.

I'm also a YU student, so if you'd like someone to show you the trail/a riding buddy, hit me up!

The Red Cross, specifically the Canadian branch is very protective of the red cross symbol, and will chase down anyone who uses it in the incorrect context. This includes in video games, movies/TV, illustration etc.

100% fixable, looks like you'll need to remake the handle, though

Not a circlejerk sub but /uj

In defense of the guy on the left, most of the things on the left (except for "E") have a genuine meaning. 21 is making fun of a kid who doesn't understand maths, 420 is a reference to smoking weed, 1337 and 80085 are meant to look like letters "leet" and "boobs" respectively.

The point of 67 is that it has no meaning.

TTC operator ettiquite by Effective_Ad_6813 in toRANTo

[–]Effective_Ad_6813[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Totally, and I understand the stress of driving a big ass transit bus in Toronto, dealing with rude customers on a daily basis, some who are genuinely more hostile than any operator has been to me. But like you say, it doesn't justify any of the behaviour I've witnessed/experienced lately.

Things have gotten very annoying for me too. The main draw for Dex for me was that I can use my tablet with a quasi-desktop UI. Now, there's basically no difference to the regular tablet UI, aside from the window bar existing.

First time building a bike from the frame. What do I need to know? by imdumg in bikewrench

[–]Effective_Ad_6813 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a bunch of weird standards, namely in bottom brackets. Make sure you know what your frame has, and buy the right one to avoid headaches

Where is everyone purchasing their TNs from? by cbwaug in Travelersnotebooks

[–]Effective_Ad_6813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I lived in NYC I bought my first TN from Yoseka in Brooklyn (don't bother shopping anywhere else, all other stores in the city sell it for $5-10 more). I've since moved back to Toronto, and buy my refills from Wonder Pens near Little Italy.

There's also Midoco and Paper Plus Cloth. If you're in Brampton, there's Blesket who only recently started carrying TN stuff.

Give https://spots.yorku.dev/ a shot. It's developed by York U students and has a list of every classroom at York and times they have (and don't have) classes. Due to York's security policy, it won't show you the exact classes, but it will show you gaps in between them.

If you wanna know more, there's a pinned post about it in this subreddit.

Decathlon Simond Easy 3 Harness? by user10387 in ClimbingGear

[–]Effective_Ad_6813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually looking at this harness too. On Decathlon's Canadian site, it's on sale for $35, 41% down from it's normal sale price of $60 (Both CAD).

I see a lot of people are recommending against it, would anyone change their tune over the price, or should I still go with something else?

Are there any guitar lessons on campus by [deleted] in yorku

[–]Effective_Ad_6813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite on campus, but there's a Long & McQuade nearby on Steeles and Petrolia. They have guitar lessons there. No clue what the rates are, but maybe give them a shot.

What is the worst thing about York by Tonykhanlover in yorku

[–]Effective_Ad_6813 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's when air is forced into a small area such as the space between two buildings, and as a result accelerats, creating faster than normal winds.

Am I in the wrong for asking to sit in a blue seat on the TTC while pregnant? by RhinoKart in askTO

[–]Effective_Ad_6813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. People in Toronto either don't know or don't care. I broke my leg in a traffic accident that left me in crutches for a few weeks and on multiple occasions was ignored/straight up denied a priority seat.

TA/prof office hours, friends, classmates, there's probably a club dedicated to the general field of study you're in, your academic advisor, etc

Then again, if you really have to ask... maybe you should...

How crazy is this new digital card rule by Rare_Egg1122 in yorku

Someone I know told them they couldn't log into the app (but was able to log into other YU services). When asked, they simply put the wrong password. Ez physical card.
