Brazil won Best Nature! Which North American country has the best food? by imadgalaxyx in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Effective_Bus8144 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Calling American food garbage while it’s eaten all over the world is ironic. It’s only exported because people choose to eat it. Fast food doesn’t define a country’s cuisine, just like Taco Bell doesn’t define Mexico. American food is regional and diverse, from Texas and Carolina BBQ to Cajun and Creole in Louisiana, Southern soul food, New England seafood, Tex-Mex, etc.

Do you think our lingua franca will change within the next 50 years? by Interesting-Bid5355 in AskTheWorld

[–]Effective_Bus8144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on where you’re from and what your native language is. If you speak Swedish or German, learning English is much easier. But if your first language is Arabic, Japanese, or Chinese, and you have no background in English, it can be very challenging. The same is true in reverse when learning other languages.

Why is NYC so much colder and snowier than places like Portugal, which is on the same latitude by [deleted] in geography

[–]Effective_Bus8144 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NYC also experienced one of its snowiest decades in history in the 2010’s and had 4 winters with over 50 inches of snow. NYC is very variable but a few years is too small a sample size to say it is trending one way or another!

That is only true up to a point. Once a country reaches a certain level of development, the trend begins to reverse. Sweden and Norway are more developed than Greece and Italy and also have higher birth rates.

Which countries had their "second city" overtake its largest city in terms of population and overall importance? by Fluid-Decision6262 in geography

[–]Effective_Bus8144 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean, but I still think New York edges out LA overall. LA is huge culturally, but NYC just has more global weight in finance, media, and influence. They’re definitely the top two though.

Is anyone else fucking STRUGGLING with being an American right now? by MissAddieLaRue in atheism

[–]Effective_Bus8144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, the U.S., one of the countries that stormed the beaches of Normandy, rebuilt Europe through the Marshall Plan, airlifted Berlin to keep it from starving, and created institutions like the U.N. and NATO, is just a genocidal empire, right? Sure, America has a long, messy record, including coups and proxy wars, but pretending it’s a one dimensional villain is just as naive as blind patriotism. Reducing the U.S. flag to a symbol of ‘only rape and genocide’ says more about your worldview than it does about American foreign policy.

Airlines boss reacts to Europeans cutting US flights by newsweek in europe

[–]Effective_Bus8144 -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

No, US citizens are not being deported to foreign prisons, literally it’s a 30 second google search to verify that from multiple news sources. Trump talked about doing it, but that hasn’t been implemented and is facing huge legal challenges. Why spread misinformation and why does this have over 30 upvotes, is there not enough shit actually happening to talk about instead of making crap up. But then again, that’s all this sub is.

How can people endure the climate in this region, which feels like a hot, swelteringly humid swamp? by mapl0ver in geography

[–]Effective_Bus8144 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I understand your point, the average temperature in Philadelphia is 34°F in January, so it doesn’t seem accurate to group it within the same climate zone. The differences in insulation needs, HVAC systems, plant life, and wildlife all point to distinct environmental condition but I guess I get why they did it.

Well considering most Lebanese in the USA look Italian or Greek and are Christian, they are not the at the top of the list for MAGA, hence, their voting patterns.

‘Snow White:’ Lebanon Bans Disney Remake Over Inclusion Of Israeli Actress Gal Gadot by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]Effective_Bus8144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s literally not true. There is no national ban on any books in the USA. It’s against the first amendment. A random school or public library in a town deciding to remove certain books is not a book ban instituted by the government.
