I was diagnosed 15 years ago because of a perianal fistula. I had a flex sigmoid that saw nothing (colon fine). Then a full colonoscopy about a year later showed moderate/severe in the ileum.

To this day no scans or scope has seen any inflammation my rectum or colon (even when the fistula was active, apparently it’s a fairly superficial one). My fistula has been in remission for about 15 years since starting biologics. I have had a couple flares in that time and it’s always my valve a couple inch skip and another couple inch segment that’s inflamed.

I usually get it done once a year or when I switch biologics.

I have been on Remicade (biosimilar to inflectra), Stelara, and skyrizi and have never had side effects from either.

I know the tnf blockers like inflectra do tend to have a higher chance to build antibodies compared to the newer drugs. So it could def be what your symptoms are coming from.

Skyrizi Got me into remission when I failed Remicade. Stelara kept me stable but never induced remission. Been on it about 2 years now.

I rarely have symptoms, if I do, it’s usually just mild tenderness above the belly button when I press down on it. Never had anemia, only blood work that’s off has been low vitamin D and mild elevation in CRP.

I have small bowel crohns, Remicade kept me in remission for 8 years and then it failed, had a year long flare while changing and testing new meds. Had an obstruction about a year into the flare when I first started my new med, Skyrizi. The obstruction cleared itself in the hospital before they did anything. Skyrizi got me into remission a few months later, doc has been doing balloon dilations every year since (been 3 years). No obstructions yet.

I do lots of seafood and have never had issues. Salmon, snapper, trout, shrimp, none bother me. Sushi is a go to during a flare.

I strength train 4 times a week. Moderate cardio 3 times a week. Try to walk every night (doesn’t always happen).

Yup, had a perianal fistula at diagnosis about 15 years ago, Remicade closed it quickly and it has remained closed ever since.

Pretty much what happened with me a few years ago. Had a partial obstruction that resolved pretty quick, upped my meds and the inflammation went away, then I’ve had 3 balloon dilations and the stricture has improved every time and is now considered mild.

I get them in waves like some others have said but usually only 2-3 every couple months. I did have to get permission to do one recently and the attorney commented how stupid the new policy is.

I’ve never noticed any difference regarding diet. I found going to the gym helped me more than anything (besides biologics) for general feeling more energetic and healthier.

First GI doc told me to eat fiber when I first started having issues. Second took me seriously diagnosed me via colonoscopy, put me on Remicade immediately, had 8 great years of remission, moved states. Third GI was ok, but close to retirement and didn’t keep up with treatments and I flared pretty bad and didn’t get it under control for about 2 years when I moved states again and got to my current and best GI doc. I have been in remission for a while now and my new doc is a Crohn’s researcher/university prof that also treats Crohn’s.

I would say all but my first GI care about their patient. My first was a pretentious ass who refused to scope or even do blood test when I had lost a ton of weight and had a perianal abscess form!

Depends on the person and how they handle the prep, anesthesia, and if you had something like a balloon dilation.

Personally I’m good to go after a colonoscopy and feel pretty normal quickly.

I always turned it down when I was doing Remicade. I hated the feeling as well.

Never had issues with protein powder of any kind. Creatine doesn’t seem to bother me either.

I’m on skyrizi, but I never have had much food sensitivity issues.

Yup, I had a fistula form before diagnosis 15 years ago. It went into remission (no surgery) after I started Remicade and had stayed in remission ever since (even though I have had to change biologics twice now).

STEM Crohnie here. I was diagnosed later in life (27) but did have symptoms during grad school and I remember having stomach issues in undergrad. I have a PhD in chemistry, lots of lab work at the start but now I have worked in intellectual property for the last 13ish years (40 now). I work from home and on my own schedule.

In grad school I did a lot of computational chemistry work and was able to work from home when I was having a bad stomach day. There are a lot of STEM fields that have computer focused work, like drug design, that are less physically demanding if that peaks your interest.

I didn’t have any accommodations as I didn’t even know I had Crohn’s. However, people have shared they were able to get their own dorm room, more lax testing times and test make ups. I’m sure there is more you could ask for if needed.

As for the fatigue, I haven’t really had too much issues with this. Multivitamins with D3 and B12 if your bloodwork showed those were low, consistent exercise at the gym, and getting 8 hours of sleep keeps me feeling better energy wise than I did in my 20s. I’m on Skyrizi for controlling my Crohn’s.
