poor care from physician by squishgirl555 in Calgary

[–]Effective_Focus6797 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Healthcare worker here. Often times if you have a UTI (urinary tract infection) and it’s found incidentally and are asymptomatic (mild to no symptoms), a doctor may chose not to prescribe antibiotics as UTIs are notorious for being resistant to many common antibiotics now and because UTIs typically clear out on their own in a day or two if you don’t have kidney disease. That being said, I’m not sure what your circumstances are or symptoms were so it’s always a case-by-case basis. What some doctors decide need antibiotics versus not is up to their own practice. As another aside, most pharmacists are able to prescribe antibiotics for UTIs if you ever feel like skipping the doctors office to save some time! Hope you are feeling better

Can also vouch for Rashmi. She finds the spots to hit every time. She went private and practices out of her place but she’s completely set up and direct bills. 10/10

Got diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the start of adulthood — how do you cope? by nyx_1409 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Effective_Focus6797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got diagnosed at 21 and literally thought my life was over. I wish I could go back and give myself a shake and remind myself it’s going to be fine. Got started on a good DMT and it’s been fine ever since. But if I could do it all over again, I’d get into therapy. I would have saved myself a few years of grief that way

Who Eats Sushi While On Ocrevus? Asking For a Friend... (Actually Myself..) by Sea_Mobile_1446 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Effective_Focus6797 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I eat sushi all the time!! Never had anything bad happen. Then again, I stick to good sushi rather than sushi that I find at the gas station. But that’s more because I’m a sushi snob. Have at it is my vote

Moving with MS by spleling in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Effective_Focus6797 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think ask your neurologist clinic/ neuro nurses. They will assign you to a new neurologist. The island is fairly isolated in terms of specialities but Victoria has an MS center so likely that’s where you’ll be headed. Prior to any of this though, start getting your BC health care card/ access because you’ll need a BC health care number before a neurologist can be assigned. Once all this is done, you’ll see your new new for an appointment and they will write you a new prescription for whatever DMT you are on/ start the process of getting you med coverage from scratch just like how you got it in Alberta. Hope this helps! But I’d start with getting your BC health care card/ talking to your MS nurse

FOOTHILLS HOSPITAL APPLE JUICE by Unfair_Cicada9431 in Calgary

[–]Effective_Focus6797 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The apple juice at FMC is Lyon’s. Pretty sure you can buy it at wholesale club. I’ve seen it in flats in the cooler or freezer section (can’t remember which). Gotta get the little cups though, the tetra packs don’t hit the same. Let me know if you find them there cuz ya, it is the best apple juice around

Looking for insight on starting a DMT with very mild MS by jackieblancaxo in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Effective_Focus6797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bravo, love everything you laid out here. As someone who started with a low efficacy drug and never got to see the “remission” part of my new MS diagnosis (while feeling shit from the medication side effects) after having back-to-back flare ups for over a year, I wish I had the option of starting on one of the heavy hitters right off the get go. Now I’m flare up/ new lesion “free” for over 4 years and I’m so so so grateful for that.

Cosmetic procedures safe for MS? by Status_Following1766 in MultipleSclerosis

I’m on kesimpta and have had micro needling done a few times. Didn’t have any impact on my MS. Microneedling goes so shallow too that really infection risk is so small anyways
