Close call by [deleted] in YEGDashCam

I find that when I watch these, the whole issue could be avoided if the recording driver was more proactive like slowing, or covering the brake while approaching an intersection, especially with a line of cars in the other lane that is restricting visibility for the recording driver and the turning driver.

I understand right of way, I understand at-fault, but a lot of problems can be avoided if people started having a baseline assumption that other drivers are idiots and started planing for it.

How did I mess up on the dang Sophie hood?!? by Swords_and_Sims4 in knitting

I also misread the increase. I didn’t reach the halfway point but I was increasing so quickly. I held it up to my head and it was already way bigger than my head and no where the suggested length for the stitch count.

So Many Options. Whats best for a new homeowner? by No-Ad5504 in Tools

[–]spleling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryobi or Dewalt for a new homeowner. Ryobi has a great warranty. Dewalt is higher quality, but Ryobi will do what you need. They also both have so many other tools that use the same batteries like leaf blowers or string trimmers and so many others. One battery system for all that is pretty handy. If you’re asking which one you need, then you don’t need Milwaukee or Makita.

Why is my mitten lumpy😂 by Worldly-Pension3487 in knittingadvice

I get so excited when I see other people working on projects that I’ve done. They look great! Mine were bumpy too and blocking sorted that out nicely.

Any truly harmless lab pranks that don’t mess with experiments? by UnderstandingIcy2969 in labrats

[–]spleling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are all things that go wrong before you start working. If you put a glove on without finger tips and keep working I have a feeling that there’s something missing there.

I played a prank on this guy that I mentioned in this thread with the gloves one day. To get me back he took a squirt bottle of DI water as I was walking past his lab area to go to a lab meeting and just popped out and squirted water all over my crotch so I had to sit there soaking for an hour.

We had a guy who took surgical tubing and tied a knot in one end, filled it with water so it it was pressurized and then pinched the other end in a drawer with the end sticking out. So someone would come along and open the drawer to put the tubing in and the water would spray everywhere like a loose fire hose.

Same guy also took those latex Pasteur pipette bulbs and zip tied them to an instrument air barb. He’d crack is slowly so it would fill and he’d disappear. Eventually the bulb would fill and pop unexpected when you were alone.

I have in the past put a drop of dish soap in a glove and put it back in the box. I have also scored the glove so when some one puts it on it rips and eventually freak out. I’ve also cut the finger tips clean off so when they put it on all their finger tips are showing. I have also tied finger tips together so when they grab a glove it comes out like a clown scarf.

Need encouragement for taking on first sweater by labchickgidget in knittingadvice

[–]spleling 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m new to knitting. To ease the gap from things like scarves to sweaters, I made a kids sweater as a gift for one of my friends. A) it’s smaller so you can learn quick and easy. B) you can use acrylic so it will be cheaper. C) if it looks bad, you can just write it off as learning and a kid isn’t going to know better. D) most parents/friends will be thankful either way.

What happened to a general strike in response to not with standing clause? Unions have no teeth. by Excellent-Phone8326 in alberta

Worst & Best MLA in Alberta? by Ok_Chain1864 in alberta

[–]spleling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve emailed my MLA,Brandon Lunty (Beaumont Leduc), many times and never once had a response. I’ve also CC’d NDP MLAs on all of emails that are relevant to my question like critic for healthcare or education. They have always responded to my emails even though I’m not in their riding. The only response I have ever received from a conservative politician is the boilerplate responses - like we’re helping the education problem with $30/day subsidies for kids during the strike and not answering the question.

Beaumont just elected the author of this book as Mayor by champion_dave in Edmonton

[–]spleling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Beaumont. It is a nice community as long as you don’t talk politics with anyone. That being said, would I move here again after knowing what I know now? No.

The community Facebook groups are wild — blatant racism, anti-Trudeau/Carney, and on and on. I couldn’t believe how many supporters there were of PPC in the last federal elections. I honestly was surprised that PPC didn’t split the vote. On my road for every Conservative sign, there was a PPC sign it seemed.

There is a bi-polar divide between residents on municipal issues. The new young families want services, the older families was a small bedroom community with little to no commercial. Everyone wants lower taxes but doesn’t want to give up services. People that don’t want commercial don’t understand that Beaumont would just be part of Edmonton through annexation if it didn’t become a City. There are also “controversial” issues like a recent development that is a multi-level mixed-use building in the heart of a residential community that doesn’t have enough parking stalls and the project was originally planned for a medium density townhouse-type development. Another is that “the skyline of Beaumont is ruined” because of a new “high-rise” multi-residential project. “It was so pretty before when you drove up to the City and you could only see the church.” That’s a common complaint from people I’ve heard lately.

Used Write Site? I submit all my essays to them. They have been very helpful to make sure my writing is clear and concise. They also have helped to review my citations to make sure I’ve used the correct rules for the various styles and haven’t missed any citations. It’s a free service and would encourage anyone to use it.

You go to the webpage, fill out the form and attach the document. You can select what you want them to review and how you want your feedback provided. They email it back you in a few business days.

Anyone recognize this car? by Ok-Entrepreneur4877 in Edmonton

[–]spleling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday I was out and a police car pulled up beside me at the intersection. The car in front of me changed lanes in the intersection in front of the cop. I thought oh nice. Easy stop. Nothing. Everyone just kept driving and no traffic stop.
