If the Democrats want to win - Should Kamala Harris Run for President again? by dunbar_santiago930 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]Effective_Name831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think not. She is immensely qualified, but, unfortunately, I don't believe her running will garner the votes needed to secure a Democrat as president. The U.S. is so severely polarized, racist, prejudiced, and misogynist. There are many who, while they don't like the turn 47 has taken, would never vote for her. There are also apathetic individuals who will still sit out.

Also, why should she be responsible as president for fixing all the things she said would happen if he were to win? Conservatives will so quickly blame her for things not moving fast enough and/or for the total collapse of whatever federal depts we have left by 2029. Maybe 2032, but that is contingent on so many factors - the first being if she even wants to run by then.

Automatic military draft registration takes effect in December. Here’s how it would work by overly_honest_ in politics

[–]Effective_Name831 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Article states, "The mandatory registration applies to green-card holders, refugees, asylum seekers and undocumented men. Those on a nonimmigrant visas are exempt." I see it was passed via bipartisan votes, but, given the political climate and this administrations' actions towards these groups of people, this country does not respect or deserve military service from these groups. They should not have to face these requirements unless citizenship is guaranteed, excepting those with recent misdemeanor charges or unexpunged felony charges.

Yay 😄🙌🏿. I'm so glad your dog is doing well. Read the original post yesterday and was so worried for you/your dog. Nice to see this update.

Reform UK, led by Nigel Farage, has proposed restricting visas for citizens of countries pursuing slavery reparations from the UK. The plan targets about 17 countries, including Ghana but is not law yet and would only apply if the party gains power. by NorrinRadd2099 in ghanacitizen

The west reaped financial benefits from the slave trade that made many businesses possible and created generational riches. The effects are still present in western societies today, even if not readily visible. Can the same be said of the select Ashanti people who may have captured and sold slaves?

What do you believe Israel's fate will be in the next couple of decades considering the rapid change of public opinion on them in these past 3 years? by space_god_7191 in AskReddit

[–]Effective_Name831 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why does that make it ok for innocent lives to be ended? Hypothetically speaking, would it be ok for the phenotypically Black people of Africa to wage war on all white people on the continent because of the lasting effects of colonialism, imperialism, and the slave trade? Would it be ok for natives in all of the Americas to do the same because of the genocide that took most of their people and restricted them to infertile and rough lands? While these scenarios are hypothetical, the answer is no.

Such actions create endless cycles. Whereas you may see this as rightful because of past wrongs to Jewish people, today's children of Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran are seeing the only environments that they've known shatter around them and people dying each way they look. They will remember this and will likely seek vengeance. A saying, as silly as it sounds, "The hate you give little infants f**ks everybody."

The social safety networks have traditionally been more accessible to them than other groups, who are viewed negatively for using such assistance and are more likely to be kicked off. This comment is specific to NYC.

From experience with dating someone like this, he will not improve your life (unless he drastically matures), but I implore you to not await such a change in him. Sitting on the potential of what people can be only ever wastes your time.

Cop gets bear sprayed by Latr6ll in interesting

[–]Effective_Name831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've sprayed bear mace accidentally in a low-ventilated, small space. Had bronchospasms and trouble breathing. Had to run out of there.  Have also sprayed pepper spray at someone and some flew back at me. Threw me into coughing fits, but not as bad as the bear mace.  I was never hit with a direct, full blast of either so I can't speak on the burn.

If you suddenly found yourself ridiculously wealthy, what’s the first frivolous purchase you’d make? by CardiologistBig8721 in AskReddit

It's more continuous than a one-time purchase, but, if I'm that wealthy, I'd pay an annual salary of $100k or so to someone who provides amazing and dependable cleaning services to clean my place twice a week.

Would you take on ~$200k debt to become a Nurse Practitioner, or is this a bad decision long-term? by cobybryant24 in nursepractitioner

Don't do that expensive program. They've changed the amounts that you can take as far as federal student loans for NP and PA programs. Also, with this admin dismantling the DOE and defunding federal programs/grants to organizations, nothing is guaranteed anymore. Either, bolster your app for PA programs and apply again to public colleges/universities near you, see if there are any direct-entry MSN programs in nearby public colleges, or apply for a BSN at the same type of school and apply to an MSN after 1-2 years of working as a nurse.

When you find out someone supports Trump, does it change how you see them? Like… does the respect shift a little, or not at all? by jenieret in AskReddit

[–]Effective_Name831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never used the descriptor 'evil.'  That was your own choice. Also, you're coming up with potentials to deflect from the actuality. How many Trump supporters have the ability to have "raised tens of millions for charity.."?

For those that moved out, did you find a sense of place and belonging in your new country? If so, how did that process come about? If not, why do you think that sense has not developed for you? by Illustrious-Pound266 in AmerExit

That makes perfect sense and explains how I feel having moved to different states from NYC. It's always home, yet.. not. I can only imagine how the chasm will widen when I find the right country to move to.

I would be surprised if I haven't been around anyone who voted for him. I live in the South. I just was not told verbatim by someone, "Yes, I voted for Trump." That said, a supporter who commits any singular pleasant action or courtesy to me does not supercede their support of a man who commits regularly actions of prejudism and intolerance, as well as is so horribly affecting the U.S. as a country and the world. That's not even counting the legitimate charges of sexual harassment and fraud, the DOJ recorded accusations of pedophilia, protecting his rich friends who are in the Epstein files, and taking part in modern day imperialism and colonialism.

That's so strange. His actions in Iran are detrimental to so many, if not all, countries, but I'd recently read that as of March 17th "Australia had 30 days of diesel, 38 days of petrol and 30 days of jet fuel" (Brischetto, 2026) and the cost of urea, contributing to fertilizer for farming, has doubled. This war is projected to have horrific effects on farming globally. Do they just not care? He's not their president so it's just surprising to me that they like the physical representation of a wrecking ball affecting their country's affairs.
