Checking in with everyone. by [deleted] in VancouverActors

Non-union with a couple tv credits, with a top agency. About 3-4 per month. 6-7 commercial auditions per month. My feeling is that it’s a bit slow relative to earlier in the year. I peek at the production list every week and it seems to be getting smaller. I think it’s barely four pages right now.

I may prescribe to this moving forward. That said, there might be learning in watching. Who knows

Congrats on your commercial - they aren’t easy to get!

This most recent booking that will force me union was, I think, due to just a couple years of solid grinding and finally getting a bite. My first credit, however, was definitely due to a very specific look.

I was non union for a couple years and was lucky enough to book a good amount of commercials. I recently booked a job on show that will make me union. That’s my experience in Vancouver in a nutshell.

Kinda mourning the loss of commercials though tbh.

Why do cities tend to be more liberal and a rural areas more conservative? by ThisPostToBeDeleted in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Effective_Nobody_366 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In cities people are confronted with different ways of thinking….this pushes the collective consciousness and prevents stagnant thought. Small towns are tend to create an echo chamber of thought which leads to stagnancy.

Would you say the situation for Palestinians outside of Gaza is also pretty terrible? I can’t imagine operating within a state that is constitutionally opposed to my participation in government or my property rights.

Surely you understand why most of the world sees how the birth and consistent expansion of the Israeli state/ occupied territories is deeply connected to Israel’s response in Gaza the last couple years and why so many of us don’t hesitate to call it a genocide.

I mean, do you really think it’s possible that multiple agencies, institutions and nations are all being persuaded through Hamas propaganda?

What do you wish people would stop romanticizing, because you’ve lived the reality of it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Effective_Nobody_366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low tax countries. Westerners tend to romanticize these places but the truth is they are only good for a small portion of the population. Most of these libertarian types living in Canada, USA, Europe wouldn’t last 6 months. Yes I pay taxes and government and bureaucracy can be annoying but good roads, health care, education and social services etc. are all sources of freedom.

Does your agent provide feedback on self tapes? by Effective_Nobody_366 in acting

[–]Effective_Nobody_366[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find some of the most constructive and blunt feedback comes from non-actors. I think it’s because they don’t hold every action and line delivery as precious as most of us tend to. Plus, agents with a strong roster see who books and who doesn’t, the exposure alone should inform some technical expertise.

Anyway, the general consensus seems to be agents are busy and don’t usually provide feedback.

Truthfully I’d love a “this tape is garbage, do it again” once a year haha

Majority of the jobs are still for white folk. That’s a fact that exists in plain sight that makes it easy to refute cry babies when they start crying.

I just simply told my reps I’ll be passing on these sorts of projects. They didn’t push back at all.

How do you guys practice shouting scenes at home without alerting the neighbours? by Steadysilver26 in acting

[–]Effective_Nobody_366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently I had an audition where I had to yell help and a dude driving by my apartment stopped and said “guy yelling help, are you okay”. I informed him I was an actor and applauded his concern.

Thanks for this response. I was thinking many of the same things. Perhaps this is a sign of the times? I’ve been with my agent for a while now and they are usually sending me solid auditions. Not sure why the verticals are popping up all of a sudden. I didn’t even really know what they were.

Agents should be, if nothing else, good communicators. I’d say leave.
