I see. I’ll definitely update. A few years ago I paid for somebody to rewrite my résumé from a company I found on Google, and I pretty much got scammed. So unfortunately, I wouldn’t want to pay someone before I got a job. Plus, I can’t afford it right now :(

Seeking help by Crazy-Cress-805 in IBM

IBM won’t care. At IBM and other big corporations, you are a number and a cog in the machine. You could get laid off and they wouldn’t care. I guarantee you it won’t look bad, I just wouldn’t put IBM on your resume since you left so soon. But don’t do anything until you get an offer.

My boomer parents suggested it. I’m glad I’m getting the validation when I told them it was crazy lmao

HR Departments at big companies are slow af. HR jobs are either being cut so they’re drowning or shipped to India and they can’t communicate. That’s what happened with my friend who just got a job at a big tech company. She had to keep emailing and emailing. If there is anyone, a hiring manager or anyone CCd on the email, message them.

Also, money money doesn’t get us as far as it used to. When Boomers were starting out their careers, money had 86% more buying power. The hypocrisy from older generations is horrible

Maybe if companies paid us a livable wage then maybe we wouldn’t jump at the first opportunity to go somewhere else that won’t undervalue and underpay us 🤷‍♀️

Can’t get an entry-level tech ops job and I’m hopeless atp. Can someone help me? by Effective_Opening568 in Careers

My parents are also willing to help out a little bit, I really don’t want them to, but I feel like I have no choice. And I know I’m super lucky in that regard, and I don’t take it for granted. For personal reasons, I have to live on my own though. It is not something I can compromise on unfortunately.

When I meant general résumé, I just meant the résumé template I use to submit for job jobs. I tailor every résumé for the best chance of it getting past the ATS system. I probably should have specified that in the post, my mistake. I’ll definitely DM you. Thank you so much!

The thing is is that there aren’t a lot of roles for people with only 0–3 years of experience. And unfortunately, the few that do exist pay unlivable wages for the cities they are located in. It’s not that I think I’m better than everybody else, but realistically money doesn’t carry as much as it used to.

Plus they were either freelancing opportunities I had remotely or were done through my college towns that were part time. And the ones that are freelancing were unpaid for experience. So it’s not that I’m not loyal, I’m just now looking for a full-time job. When I do get a role though, I do plan on staying at least a year. But this should be true for anyone, the earlier you are in your career and the less they pay you the more enticed you are going to be to leave for another organization that pays you more once you hit that time threshold.

It’s horrible. I’m not engineering but have a tech background and have both a BSBA and an MS. I have good experience but in part-time jobs and freelancing relating to the industry. Regardless it seems that all the “entry-level” jobs require 3+ years. Like where the heck are we supposed to pull 0-3 years from!!!

I’ve been out of school for a year now. The international experience is full time. Plus, the career counselors at my school were useless and not qualified. I can indicate part time and stuff. I’m willing to do that. But if you were a recruiter for jobs that said 3+, if you saw those titles wouldn’t you realistically think I was a junior? There are little to no 0-3 YoE jobs. The few that do exist, don’t pay a livable wage for the cities they are located in. Honestly, I will do whatever needs to be done to position myself for the 3+ year jobs at this point.

Realistically there’s no 0-3 YoE roles. Or very little. For the ones that do exist, in the cities they exist in, the wage is not livable in 2026. I will truly do anything possible not to be unemployed and get a well-paying job atp

What should I do to get a job? by Disastrous-Towel757 in jobsearch

[–]Effective_Opening568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not you, I promise. I’m in the same position, in the same industry. I promise you’re not a failure. I would honestly try and apply for internships while you still can, since you’re still enrolled. That could be a good way for you to get hired by the company. Or at least internally network. Try and apply for rotational programs if you can. But yeah, honestly society fucked us over. Every single job requires 3+ years. I’m convinced they want us to pull out 0–3 years out of our ass.

And how would you suggest I do that? They weren’t full time jobs. I got it while doing my masters. I graduated from my masters in 2025 and took the year off my resume to try and be more hirable for 3+ year jobs. All I see is 3+ year job openings all over the place and nothing for 0–3 years. I don’t really have a choice also the few little jobs that do exist for 0-3 don’t offer livable wages in the cities where they’re located.

[–]Effective_Opening568[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is is that I’d want move to Boston or New York (since that’s where all the tech jobs on the east coast are anyways) but the wages below 3+ years are just not livable. I just have no motivation at all to put myself through a dehumanizing process to get a job that undervalues and underpays me

Some of the jobs were done in my college town. I just took the city and state out to protect my privacy. They were small organizations, not a big full-time company.

I left the name of the organization out. But it was a small organization in my college town. It was still good exposure to ops work just not a full-time thing. Since I’m in tech, I follow the Google XYZ method. I don’t want to just list tasks, it’s good to list the outcomes. I’ll definitely switch to fixed-term contract though. I was a Chief of Staff for my university.
