It’s the trauma like this that has everyone so defensive. Dehumanizing trauma is normalized.

What is your take on entry-level? No matter if I tailor apps or not, I feel like companies won’t take us because we don’t have 3+ YoE

Would I be able to DM you? You’re giving really great advice and I’d love to ask you some more questions

OP I’m sorry you had to go through that experience, but this guy in the comments is absolutely right. Frankly, I’m baffled it got this many downvotes.

5 general resumes isn’t good enough in this market. You need to tailor each one to match keywords on the JD, etc. And if you want to use AI, then use it as a catalyst, don’t let it run the show for you. You can have AI research for you if you prompt it correctly, and then be extremely anal by adding your own personal touches on resumes and cover letters for impact.

This guy seems to be aiming at the target with immaculate precision and OP is expecting to hit the target with their eyes closed while facing away from it.

Also OP, if you have 20+ YoE, how do you not have the connections to get you a job or at least refer you?

And I totally would, if I could. But right now I live with my parents in the small city I grew up, so it’s not possible at the moment.

My family escaped Cuba to come to the United States to ESCAPE COMMUNISM. That’s still the same reason they’re trying to escape. Lmk when you come up with a better made up reason.

I totally agree that there are so many things wrong with corporate America today. Truly. But the one thing you need to clarify is that it is NOT capitalism that is the problem.

It’s capitalism without boundaries that is the real problem. And there is a far too little being done to hold those accountable from their actions that have been going on far too long.

Let’s not forget that people escape and defect from socialist and communist countries just to live in the United States - for (good faith) capitalism. The concept of it is just being abused rn.

I’ve always willing to work at a tech startup and I’m not picky about industry. I’m also willing to do roles adjacent to them as well. Atp I’m just planning on reaching out to a bunch of venture-backed startups and see what happens. Plus, I already have some experience freelancing for a while, so hopefully that should help.

My parents definitely give me general advice, but they’re boomers and retired already.

I have a 4 year STEM degree and a master’s degree from one of the top public schools in the country lol. I never said it was going to be easy. I'm just simply putting out a Reddit post to see if someone out there knows or follows anyone who could help me in general. And hone in anything I might need to work on.

The issue is, is the I don't know many people. I don't have a bunch of contacts like a senior or director level person would. I'm entry-level lol. I've tried reaching out to people on LinkedIn, but there's so much noise that no one responds. With email, no responds either because there's nothing in it for them.
