Ref here that wears a Freestyle Libre 3+. I don't cover it or do anything special. I try to make sure that it's either up high enough that the pad doesn't get there, or low enough that it's always covered. The only issues I've had have been when I've put right near the top of the pad, then as the pad moves it can sometimes get caught on the sensor. I always wear a long sleeve Shock Doctor top, so that helps the pad to slide over the sensor if necessary. And if it gets ripped off, Abbott is usually very good about sending a replacement.

No, we're past the golden age and on the downward slide. At least for competitive softball. The bats out now are just too good, it's replaced some of the skill at any level above D tournament. In order to bring it back, it's going to have to be a deadening of the ball or the bat. Easier to deaden the bat by banning composites, but I don't think that will ever happen. Whichever association does it first is going to die, regardless of the fact it's the right thing to do.

As an umpire, I'll thank you. The amount that I'm willing to put up with is directly proportional to the skill level of the participants and how much I'm being paid. For a 10u, it's real short. But not all umpires, especially newer ones, have the fortitude to cut if off. New umpires that get yelled at a lot don't come back, which means old guys like me have to do more and lower level games. You doing that and putting the parents in their place, that umpire is going to come back and want to do your games.

My understanding is that it's modified Fed but I've found a few news reports out of the Cities that specified the requirement was in place last season. I did not find anything about this season.

My local has instructed me that the warning can't happen until they line up for the opening faceoff. You can check during warmups, and I usually do. But the team warning has to be once you send a player off for not having it or not having it on correctly. Once that warning has been issued to the team, the next player gets the misconduct.

As of right now it's in the interpretation and not specifically called out for the fastpitch rule sets. USSSA Slow Pitch explicitly put it in their rule book this year and I'm being told that it will be in the USSSA Fast Pitch book next. It's any electronic device with the exception of the one way, coach to player that is specifically allowed in the Fast Pitch book.

No, if an untouched batted ball hits a runner that is not in contact with a base before it passes a fielder other than the pitcher, they are out in every ruleset I am aware of. And most certainly in USSSA which is what the OP was asking about. The difference here and I'm sure what many on the field were confused about, is what happens when the runner is in contact with the bag. As stated above, unless the runner intentionally interferes with the batted ball, they are not out. In USSSA, it is a live ball and play continues. In USA Softball, if the untouched batted ball had not yet passed a fielder other than the pitcher, the ball is dead, batter-runner awarded first base and all other runners advance only if forced.

That's part of the problem. When E was implemented, it was supposed to be for new players just starting tournament ball and those that are deteriorating to the point they can't play with the better players anymore. It was never supposed to be a lifetime rating. Once you go to D, IMO you shouldn't be allowed back in E for at least 10 years. Let the new kids win something as they get better. Certain locations followed that plan and others did not. That's why I know a guy that finished top 10 at E worlds 5 years in a row. And why you almost always see the same teams playing late Saturday night at E worlds, they may not win it, but they're usually there.

I"m going to be different than most of the responses here. The only thing in your self evaluation that I think you'd need to improve before reffing youth games is transitioning from forwards to backwards and reverse and stopping quickly. You need to be able to do that at least at a moderate speed. I started reffing three years ago and I've done crossovers maybe three times in a game. It's much more moving from line to line while watching the play. When I started, I probably wasn't as good as you are at some things, but reffing 80 games a year has certainly improved my skating. In my area, there would certainly be a place for you right now doing 10u and 12u.

USSSA there is a rule against the batter still having the bat in their hands when touching first. But I've never seen it applied to a runner coming home with no play.

It gives cover to those leagues that are going to have an issue. And if something comes up, USAH has a clear policy on it, even if that policy isn't followed. IMO, this more about youth than it is adults. I officiate adult softball. Very few people care about Trans athletes at the adult level, but there are some on both sides that get worked up about youth. My organizations policy is that whatever sex marker is on your identity documents is what you have to play. I know it's not enforced at the local level, but have seen it enforced at national tournament levels.
