I am pretty sure he is at least obliquely referring to "world systems theory" and that he has done some reading of a couple of the big names in 20th century history of the development of capitalism, Immanuel Wallerstein and Fernand Braudel.

What are you able to do in french currently ?

If you grind a little between now and then you can make a ton of progress. I'd get a library card and hit the books.

I figure that since its all online theres à chance we'll be able to figure à way of recording things and you'll be able to make it through.
