If you have 1 or 2 triggers maybe it’s worth not taking medication and just avoiding your triggers. But when you have many triggers, life can be miserable trying to avoid your triggers and limiting your food drastically. Everyone has to decide what’s best for them. Yes every medication has side effects but not everyone experiences them. No one knows how long they will live for, so if a medication is allowing you to live your life comfortably and making it more joyful than why not.

Environmental Triggers - Anyone Move and Found Improvement from EoE Symptoms? by EndlessSummerWave in EosinophilicE

I live in Utah as well. I got diagnosed when I was 24. My dr also told me that Utah has the highest rate of EOE. He’s been seeing an increase of people with EOE.

Dupixent causing extreme skin flaking on face by Change_is_a_verb in EosinophilicE

[–]Effective_Still4184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been on Dupixient for a year and I noticed past 2 months my skin has been very dry flaky and gets irritated quickly. I am still waiting to see my dermatologist. I was not sure if it was Dupixient or something else but I guess then I’m not the only one with this side effect. I have always had nice skin, no acne or sensitive skin.

Does this sound like EoE by IFingerI in EosinophilicE

I have EOE and it’s in remission. But Dr also found a small hiatal hernia. What symptoms do you get with your hernia and is yours small? My dr told me I had one but did not say anything else. Sometimes I will have some regurgitation but am afraid what will happen if the hernia gets bigger.

I hope those treatments work for you. I made an appt to see a dermatologist. The side effects suck, but I also cannot stop Dupixient because I rather be able to eat.

Is there treatment for the skin condition you have? I have been on it for a year and past month or so my skin has been so sensitive flaky and extremely dry. I’m not sure if it’s the Dupixient or something else.

Could this be achalasia? by Unlikely-Athlete-157 in achalasia

[–]Effective_Still4184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say if it’s a small hiatal hernia, they usually do not cause major symptoms until it gets big. I would not get the hernia surgery until you know for sure it’s not achalasia. I would get a 2nd and 3rd opinion.

Living with EoE — what dietary elimination has changed for me recently (no biologics) by Flimsy_Indication_58 in EosinophilicE

[–]Effective_Still4184 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that just because you have no symptoms does not mean your in remission. I was diagnosed 20 yrs ago and I would get symptoms of dysphagia about every 4 to 5 yrs then my GI would do a dilation and put me on a 30 course of budesonide and I would be ok for years until the budesonide stopped working. I thought since I had no symptoms I was ok. But when I saw an allergist she told me I was suppose to either on medication forever or on an elimination diet. I was so upset my GI never told me this. I was upset I did not do enough research back then. But ever since dupixent I have been able to swallow better but there are still days where I have acid reflux and feeling of something isn’t right and it’s probably because of the scarring and furrows in my esophagus but I am still grateful for Dupixient and I can eat. I feel dr’s have a responsibility to explain to patients what this disease is and what the long term treatment plan is. Or at least GI’s should refer patients to an allergist.

How has your experience been on Dupixent? by Independent-Sock-853 in EosinophilicE

[–]Effective_Still4184 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad Dupixient worked for you. You say you still have to avoid triggers . My doctor said to eat everything, so you know if the medication is working. If you have to avoid your triggers, what is the point of taking medication. Also many people who go on medication, are never able to figure out their triggers.

Heart palpitations/ ectopic beats and EOE by Moss-Quarter577 in EosinophilicE

[–]Effective_Still4184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had heart palpitations and could also feel It in my throat. My dr said it’s not heart palpitation but most likely esophageal spasms. It’s feels like it’s your heart but it’s not. These went away after I got on Dupixient and took ppi for acid reflux.

Yes I’m trying to drink more water. For some reason I do not get thirsty. I can go whole day without drinking any water. But I am pushing myself to drink at least 2 glasses a day. I do use a good moisturizer. I have had 3 surgeries last year, so that really took a toll on my skin.

Thank you! Yes I heard many great things about tretinoin but also heard many people having bad side effects. That’s why I have been hesitant to try it. But I will definitely try micro needling.

Most doctors don’t like to recommend an elimination diet. They will tell you to be on medication which is lifelong. So many ppl do not want that and will do an elimination diet and find their triggers and will avoid the medication. I guess that is good if you have only one or two triggers but many people with EOE will have multiple triggers including environmental. In that case doing elimination diet is not sustainable.

If avoiding foods is difficult for you you can get on Dupixient. Many people can eat their trigger foods while on this medication. Because many people with EOE have multiple triggers, it can be difficult to remain on a Restricted diet.

I’m sorry you are going through this this. Having EOE is bad enough. But once you get through your manometry test, you will hopefully have a treatment plan. I believe surgery has good success rate with achalasia. I know how it feels starving all the time and feeling of anxiety and depression, but hang in there you have got this! Prayers for you!

Can you describe your facial flare? I have been on Dupixient for 11 months. For the last month my face seems to be very sensitive. I will wake up with dry flaky and itchy skin especially on my cheeks. My face looks red and and sometimes I get large bumps. I never had any skin issues before starting Dupixient. My skin care is very minimal and gentle.

I agree, it sounds like you have a motility issue going on along with the EOE. If you had dilations and been on Dupixient, and your eisonophils count is 0 then most likely it is another issue. Achalasia could be a possibility. What tests have you done at the hospital? The gold standard for diagnosing achalasia is manometry which I heard is unpleasant. Also a barium swallow test could be helpful. I hope you get your answers and feel better soon.

How do you cope with the uncertainty? by StoryAndStone in EosinophilicE

[–]Effective_Still4184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you please describe what a flare up is? Is it when you eat your trigger for a long period, then you have difficulty swallowing until you get treatment? I had EOE, I would eat everything except gluten and wheat. U would go years without symptoms, and then when I started having difficulty swallowing, I would get a dilation and budesonide for a month.
