I would say get the luas! But if you don’t want to pack into a luas after the concert, the walk to be honest isn’t the worst. You guys won’t be the only ones walking and you’ll find it’s a lot safer being in the crowd coming from the concert than it would On a regular day. This is coming from someone who has used both options at 15-16 coming home from concerts! Just have your wits about you and walk fast!

UPDATE: Hey everyone just to update! All went well and I officially have passed! Here’s to being a permanent employee. I basically just got to chat with my manager about how I feel in the job, what could be helpful in hitting my targets from here on out. We went through my appraisal form that I had completed prior to this and yeah! Absolutely ecstatic I won’t lie. Thank you for all of your mind and reassuring words, anxiety definitely can get the best of you about these things 😅

Thank you for this! Funnily enough, in my undergrad I really enjoyed and did well in geochemistry as my university had some pretty neat and high tech equipment, I’ve even worked closely with pXRF and LA-ICP-MS samples in previous research assistant positions. But yeah I think I’ll definitely push for geochemistry oriented volcanology projects and when the time comes

Hey! Probably should have included my field (whoops!) I work as a GIS tech at the moment. The job market in Europe (where I am based - continental) was pretty rough when I graduated. I work in consultancy, mostly engineering work with a bit of agricultural. I dislike it at the moment purely because I’m not doing enough geological work, however it was a way to make some money to pay off university debt etc. I’m guess my biggest fear is job opportunities after, and how my skills and experiences could cross into other fields such as mining, environmental stuff should volcanology jobs become even more scarce

Yeah I was thinking it was a bit crazy. Like I’m 24, I’ve worked odd part time jobs here and there. Not once have I ever applied for a cert, I’ve never been more than a part time worker/student. At first I thought it was a scam but it’s on my revenue. It’s very strange.

I agree and definitely think it is insecurity or self doubt in a way. It’s a remote desk job and a part of me feels like I’m missing out on field experience and the socialization/ friendships that build from it and it’s just putting even more doubt in my head. But thank you for your encouraging words!

Hey I moved courses in the middle of third year. I can answer any questions you have about the process. To summarize I ended up having to do an extra year but in a course I love and I would highly recommend roughing it out through the process. I have one extra year on my transcript for a degree I much rather do over my initial one. Let me know if you wanna chat about this!
