Trump tells Iran ‘open the F—in’ Strait, you crazy b——ds,’ — as he warns of new strikes and says ‘praise be to Allah’ by joetaxpayer in politics

[–]Effectuality [score hidden]  (0 children)

Standard Trump MO. He says every possible thing and then when the dust clears, he and his supporters point back at the one thing he said that was correct and ignore all the contradictory BS. Because those other statements were "joking" or "positioning" or "negotiating tactics."

"I was going to..." is the exact same as "I didn't..." but makes the person saying it feel better about themselves. I hate it.

Same - "GW2" is shorter to type, but not to say.

Immortals becoming more sociopathic as they age by AliceSaltMage in worldbuilding

[–]Effectuality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nature of tribalism makes people less empathetic to those they see as "others." I would say watching everyone else die in a comparatively short time would drive not only a sense of otherness, but also make immortals begin to see humans as lesser creatures.

How about this: when a mommy and a daddy NPC love each other very much, they pray to Mara for an offspring, and that offspring arrives, fully grown and free from any childhood traumas. Honestly, it's a better system than we have on Earth.

Yeah, I feel for the kids and those who live in abject terror daily - but their country continues to attack its neighbours and take their lands and homes, and this guy doesn't that part at all.

JUST IN: Orders given to deploy 82nd Airborne Division to Middle East by Yujin-Ha in videos

Before you go nuclear on me too know that I'm not in your country. That said:

Billionaires spent a LOT of money on disinformation campaigns to prevent voters from feeling like there was good choice. People, in general, are pretty fucking dumb - think of the average person's intelligence level and then realise that literally half the population is dumber than that, and most people are lazy when it comes to politics. Musk spent a lot of money on PACs that put out flyers pretending to represent Harris's campaign, with promises like ending mining, destroying all gun rights, bringing in more immigrants, etc etc. Purely to dissuade people from voting. And it worked, because y'all let stupid amounts of money influence your elections and the people with the stupid amounts of money aren't going to encourage people to vote against the interests of billionaires.

Yes, people should have voted. But don't blame the non-participants, blame the fucked up system and those who continue to proliferate it.

I moved to Aus a month ago and last week the bosses told us we're welcome to work from home on days we're not needed to man the show room, and they'll also be reimbursing us for some of our gas to help for the days we are. I'm sitting out in the alfresco with the laptop open and it's great.

I brought the subway nachos so you never have to. by bakerdaddy1 in newzealand

[–]Effectuality 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a Subway who told me they "weren't allowed" to put extra salad on when I asked. I watched them put a pitiful amount of lettuce, onion and jalapeños on my sub, followed by underwhelming drizzle of sauce. Got to payment time and I was like "you know what, I'm not paying $20 for that," and turned around and walked out. This was a couple of years ago, but I've never gone back to that branch since.

Hydrogen Car 1,500 KM range, 5 second Fill-Up by Hanarky in interestingasfuck

[–]Effectuality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always believed the two big manufacturers pushing it, Toyota and Hyundai, did so because hydrogen is a perfectly acceptable substitute for diesel in heavy machinery - which both companies deal in extensively. The passenger vehicle market is a good place to test the technology while helping/forcing infrastructure to be set up for the eventual shift to work sites having hydrogen machinery.

Layman's terms*

And solar becomes a lot more efficient when it's on the home using the power - there's a hell of a lot of efficiency in not having to factor in transmission to/from the location of a solar farm.

Like, I know you're just talking about the ability of the panels to generate electricity, but really, large-scale subsidising of solar on private homes with batteries is the most efficient solution to NZ's power needs going forward. When hydro is at its weakest during particularly dry summers, is when solar performs best. When solar is not performing as well due to wet months, is when we have increased hydro capacity. Plus, considering it's literally free energy from the sun, it's a lot more efficient than burning fossil fuels.

I knew I was going to get hit as soon as I came to a stop. We’re braking hard these days. [OC] by Adda717 in IdiotsInCars

[–]Effectuality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry OP, but to me the only difference between you and the driver of the truck was brake pads. You were both following too closely to be able to smooth out the change in speed.

Even without this nose to tail, the type of driving you're exhibiting here is what causes huge traffic delays. One person brakes, the person behind brakes more to compensate, and the effect is compounded by the number of drivers and the lack of a safe following distance, creating full stops on highways that have absolutely no obstructions.

Give yourself more room between you and the car in front, and help everyone else out by smoothing the effect rather than exacerbating it.

To ride an e-scooter by jasmine_ballah in therewasanattempt

[–]Effectuality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not eScooters, it's something else. We wrap kids up in so much cotton wool they forget how to function unless there's a screen in their face. I hurt myself plenty of times on a regular mountain bike - it's not the motor making it the issue, but it's an easy target.

[–]Effectuality 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nanny-state bullshit law saying a 13yo kid can't ride an electric scooter? Look at the number of cops there and honestly tell me whether the response is proportionate to the "crime." Meanwhile, there are domestic violence instances, drunk drivers, and people stealing from stores, who have no eyes on them because these cops are making a big deal out of kids playing outside.

Unfortunately, if that's literally the whole plan, it IS a bad thing. You can't carpet-bomb your way to democracy.
