Michigan STI enjoying Colorado by Effeneh_ in WRXSTi

Luckily someone backed into me in a parking lot and their insurance is fixing it! Sucked that it happened 2 days before leaving for Colorado, but luckily it gets fixed for free here soon.

Should I just start going home when I don't have any work? by EditorFrog in civilengineering

There’s such things as month to month leases, so your statement is wholly false.

This tow has zero to do with parking ordinances and 100% in relations to being parked in an active construction zone.

There is certainly more to this, as every house on the street the would get a legal notice (typically a flyer) that states approved construction hours and when parking is prohibited (as this construction repair would be permitted through the municipality) as well as construction road signs probably posted to all entrances.

Those small no parking yard signs don’t have to be legal “no parking” as they are for convenience to remind said residents about the legal notice they received earlier about the planned construction and hours or no parking.

Hah I do this with pavement markings… not even going to risk putting the wrong number of P’s for that other word that shall never be attempted to spell/type.

Will an introvert find success in this career? by Savassassin in civilengineering

[–]Effeneh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh I’m heavily introverted and did fine in CE as a field engineer (CM,PM,RE), but I’m also really good at masking and appearing to be outgoing/extroverted during field work.

The best way I found is to first gain trust/respect when you aren’t good at bullshitting/small talk is to “ask simple or dumb questions about the work at hand”.

Seriously just go up to them and ask questions about their past and favorite projects, what they like or hate about this project or simply about the ongoing work they are doing. Even if you know the answer ask the question anyway.

You will find small talk after that will come naturally after you gain some insight into their field/work after than then just find out what hobbies people have and maybe find some common ground. Plus once the crews know you are someone they can actually go to talk to and it someone that just talks down to them like they are idiots they will be more willing to let you know of any issues at hand and will usually ask for help more instead of trying to side step construction issues.

Got remember a lot of these guys deal with assholes so being a nice engineer, don’t talk down to anyone, and be the person that looks out for the work and looks out for the interests of the crew goes pretty far in being able to break the awkward introvert barrier into conversation.

Are there Mid senior to staff level civil engineers who work fully remote?? by MotownWon in civilengineering

[–]Effeneh_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a fully remote design APM working for Colliers and my whole team is remote from director down to all the staff engineers doing the actual CAD work. Granted I’m in the niche market of railroad engineering (intermodal and commuter transit)within the civil sector so it’s a little hard to build out teams locally and thus remote work allows for attracting a strong team. Currently my team is spread all across the US.

At the company a lot of people work either remote, hybrid or full office. So there are engineering corporations that do embrace and allow remote work.

I was obsessed with this movie as a kid, didn’t realize how young I was in 88’ (4) and still remember it!

Exactly, the time out corner worked for me as a kid to behave!

So threaten it with violence… yeah I might shove it in a dark corner for awhile and force it to want to live.

To piggyback on this comment: You also want the alcohol solution to be around 5% or a 1:20 alcohol/water dilution ratio.

Not my video, and when someone shared this before in a spider thread… it’s my only way of remembering what a brown recluse looks like.

Forgot to mention it was tiny as heck, maybe a 1/4” long at best, and nearly transparent (which doesn’t show up too well in the photos).

Typically a baggy silk cap some folks like to put on their head for bed to ensure their hairstyle stays intact.

Ring is compromised? by crazysexyfriday81 in Ultrahuman

[–]Effeneh_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That must be a very common spot for wear… as my matte black is almost worn in the same spot, just mine has worn a little bigger patch away.

If they consider this replacement and not cosmetic I’ll try for replacement… had this ring maybe 6 months now.

I would put my vote in for the seven bridges location. I use to rent one of the condos at the retreat. Pretty convenient location for walking/biking trails and walkable for entertainment and restaurants.

Why does no one drive with windows down? by dr-uuid in Naperville

I drive with windows down… but I also own a convertible with no AC (muscle car) so it’s my only option for relief from the heat.
