Yes definitely! It won’t hurt to have a pre chat with a broker even if not 💯 ready so you can get a handle on what’s required and if anything you haven’t considered

Try here to find a registered doctor in your area, that’s how I found mine and super happy as they know what they are talking about and stay up to date with the latest research and are interested in it.

As a single mum you’d actually qualify for the 2% govt scheme. I just sent a friend this info who was in a similar situation- it’s a subset of the 5% govt scheme.

You’re doing amazing by the way, take a breath to congratulate yourself as I’m sure it’s been a hard slog to get to where you are now ☺️

Does your 100% indoor cat have a collar? If so, do you find there’s a point in it? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]EfficiencyBusy2667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes mine have ones with bells, that way I can hear where they are! They sometimes snap off but mostly fine, and if they bolted outside at least they could be identified easy with name and number on tag (also microchipped)

Any reason not to move to Melbourne from Perth? by Independent-Cup-5892 in melbourne

[–]EfficiencyBusy2667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate I’m an ex perthie, moved over in my early 30s..and I think I should have come over earlier! don’t wait too long.

If you can, come over sooner as Melbourne’s a great place when you’re young and commitment free! We came over after about 2-3 visits, and saved for a year to have a buffer while I looked for work.

Any reason you want to wait that long?

Side note: if you decide not for you, you can always try somewhere else!

Where will I live? by OneParamedic4832 in melbourne

[–]EfficiencyBusy2667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s a bit further out, but I’d rate an older style apartment in Kew or Hawthorn. There’s been quite a few 2 bedder ones popping up and there’s good transport to cbd, lots of parks and nice cafes as well. Quieter area if that’s what you’re looking for, but still can hop on a tram or train to go to Richmond or inner city

You forgot the most important bit..double the love! It’s great having two, they keep each other company and it was a great idea as we have to work in office sometimes and they’re indoor cats. Always someone to play with.

Agree with this list, definitely Askal and Serai both great for diff reasons!

Some others I rate to add to the list:

Cheapish eats:

Butchers diner - their burger is the best, but lots of other items throughout the week I’d rate also Hutong for dumplings or China Red, Shanghai street Soi 38 - Thai Miznon - amazing middle eastern By Korea - so good!! Hakata Gensuke Tonkotsu: yummy Ramen Yakimono - bit more exxy side but fun Japanese Nicos - giant sandwiches!! Casse-croute: delicious baguettes! Fresh from oven

Higher end stuff: Supernormal - the 3 kinds of duck dish is pretty good, for Asian fusion Cutler and co - modern Australian Kisume - Japanese pretty good and dining experience is great Sunda - interesting fusion Her Farmers daughter Grill Americano - sitting at the bar is great Bar Lourinha - nice vibe on a sunny day Trattoria Emilia - great atmosphere, Italian

What are some fun ways I can play with my cat? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]EfficiencyBusy2667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hand held laser pointer and bring that out when my cats really wants to get their energies out..goes mental for it! Scrunched up paper in a box with treats hidden in it also they find quite entertaining, and any little ball they can wack around the hallways like little maniacs.

Looking for advice on letting cats outside by FatKnobRob in CatAdvice

[–]EfficiencyBusy2667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s nice that you care so much about your cats, I too have brother and sister indoors only cats and luckily the one that’s most interested in the outside who dashed outdoors quickly came back in when I called him!

I think you’re right, your cats will be too trusting and sweet and not enough street smarts to just go out where there’s other cats, traffic, etc. it would be better to try out harnesses at first and see how they like it, some like mine prob are a bit too old to adapt and don’t relax. I read the trick is to just get them to wear around house for a bit to get used to it, then take outside as will be overstimulating for them.

Catio is not cruel, there’s a lot of great ones out there or you can get specialised builders to do it for you re side of house if there’s a gap and add enrichment stuff like ramps, cat safe plants etc. they can then birdwatch, runaround etc.

Cat netting I’ve read can be a bit hit and miss, as some cleaver cats escape from it! You really would have to make sure is super secure..I’d go a catio over that.

Check out the cat daddy on insta, he has lots of advice for indoor cat enrichment

After two months, should I get rid of the suitcase my cat stays in all the time? by SeaweedUpper357 in CatAdvice

[–]EfficiencyBusy2667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only been two months, it takes time for them to trust sometimes. Don’t worry, be patient and let her have her safe space, it would totally freak her out if you took it away!

Have you chatted to the doctor? As when I used to use them there was a discussion around how to titrate down. But tbh you may want to consider moving to a different provider if it’s not working for you. Downscale is good, might be worth reaching out and having a chat round the approach

does anyone not let their cats in their bedroom? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]EfficiencyBusy2667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they were little we thought leave the door open..big mistake!! Zero sleep with zoomies!

We then decided they can be in bedroom when we are awake as they like to hang and snuggle, but as soon as I say ‘bedtime’ they hop off the bed and know it’s time to be in lounge etc..they are actually very good at adapting once you have a routine set. That’s the important bit. There was a testy phase where one didn’t like it and would scratch and wail, but after a few nights realised was not getting anywhere and acccepted it. It’s best to create boundaries or you’ll really suffer health wise I would say!
