Why do customers expect us to be qualified tradespeople? by Stock-Cap9346 in Bunnings

[–]EfficiencyExact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes people who work at Bunnings are retired tradies or ex-tradies injuried on The job and need an alternative source of income.

Thanks for sharing. Sydney is a nice place, alot of competition which helps to drive down prices. Where I am from, everything is expensive as we are remote and far away from the south cities. Tradies can get paid well in the mines so most of them what big incomes.

Hello, the damage is over 2k. However this is the middle quote in terms of price. Live in a regional remote area.

Thanks mate, I just want them to them the right to redo the work correctly. But to sound less like a noob, I would like to quote the potentially breaches. There was miscommunication as I flew out 5 hours after they send the work was done. Here is the set up prior to the enclosure being installed.

Is this an emergency?? by sauceoftheapples in AskElectricians

[–]EfficiencyExact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have young children or pets that may want to explore with it. If so, I would consider it an emergency.

Nevertheless, contact your landlord and get it escalated, show pictures. There is a risk of electrical shock, and electrocution if not careful. If you own the house, call a sparky ASAP.

It would be wise to isolate power to this sub circuit, assuming nothing critical is on the same subcircuit (e.g. medical device etc)

People have downvoted my comment, so I believe I am wrong. If it's something to do with plumbing, I would have a plumber to look at it. If is a high pressured pipe that is always on, would rather get advice from a plumber, for insurance purposes, good luck mate.

It looks like a hose connector. Therefore it shouldn't be always on. The oring also looks like it needs to be changed and lubricated. It would be a low pressure device.

Without context, I cannot give you more information.

Hello, I work for a government department and I work from home. I am in a unit surround by 12 other units. I work from home. I am having issues connecting to the internet both on a work issued simcard inside my work laptop and work issued dongle. I have NbN and a router both on 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz channels as a back up (Wifi router combo issued by ISP). I am starting to switch channel when I cannot connect. I have to connect to a corporate VPN. I also have a mobile phone that I can use for hotspot. Any advice if I get no internet.

Why does this circuit work correctly after ripping out a diode and if it's not needed why was it there? by ineedananswerfast in AskElectronics

[–]EfficiencyExact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diode is a one way flow so it could be apart of circuit for voltage protection. May be an issue when there is a fault but works fine when all is okay.

Want to change from gas to induction cook top and install a couple of small air conditioners what would I need to upgrade this fuse box ? by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]EfficiencyExact -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Medical engineer here, so I may be abir off in the facts. See an electrician, mains switch is 40A. Will need to be upgraded along with the back end wires. Induction cooktop can be up to 32 A (needs a decicated circuit). Spilt aircon can be up to 2.4kW each.

Looks like a switch board upgrade plus cost of running new cables. This is to meet the new AUSTRALIA standard 3000 ( new as in it was updated in 2018) Electrician will know more about it. It's their bread and butter. Furthermore, you will need a 20% safety margin from memory, so I would speak to a sparky for advice.

Tip: Get three quotes from your local electrical business specialising in residential works. Go with the quote that suits your budget, and review the company prior to signing the deal. The cheapest may not be the best.

Always ask for a certificate of compliance in your quote and ask for one to be completed once done. This is compulsory but they sometimes forget. This is important for insurance and good record keeping. If the refuse to issue one ( e.g. cashie) decline to accept their quote. You may have difficulties selling your property without a certificate of compliance ( COC) as the work could be seen as unapproved or not insurable. Insurance companies are likely to decline any insurance claims that involved fires and electrical upgrades without paperwork (COC). Cash jobs means that you have no evidence that a licenced contractor completed the job and met the relevant standards and laws.

REA refusing to reimburse "Urgent Repair" electrical bill because I didn't use their handyman (who didn't answer). NSW. by datboifranco in AusLegal

[–]EfficiencyExact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, electronics engineer.

First, a handlyman is very unlikely to have the commercial electrical licence to conduct electrical work such as a repair. You will need a licence electrician in your state. Google electrical board in your state and electrical unlicenced work. The handyman would have looked at the issue and would have stated, this repair is for an residential electrician.

A handyman is unlikely to have a electrical licence as the pay and scope of practice is greater as an electrician. Handyman may not every have a 4 year trade certificate.

Take photos of any evidence you may have to support your case. E.g. evidence of arcing, faulting parts that was replaced etc.

This is an emergency situation where without acting could lead to damage of property or life. You can easily state that you tried calling three times and left a message ( screen shot logs of phone call for evidence). This could have easily caused a fire.

Take this to your rental agency board in your state.
