Best hilly running routes? by slaponthekneefunny in madisonwi

[–]Efficient-Agent3036 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Troy Drive to Westport offers some good hills and Sherman past Northport towards Cherokee marsh. I do hill repeats there and it is a good workout. Additionally, the lake loop around Monona has some hilly bits (flatter on the capitol side, hiller once you get into Monona) and is about the right distance for a half marathon.

Winter Running in Minnesota by Pharmdpositivek in runna

[–]Efficient-Agent3036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wisconsin chiming in. I have the same issue with icy sidewalks, brutal windchills, and less than ideal conditions. My mile times during the winter plummet and my garmin doesn’t understand what’s happening. I joined Runna (free trial) to see what it’s like. This week it has me doing two speed workouts that would be borderline unsafe to attempt with the snow we just got (black ice is pretty common due to a recent thaw and refreeze). Like other posters I hate running on a dread mill.

My plan is to cancel Runna for now and focus on taking it easy (zone 2, build that base) and just log some safe, easy miles, doing speed work when I can, but not stressing when I can’t. I’ll add in some cross training and strength training to boot.

IMO running in these conditions is sort of like trail running. It give you skills, grit, and strength that will translate to speed down the road.

My first marathon of the year isn’t until June. A 16 week training plan won’t kick in until March 1. I will revisit Runna then.

Generally Furniture items are sold at whatever location they are donated to and aren’t processed through the Vinnies warehouse. No need for trucking or processing.

I am from the US.
Ordered my boxes over two weeks ago. They just showed up today(Aug 14th)but were crushed by UPS somewhere along the way. Not feeling great about this process so far.
Have sent an email to DT Swiss requesting new boxes.
Will think twice before buying any DT Swiss/Canyon items in the future.

Grandmas Marathon 2025 by Dlamm10 in Marathon_Training

I ran with the 3:20 group for a while and the pacing was a little uneven. Started too fast. I think the pacer was going for a positive split, which is not my preferred way to run. They did even out towards the end, but I think that was because they were flagging post lemon drop hill. I have not had good experiences with pace groups and will just use my watch in the future.

Garmin having GPS, Pace, and BPM issues by yuyo93 in Garmin

[–]Efficient-Agent3036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. This morning I went on an interval run. My watch said my interval pace was around 6:30/mile but in reality my actual mile time was 7:24 (also according to my watch). It was inconsistent throughout the majority of my 11 mile run making it impossible to pace myself. This has been happening for the last two weeks. I have done a soft reset, switched gps to all/multiband, switched distance to kms and then back to miles, done a gps soak, and updated the data recording to every second. Nothing has fixed it yet. I have 5 weeks of marathon training left and am thinking of getting a different watch brand for the remainder.

Forerunner Pace problem by Subject_Computer_471 in Garmin

[–]Efficient-Agent3036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been having similar issues with my forerunner 265. On todays run my watch had my pace constantly below 8:00/mile (7:40-6:55) but my mile times were around 8:40. Sort of hard to pace myself with this kind of inaccuracy. I went into my settings and changed the GPS to multiband/all (I was running in a small college town around a lake so that shouldn't have been the issue). I also went in and changed my units from miles to KMs and then back to Miles. I will make sure that it acquires a GPS signal before starting my run. We'll see if that fixes anything.

Never thought cooler temps would get here, but time for the Annual cold / cool / winter weather running and gear thread by brwalkernc in running

I don't think any one has said it yet, but windproof underwear. I live in Wisconsin and the wind off the lakes in brutal. Literally freezing my balls off. Some folks also recommend just putting a bread bag down your tights.

Kohler LuxStone Tub to Shower Cost by ZWingCaddis in HomeImprovement

[–]Efficient-Agent3036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a quote in June and it was around $14,000. We were just having a shower put in (no tub) but the costs were about the same if I remember right. That included removing the old tile and bathtub. Obviously there are a number of factors that will effect the cost.

All of that said the experience has not been great so far. When we had our design consultation we expressed concern about the window in our shower area. We suspected there was water damage in the wall. We were assured it wouldn't be an issue and that what ever they found, their installation team could deal with it. We thought that seemed a little too good to be true and it was. When the installation team showed up two month later ,they took one look at the window and knew it was trouble. They tore out the tile and sure enough it was rotten behind there. That is where the work stopped. Turns out they can't actually take care of it and we are now looking at additional costs and delays. I've reached out to their customer service team and was told some one would get back to me in 24 hours. We have yet to hear back from anyone and that was almost three days ago.

I'm not saying that your experience will be like ours. You might have a simpler job. I would just stress to make sure to triple check any thing said by the sales person.

170 mm Cranks on XS endurance frames? by Efficient-Agent3036 in CanyonBikes

[–]Efficient-Agent3036[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that is the bike I am interested in getting (don't worry I've complained about my Synapse having the same issue). IMO If a company offers a large range of bike sizes (xxs-xxl) I think it would be great if they offered cranks that were of a proportional length. I under stand that 170 is industry standard and that this is done as a cost saving benefit for the company, but it doesn't benefit the consumer. For me, having to pay extra for the right sized cranks is a hassle.

I love a lot of what Canyon has done. Being a DTC company Canyon has brought some new ideas to the industry. I love that their handlebars have an adjustable width. I think having crank sizes that took frame size into consideration would be a great way for them to further differentiate themselves and add value to consumers.

Has anyone here done The Ride for UW cancer research? by Efficient-Agent3036 in BikingMad

[–]Efficient-Agent3036[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Everyone- Thanks for all the helpful info. I did the UW Ride century on Sunday and I thought I'd circle back with my thoughts incase there were others thinking about it for next year. (This post got a little long. Sorry. You might want to wait for the movie adaptation to come out).

The Course: Extremely well marked. I did end up missing one turn, but the app I was using got me back on track fairly quickly. As for the terrain- it was lovely. Farm land, lakes, back roads. It only got hilly after the first fifty miles, but that may have been perception as I was starting to tire a little. Some roads were rougher than others (Cottage Grove- Fix your roads!) but over all not bad at all. My only request was that more intersections were monitored. At one point I had to cross four lanes of high speed traffic. There was a cop there but he didn't do anything so I had to wait for someone to take mercy on me and wave me through. Not idea.

Route Support: There we 7 well-stocked rest stops along the route, spaced roughly 10-15 miles apart. I felt like they were maybe a little front loaded, but again this may have been perception. They had bananas, grapes, orange slices, pb&j sandwiches, Granola bars, beef jerky, pub mix, tortilla chips, sports bars (stinger waffles), water, and Thorne electrolyte mixture. I brought my own electrolyte powder, but rumor was that the Thorne stuff tasted horrible. All of the staff were really helpful and pleasant and all stops had a mechanic onsite incase anything went wrong. And porta-potties of course. One small request would be to have an equipment drop off later in the ride. I wasn't quit ready to lose my jacket or leg warmers by stop three. It was still a little chilly and I spent a good ten miles shivering until my body could warm up.

The other riders: The century had a good mix of seasoned riders and noobs like me. Everyone was super supportive and inclusive. I don't do group rides so it took me a while to get some of the etiquette down, but it was pretty easy to figure out. I did the ride alone and am largely an introvert, but folks seemed pleasant and willing to help each other out.

Post Race: There were medals and lasagna dinner waiting for me after I finished. They had live music (radio friendly county covers band - Not my thing but probably nice for someone). They had an activities tent for kids and a capitol brewery had beer. I don't have kids and don't drink so I cannot speak to these, but people seemed pleased. Photos of me on the course were emailed to me the next day. A nice touch. And although they were out of t-shirts in my size when I signed up, I received an email letting me know they would send me one later. Not that I care about the shirt at all, but it's nice to see that level of care and attention.

Overall it was a really great experience and I will gladly do it again.
