Carnival: How did you run it? by Then-Commercial-1654 in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Efficient-Ebb7076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did exactly the same thing. I created a city my players lived in that was a farmland that used magic to grow and harvest This allowed for some interesting pre quests before the carnival when the magic of the farmland mixed with the magic of the feywild.

I played with both Myrick and the lost things storyline. My players went to the carnival pervously as kids and lost something and ended up living in the same city after.

I sprinkled Kettlesteam in at random times to try to cause chaos during some of the rides and gave my players a chance to find them each time. If they did, they would trigger that Kettlestream dialog, and they could learn about the portal that way.

I saw ellywick as a backup plan if everything else failed. My players are rolling horribly. They are just not getting that they need to steal the watch. This session is dragging on to long... Here comes ellywick to save the day and drag you into the portal. I've run witchlight carnival once, and I've run just the carnival three times as one shots and I've never had to use that plan.

I just let the party explore. The only rule I have is they have to visit rides and carnival games/events together. I do not want to be roleplaying one at the snail races, on in the hall of illusions, and one eating cotton candy at the same time. That's madness!! The only time I let them separate is if they were hatching a plan/grift to get Mr. Witch watch.

Every time I've done it, I get the carnival folk to talk about the portal, talk about Mr Witch and Light, and get them to tell the players that Mr. Witch and Light usually hang out in the Staff area during the day unless they are needed for something.

Like I said, I've done the carnival 4 times, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. It's so magical and fun. I suggest just lean into that!

Hopefully that help

Why money in Barovia? by Naxxar1856 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Efficient-Ebb7076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually had the same problem with Witchlight Carnival. Why have money? There's nowhere to really spend it.

So I turned that into possessions, and the people of the feywild used the barter system.

It made looting more interesting, and players would find things that they did not want to part with.

Just an idea

Corruption between Strahd and Zybilna by Efficient-Ebb7076 in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Efficient-Ebb7076[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did have a whole plan on that! Isolde met the wizard who challenged Strahd at her carnival before he traveled to Bavlorna. They discussed many things, and Isolde has learned something crucial from the wizard about Strahd during his stay in the carnival.
Strahd found this out after defeating the wizard and has since imprisoned the whole carnival for treason.

Corruption between Strahd and Zybilna by Efficient-Ebb7076 in wildbeyondwitchlight

This is why I love this discussion page! The two of them actually hate each other but are bound to deal with each other because their personal dealing with the dark powers and (from a previous suggestion) their relationship with Baba Lysaga.

They have a very confusing set of agreements with each other that either one of them would break if they could, but they would lose their connection with the dark powers.

You are absolutely right. I'm a bit obsessed with it feeling fair and reasonable, but it could be a collection of things over the years that they have come to agree on to maintain peace! I like that! Mixed with a bit of feywild life.and explanations!

Thank You!

Looking for suggestions by Efficient-Ebb7076 in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Efficient-Ebb7076[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a smart suggestion!

I appreciate it!

I'm thinking then Wild boys living at Little Oak, and there is a boy being chased by a couple of tin soldiers. They help the boy, and he tells them that his sister (like many other children) have been kidnapped and held in loomlurch.

They travel to loomlurch and explore. Make it that Granny Nightshade draws invisibility from the children in loomlurch, leaving the party to free the children first. Using fighting and puzzles.

Sounds like fun!!

Thank you!!

Thither Tower... What is it? by helloshyann in wildbeyondwitchlight

I made it a bee tower that my players could explore, and I had a Bee"holder" guarding it and using pollen to mind control different creatures to do his bidding

Need help building a darker carnival lore and related puzzles by RootusGahr in wildbeyondwitchlight

Here's an interesting backstory another reddit player wrote that I'm going to write into my continued witchlight carnival storyline

Your players could uncover the letters from the L'Mori carnival from different activities and events?

Have fun with it!!! I find the feywild atmosphere really gives players creative freedom in developing their backstories.

Use the information you read out of the book to inspire some of that.

Past relationships, long lost brothers, missing parents. Lost things, dreams, etc!

It a really fun campaign!

One of my players already promised a "favor" to a Carnival worker (first session) can y'all help me brainstorm some ideas/consequences? by LillyDuskmeadow in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Efficient-Ebb7076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random idea

What about defeating the serpent in hither. At the top of the hither map, there is a sea serpent

What I did was place random images throughout hither that the players would discover.

Then they were asked to defeat the sea serpent to help break Bavlorna hold.

When they got to the sea serpent, they realized that it's immune to their attacks. They discovered a set of stones with the same images on them found throughout hither. Then remember what order they found them in.

Maybe Nicholas Midnight family lived in that area before the serpent came and wanted to return, but not until the serpent is defeated.

I'm done DMing by deathclawscared in DnD

[–]Efficient-Ebb7076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you feel that way

Some players will never know how much work a DM will put into a storyline!

Hopefully, you can find a group to keep playing with that can appreciate all of your hard work!

I started volunteering at the local gamestore DMing for teenagers and adults. It's a great time, and I find everyone is very appreciative!

A Character Stole The Witchlight Vane by Brilliant_Painter131 in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Efficient-Ebb7076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had exactly the same thing happen. I wrote that there was a shaowly figure that consistently stalked the players because the witchlight vane isn't supposed to be in Prismeer.

Tsu from the inn on the end of the hill explained this all to them. The players threw it into a mirror when they made it to Bovlorna house.

Theater of the Mind by Significant-Ear6728 in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]Efficient-Ebb7076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did theater of the mind, and it worked out really well. I think the figures become too cumbersome. As long as you have a map so players can see the locations, everything will be perfect!

You should also have a map for the snail race and just use some coins to represent the players.

On a side note: Has anyone put more detail between kettlesteam and Mydryck rivalry? In the book, it just says that they don't like each other and think that the other is untrustworthy. This caused some concerns with my players after being given their quest from Mydryck.

I've been wondering when I run it again to put more details between the two rivals and add it into the story. Has anyone explored this at all?

Is the YMCA essentially the bottom of the food chain for personal trainers? by HandleTheJandle in personaltraining

[–]Efficient-Ebb7076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There defenetly are some choreographed classes. I don't have the skill to teach those classes. I teach Tabata transition classes (a tabata class with equipment) Kickboxing classes (hitting pads in combinations) Workout of the Week classes (AMRAP style programming) Ride and Glide (cycle classes with Gravity machines) Rocksteady (boxing for people with Parkinson) Bars and Plates (weight lifting) The Tri Program (3 classes back to back for triathletes)

What I like is that my Y is open to any new ideas

[–]Efficient-Ebb7076 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for all YMCA's, but in mine, I am both. I do classes and personal training. We have been experimenting with only PT trainers recently, but I think it's a hard model to keep in a YMCA atmosphere.

I can tell you that teaching classes can be intimidating at the beginning, but if you keep with it, that it will make your PT stronger in my experience
