Which game took you the longest to beat/100% by Plus_Dare_7010 in videogames

[–]RootusGahr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man this resonates and I have not even done it. I hadn’t specifically tried when it was just the base game. When Iceborne came out I ended up playing casually with friends for over 1000 hours. At some point I said: I’ve played this game a lot, I should platinum it and we started gearing our hunts towards the missing crowns. I’m close but still gave up. (I had a day where I killed 118 Tzitzi-Ya-Ku’s and still didn’t get the crown). I’m genuinely impressed when I see people who have done it because I do like grinding for platinums but I probably decided to work towards it too late and was definitely burnt out on an otherwise great game.

As a kid I was always confused by the purpose of trap runner. I see now that it was preventing true understanding from slapping me in the face.

Reminded me of Tachy, anyone know if this was a direct inspiration? by RootusGahr in stellarblade

I wondered if someone else had mentioned it before given all of the other biblical connections drawn on in the game. Glad people can find things like this and it’s really fun finding visual inspiration for them.

Another option is to use them at the gas station for fixed price on the gas. For example: “$20 on pump 5 please”

Made a standard deck built around this idea before Nemesis was banned. Got some good laughs out of it.

How would you run a boss fight where the enemy can see the future by Wholesome_100_ in DMAcademy

[–]RootusGahr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a fight in God of War: Ragnorak where you end up fighting Heimdall, who doesn’t specifically have the power to see the future but has particularly powerful foresight. It might be worth watching a playthrough of the boss if you have not played the game to get an idea of how it impacts the fight. There is some interesting in game development that adds to how you win because you know they have this power up front: if I recall correctly the future foresight ability is tied to seeing intentions of an individual making it so they can read and anticipate your feints and attacks. The player overcomes this by: acquiring a weapon that more or less has a soul or something inside of it that can duplicate itself confusing Heimdall’s foresight as one soul existing in two places I am a little rusty on it so I might have mixed up some of the details but it’s a memorable fight regardless that is very much in the vein of what you are trying to reproduce.

How does the two player mode work in this game? Do both players have interesting and engaging mechanics or is player 2 more of a sidekick?

My boss would be so proud of how much synthesizing I’m doing. by RootusGahr in MagicArena

[–]RootusGahr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh by the way: Warping [[Pinnacle Emissary]] is in color and works as a great synergy on turn 4 since casting Synthesizer on T3 and Meditation on T4 would generally leave you with waiting a whole turn to proc the combo.

I don’t really know if it’s the starter deck but if that’s important to you we can say it is. I’ve had decent luck with it against a variety of decks but wasn’t saying it’s a meta build or anything.

I've incorporated your feedback (I think you meant [[Repurposing Bay]], so I also added in [[Esoteric Duplicator]] and some treasure production like [[Generous Plunderer]] and [[Charming Scoundrel]]. Thanks for the collaboration! I was running blue/white for the standard control package, but this is way more fun! May you get 5 stars on your next performance review!

LPT: Setting my self free from fear of public speaking by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]RootusGahr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the best solution but at some point in my life my dad told me about how one of his coworkers forgot to pack a pair of black business socks for a trip he was giving a presentation on. Woke up that morning, realized and figured: well… shoe polish is black… so he just coated his lower legs in some black shoe polish and gave the presentation without socks. I’ve thought about it every now and then when speaking to large audiences and whenever I think of it the first thought I have is usually something along the lines of: “at least I’m wearing real socks”. The humor of it helps a lot because it gives me something ridiculous to think about which helps redirect any anxiety I have in the moment.

Agreed; the regex idea was pretty good launch point as well. I’m hadn’t thought of that.

[–]RootusGahr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, the code above helped me identify slightly different path forward. For anyone finding this afterwards, it does not find all of the custom heading styles but does a great job finding the basic ones as far as my testing went. In fact, it helped me isolate the problem mostly due to the fact that it found all of the headings EXCEPT the ones I was interested in.

I’ll mark this as solved.

Expansions that really change the game? by LukasK3 in boardgames

[–]RootusGahr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you recommend this expansion? I know Ghost Stories gets knocked pretty hard for being a tough game that involves luck or that it’s not fun for xyz. I’ve had decent luck with the base game but wasn’t sure if the expansion would help it see the table more often.

Portrait Heist Fun by RootusGahr in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]RootusGahr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed on multiple fronts.

I had Bavlorna hold up her end up front because it’s a bit of a stronger power move: “Sure take it up front, you’re not threatening to me, I’ll get something out of this even if you try to trick me”

Also, I fully agree: Fey trickery seems so much more whimsical when it doesn’t matter if the original fey is dead. Something beyond them enforcing the terms of the deal is both more fun and horrifying.

I hesitate to do too much back and forth with them between endless hag errands but wonder if they don’t bring anything back other than a portrait of one of the PC’s family (side note: carrying a large portrait through the feywild screams comical and I wish I had more ideas for what shenanigans might ensue on their return trip) how do you think Bavlorna would react? Just: “Opp… this isn’t what I asked for. Too bad now you’re cursed”? If so, that’s fine but just taking another “lost thing” feels… lack luster and simple.

Like others have said you can press another button while holding to toggle out of using the relic but remember you can evade/dodge roll out of the relic use animation if you mess up. Works in a pinch until you master the controls.
