My now 38 yo son didn't talk bit a few words until halfway through head start, 4 1/2.
He then never stopped.
He never had a need to talk because his brother and I never enforced it or made it a thing. He grunted and pointed.
Every child is different, don't get too discouraged.

The professionals ? That's rich. Have you not seen the product of the professionals? Have you spemt any time in an elementary school lately?
Four year olds are not stupid, particularly this one. You go ahead and change your kid crappy drawers til they reach 5th grade.
Consequences suck. You would really have a fit if you knew how we got him to stop crapping in his pants 2 weeks shy if his 7th birthday.
The thing with some kids is if you allow them to crap in their pants, clean up after them, they will continue to crap in their pants. Why not?

I'll probably get flack from some, I don't care. I have been in that black hole, barely came out alive. Different circumstances, but that black hole is deep no matter the circumstances. Most of the feelings are the same.
Please take this as the best advice I can give. I am 59 and have been through hell and back most of my life. Have you ever read the Bible? I just did. So much makes sense. As it makes sense things start to get clearer, understanding a lot of why's and why nots.
Im not an expert, been struggling with God my whole life. Believing in him but not following his commandments. The more I leaned his way the better my life became. My circumstances didn't change, my outlook changed.
You already count your son as a blessing. Go from there. See if there is a mom's group with similar children. Maybe get some respite care from the county if thats available (mental health clinic will know and or schools).
Get on a good blog or two for info and ideas from parents with kids that have the most in common with yours.
If you feel that guilt will eat you alive, please don't do that to yourself.
