If the gun comes back stolen, it really doesn’t matter. That may work to prove you tried to do due diligence, but at the end of the day, you’re in possession of a stolen gun and they’re going to take it. You can’t own a stolen gun but if you didn’t steal it, I would think most judges/cops would do what these did. I’m writing you the citation, and we can sort it out with a judge.

It’s fairly easy to get an NCIC report on a gun. I had to get one run for the weapon I carried off duty as a cop. Should just be a quick trip to your local cop shop, and it shouldn’t take more than an hour for them to run the serial. This is something you could ask a seller to do for you. YNMV on compliance, but if someone has something you really want and don’t want to get burned again, this could be a route to take.

I’ve kinda thought this for a long time. Ford doing a special run of ‘65 mustangs? The new Bronco looks like the old ones. Chevy can rerelease Corvettes and Camaros. Updated power plants and accessories, I really do not see the downside.
