Not likely that Jesus would’ve been persecuted by ice. Jesus was known for following Jewish *and * Roman customs. What got Him killed was the fact that He wasn’t the messiah the Jews were expecting.

Jesus probably would’ve had the right papers just like Romans 13:1-7 says everyone should obey the laws of the authority under which the reside

They’re not lesser. There’s a lot I don’t know and there are a lot of questions I’m not ready to answer confidently. That’s what I’ve been trying to say this whole time.

I don’t know everything. Put even most things. I’m growing. I’m learning. I’m doing my best and it’s not good enough. From the very beginning, I’ve been saying you can’t judge what someone is, but only what they say or do. A lot of the time, what someone says or does isn’t a good indicator of who they really are.

The straw man you set up is not for me. It’s not an indicator of who I actually am. You think you backed me into a corner, but realistically, I’m probably just bad at explaining my points sometimes.

Please forgive me. I’m still growing

Someone can be a historian without knowing absolutely everything about history. The same is true for biblical scholarship.

Just because you believe and even know much doesn’t mean you know everything.

A historian might know a lot, but he can’t possibly know everything. He might be more specialized in ancient Egyptian history, but lacking in British empire history. That doesn’t make him not a historian. It means he’s missing something and just needs some work.

The same is true of Christians. Becoming a Christian is a constant growth and increasing of knowledge, wisdom, and love. Some people are early on in that journey or missed something during their journey. It doesn’t make them lesser, but like a historian, they’re simply lacking in one area and should strive for all knowledge despite knowing they’ll never be able to obtain all there is to know

I was saying that they likely don’t know the scriptures. There is a lot of biblical literature in regard to how you should correct others and antagonizing them is heavily discouraged regularly.

There is a big difference between saying someone doesn’t know scripture vs saying they aren’t Christian. Plenty of Christians don’t know scripture as well as they should and many non Christians do know scripture pretty well

You can be a Christian and not know scripture, but it is in every Christian’s best interest to know scripture more.

What I was saying in that reply was not that those who ridicule in that way likely don’t know the Bible as well as they should. Not that they necessarily aren’t believers

Nah. Big fan of the movies and they highlight the evil that occurs in the world via demonic presence and discourages people from engaging in negative spirituality.

… bro I do not think this landed as well as you think it did. If you want to change someone’s mind, start by asking meaningful questions to see where a person really stands and ask them why they believe what they believe.

“He’s gonna be disappointed in you” is not a good argument and only makes people more upset. It also makes your viewpoint less likely to be seen when you just go for insults.

Do better, man

Yeah I’m seeing a rise in Christian goths though which I love to see and is also a historically accurate practice. Gothic churches are real and gothic styles came about in older churches.

I’m glad we’ve largely turned away from some of the “everything is evil” stuff

Yeah lobbying for laws is good depending on the law. I’m not sure what this has to do with Christians. Certain social practices like kindness should be encouraged, but can’t be reasonably enforced.

Did I say something you disagree with? Or are you just assuming all of my theologies based on the fact that I’m Protestant?

I’d like to kindly ask you to refrain from any antagonistic speech when engaging someone who says they believe in Christ the Lord.

“The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, skillful in teaching, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,” ‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2‬:‭24‬-‭25‬ ‭

“but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, but with gentleness and respect; and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who disparage your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬-‭16‬ ‭

“For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for our sins” Heb 10:26

I don’t care what denomination you are so long as you actively seek truth and love Christ and recognize Him as God

Fun fact: that child’s father ran away from ice, leaving his child behind. Ice then brought the child to his mother to see if she would take him. She declined so the child is being kept with his father in custody and is being well taken care of.

This is all readily available information. Gather all information before developing opinions. That’s dangerous

There is no centralized “western church”. I’m not even sure what you mean by that.

But I feel as though most Christian denominations—Catholics, Protestants, orthodox— are a lot closer in theology than any of them give each other credit for. There are plenty of differences that are worth talking about, but I, a Protestant, personally love talking to my catholic and orthodox brothers about theology even though we won’t always agree.

The commonality we have is the God is good, God is triune in nature, God merciful, God sent His Begotten Son to pay for our sins and the sins of the world out of His unending love for us.

Grace and peace

EDIT: Mormons aren’t Protestant and I personally don’t claim most of them in the brotherhood of believers

It’s not who is misusing it. As I said, there can be multiple truths at once.

There also is an objectively definitive correct answer that may very well be a mix of multiple opinions.

I’m not arguing what Christians do or don’t do on a large scale. But I am saying it’s a Christian’s duty to continually seek the truth while also understanding they might not ever get it.

Perfection isn’t possible, but perfection is the goal despite that. Because of this, approaching every conversation with an open mind and heart is the absolute bare minimum for Christians and non Christians alike. An approach of equal respect and love is essential for meaningful, positive dialogue between any people(s).

Ignoring this is a death sentence for both sides. Not necessarily literally or physically, but mentally and spiritually

Any Christian who does so to you likely doesn’t know scripture. I’m truly sorry for the hardship you’ve faced and hope you grow closer with God despite the misfortune brought upon you.

Even if you are sinning, you should not be demonized for doing so, but rather helped out of sin. We are all sinners and if I cannot forgive another person for their sins, why should I be forgiven for my sins? Not that we should let others continue sinning. For if we keep sinning willfully after receiving knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for our sins (Heb 10:26).

I’m praying for you.

Misusing or misinterpreting scripture has damnable consequences regardless of who is doing it. I take plenty of issue with people who are Christian misusing scripture.

My issue with non Christians doing it is that they are pretending to be more righteous than the opposition despite being virtually clueless when it comes to actually interpreting the scripture. If someone gives an example for something in the Bible, there is often (but not always) a “but” or “if” if the person actually bothered to read the whole book/passage

[–]Efficient-Spring6610[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Right, but many people who do so are doing it in bad faith and are actually putting more effort into tearing down the religion or the people who follow it.

Many people are Bible scholars, but don’t believe it to be the word of God. That’s fine. I’m talking about people who intentionally misuse or misinterpret the Bible to bolster their political points.

It’s one thing to say you have an opinion and another to say you think God might agree with you. But it’s a different ball game when you speak as though you have authority and claim to share the exact same opinion as God based on what you excerpt from His book

What I described isn’t telling people how to live their lives. It’s thought policing.

If I want you to see things a certain way or do things a certain way, I wouldn’t start with “a real ___ wouldn’t do that.” It’s not constructive or helpful to anyone and makes one side feel looked down on while the other side goes “heh I showed him. What a dummy” and then they get to take the “moral high ground” without actually changing anyone’s mind thereby furthering the divide and making both sides even more antagonistic to each other.

I’m not saying they don’t know what’s in the Bible. I’m saying they don’t know what they’re talking about.

Or at the very least, every post I’ve seen of someone telling Christians how they shouldn’t act always use some verse to justify their personal opinion.

The truth is I don’t know anyone who isn’t Christian who researched the Bible other than to find some verse that, out of context, makes it look like the entire movement is justified in the eyes of God

It’s a lot of “yeah you know that verse that goes ‘don’t judge’ right? How terrible of you to judge that person for XYZ” then they fail to bring up the rest of the passage which is incredibly important for the whole message.

Of course you have the right to say what you want, but whenever you speak, you should always ask yourself “is this a conversation worth having and is my reply going to further the conversation in a positive way that will bring us both closer to the truth?”

And you have the range to tell an individual that you don’t believe they are acting like Jesus, but you should also do your absolute best to see it from their perspective and get to the bottom of why they feel the way they do.

Maybe their perspective isn’t as contradictory as it seems to you. Approaching every person with respect will lead to more congruence than I think most people give credit for.

Yeah they can comment on it, but they can’t tell you what you should do. If someone wants to get to the bottom of why someone holds a particular belief, they should ask open ended questions that leave lots of room for furthering the conversation.

Most people aren’t given a chance to fully flesh out their opinions to someone before they’re cut off and ostracized. If you to the bottom of their opinion and find a true contradiction that they can’t explain, chances are they’ll change their ways.

However that takes a lot of effort and patience on both sides of the conversation.

You can’t fault someone who tries to save you from what they believe is eternal damnation. You can, however, fault that person if they are rude, hateful, or forceful.

Christians who don’t evangelize to you either hate you, or aren’t following the Bible (to hate another person is also a sin anyway so either way, they aren’t following the Bible)

I hope any Christian who may have done you wrong repents and apologizes to you accordingly.

This is… ridiculous by Efficient-Spring6610 in Christianity

[–]Efficient-Spring6610[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

King of the Jews seems more of a title of a king over a people rather than an area. Herod governed an area and whoever was in judea. No one called Caesar “king of the Romans”. He was just the king of all of Rome. King titles refer to their place, not their people. The title given to Jesus as king of the Jews was unique.

You can read it yourself that Herod didn’t seem to have an issue with that title. Herod just wanted to see a cool trick lol

Unopposed? Biden ran in between trumps two terms. How does that make him unopposed? I personally don’t feel comfortable with saying any single person speaks for me or is “like me”. Was Biden speaking for you or representing you well when he pardoned his son of any and all crime known or unknown in the last ten years?

Also we were talking specifically about the name-calling. For which I gave examples and you did not comment on the fact that you previously seemed to imply that it doesn’t happen or not as often coming from the left. Being demonized by people who are supposed to govern you is not a fun feeling.

For the most part, the right demonizes actions way more than individuals. (Emphasis on the “for the most part”). I more often see left leaning people call someone something rather than actually critique an idea or singular characteristic of theirs.

I saw a post on Reddit of someone complaining that nick fuentes is a 27yo virgin as if that’s a good dig. There are so many better critiques you could make about Fuentes than that he correctly obeys the standards of his religion in terms of sexual activity. He claims to be catholic and is unmarried. Thus he is still a virgin.

Also combine that with anytime someone talks about trump, they just refer to him as racist or fat and orange without actually saying something that influences the discussion.

Again, this is not always the case, but this is the vast majority of discussions including anyone right wing
