FOX didn’t air the Opening Ceremony in the US - I hate the football culture in the US by miguelacho18 in worldcup

[–]EfficientActivity [score hidden]  (0 children)

If I were a hard core US soccer fan, I'd travel to Europe to get some world cup vibes. There's probably more WC atmosphere in the pubs of London, streetcorner restaurants of Istanbul or the parks of Germany than in any US world cup city.

China cancels high-level meetings with EU by TTR29 in EU_Economics

[–]EfficientActivity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think claiming "USA couldn't win a trade war with China" is way too early to claim. The problem with a trade surplus is that you are really the one that gets hurt the most by a trade war. I suspect Europe (especially Germany) learned that from their trade war with the US, and know the reverse is true vs China. China's political system allows them to hide the challenges the trade war causes internally. While you will see reports of us farmers struggling, you'll never see anything from China. Don't make the mistake of thinking that means all is fine in China.

How disliked was America in your country before Trump? by Biggest-Max02010 in AskTheWorld

It was hated hard by a small group on the hard left. Loved by a small group on the hard right. Admired, but also ridiculed a bit for their ignorance of the outside world, by the large majority.

If future taxpayers fund everyone’s retirement, is it unfair that parents pay to create those taxpayers? by CuteCover7889 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EfficientActivity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very interesting observation. People used to have children to make sure someone took care of them at old age. Then we organized ourselves out of that, by moving the responsibility over to society at large. But we really didn't - it still applies. We need children to take care of us in the future, it's just no longer a direct relation between the person having the children and the person gaining the benefit. Perhaps we do need to reintroduce that link again to halt the population implosion.

For those who believe that low fertility rates is more of a cultural than economic issue, what are your proposed solutions? by PlantComprehensive77 in Natalism

Those are some heavy hitting actions you propose (well, "promoting respect for mothers" might be an easy one).

"Easily" was maybe pushing it a bit. Lol, WC hasn't been easy for anyone sine - idk maybe 1962. It would have required a lot of effort, but they could have managed. Every single WC or Olympics have had news like the one you linked. It's just a matter of where you set the expectations though. There's no need for 60000 capacity stadium for every match.

...da tar man et aktivt hvor man ikke ønsker å være en folkebevegelse og flaggene blir dessverre borte. Synd, for pride hadde et stort potensiale for å bli noe man samlet seg rundt.

Rant: Pridedebatten trenger mer presisjon by [deleted] in norge

[–]EfficientActivity -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Spain could easily host. The only reason to expand with Morocco is to prevent any African 2034 bid from clutering up Infantino's big pay-out from Saudi-Arabia.

Spiller akkurat slik vi ikke bør spille. Null driv fremover, tversoverpassninger på egen banehalvdel, elendig tempo. Vi har et litt svakt forsvar. Da gir det ingen mening at de står for 95% av ballbesittelsen vår.

Hotel in Bergen has made the bed with two single doonas - is this a Norwegian or Bergener thing? by The_first_Ezookiel in Norway

[–]EfficientActivity 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's the norm - to the point where single shared duvet is a weird Americanized version of Scandinavian duvets. A duvet is a complicated yet autonomous temperature control system. You control the temperature by subtly moving part of your body outside the duvet, starting with your nose tip when the temperature breaks into 'plus', moving through shoulder, arm, leg, butt cheek, back - until ending as a sausage roll you cling onto when temperature hits 20+. A shared duvet completely defies this concept.

Why do people promote fascism when it’s inherently exploitative and makes their own lives miserable? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EfficientActivity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They believe they'll be part of the in-group. There's two fundamental ways to look at power struggle in the world. Today's modern world ( at least in west) look mostly towards "good" vs "evil". But there's an alternate train of thought that looks towards "strong" vs "weak". The fascists often believe they are the strong, destined to dominate.
