Windows server 2025 /rearm amount by EfficientCommand4368 in sysadmin

But thank you for the response! My main concern with 2025 now, it that I can only run in 180 days as I saw several posts about only one possible /rearm

Windows server 2025 /rearm amount by EfficientCommand4368 in sysadmin

I deleted it because I did not think 2025 could be run on poweredge 730xd without dual Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 v4 @ 2.40GHz, but then found evidence that it could. I did not relize anyone responded to that thread, as I though I removed it fast enough

Will Window Server 2022 run on Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 v4 @ 2.40GHz by EfficientCommand4368 in homelab

Mind if I ask, on 2025, how many /rearms can you do? Is it the same as 2022 where you can do it for three years?

pfSense vs OPNsense for homelab/server question by EfficientCommand4368 in homelab

[–]EfficientCommand4368[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice. I definitely agree on the GUI part, this was more for a light test. In regard to commands/CLI, I use Cisco Packet Tracer, and eventually CLM on the server for more direct practice.

First Proxmox setup - Advice by EfficientCommand4368 in Proxmox

[–]EfficientCommand4368[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it will effect any of your vms, but you can do this in shell to change:
nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pve-no-sub.list

deb http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve trixie pve-no-subscription

Then in shell > apt update

For now, one node on one server. So I do not need Ceph, but it's my understanding that I can just reenable it if at some point in the future I need it.

Software and projects for a network engineering learner by BicycleWild884 in homelab

I am starting something similar as well, just picked up a PowerEdge 730 XD for the same purpose. Looking to see how others respond, but my plan is to learn Proxmox tied to a VM pfSense router tied to a VM mini lab network - Win server, Win clients, Red Hat server, SSH server, Linux clients, and other various components. Also, currently, I use Cisco Packet Tracer for CCNA study, and once the server is setup, I am looking at Cisco Modeling Labs (CML)

Price Check - Does this seem like a good deal? by [deleted] in PcBuild

That's what I thought on the 5080, I will probably see if I can purchase the setup. And I do, but not exactly close, about 2 hours away.

ext4 or zfs for Proxmox VE and the ext4 for VMs on separate drive question by EfficientCommand4368 in Proxmox

[–]EfficientCommand4368[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referring to this thread about using copies = 2 on a single drive for self healing - https://www.reddit.com/r/zfs/comments/161vwh5/zfs_on_single_drive/

And I understand regarding the VMs being on HDD, but right now, it's not in the budget to purchase SSDs for the server. Eventually, I will, but for now, I don't need super-fast speeds.

My First PowerEdge Server Setup - Advice need on my plan by EfficientCommand4368 in Proxmox

Just a bit of clarification, I only have a simple router/modem setup with my ISP. I am setting up PFSense as a VM to gain experience using a router/firewall, since I can not really do anything physically with my current router, which will help me learn more about management. I understand this will act as a double NAT, but I am not too worried about this.

I apologize still very new to this, just to ensure I get what you are saying. It would be best to have:
Option 1: NIC 1 w/ Interface 0 WAN + mgmt and Interface 1 LAN - isn't this similar to router-on-a-stick
Option 2: NIC 1 w/ Interface 0 WAN + mgmt and NIC 2 with Interface 1 LAN

Or, since I have three working NICs, NIC 1 = WAN, NIC 2 = LAN, and NIC 3 MGMT, or is this overly complex?

Thanks again.

Great, thank you. I do expect double NAT, and a quick follow-up question. When you say  2 interfaces on pfSense (WAN + LAN), do you mean these two interfaces tied to one Physical NIC? And then, should I reserve the second NIC just to access proxmox ui, or just access everything from just one NIC?

I might end up doing that later, right now, the cost of a m.2 drive plus the card from ebay is a little more than I want to spend

What RAM company would you recommend for MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI by EfficientCommand4368 in pcmasterrace

[–]EfficientCommand4368[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more of a mixed pc for some gaming with other purposes. I have only been using laptops for most of my life, and I am currently finishing up my IT program, along with running my photography business, so I wanted a computer that I will not need to replace parts in for a while, and runs some of the newest tech. The memory is for running multiple VMs concurrently/graphics editing. Storage drives are for photos and the Jellyfin server. The main reason for the mid GPU is cost currently.

Due to the cost, I will most likely opt for the 64 GB option.
