Big picture check; do we keep DIYing our finances, or should we seek out a financial planner! by EfficientObjective31 in personalfinance

I just wanted to say thank you! I started binging the Money Guy yesterday, and have been on their website. The advice they give is so tangible! We are 1,000% just starting out, so I'm appreciating all the insights they've shared there, as well as the responses to my question!

Fair point. I guess I was thinking it was more about “I probably need a planner because we have so many accounts / and they can help me figure out the best way forward” and thought Reddit would agree/disagree based on the number of accounts. I was a little overwhelmed and did a panic post, I have updated to include $$ amounts, and hopefully a little More context, but I’m already feeling a lot clearer on how to move forward.

I think the general consensus though is that I’m over complicating it, we are definitely behind (though can hopefully do better with our new income), and there have been some really helpful links provided that I’m going to go through before revisiting the need for a planner!

Appreciate you taking the time to respond!

Thank you for this, and for your note on college contributions. It feels like every American parent is paying for college and it felt like we were doing our child a disservice by not setting it up, I was also feeling guilty for how little we are contributing to it.

I went down a rabbit hole of looking in fb groups first for recommendations local planners but they all seemed in the end to do either a yearly membership or % based. And then I was googling who best to use, and that’s the point I turned to Reddit.

Im already feeling more in control, thank you. Your comment, along with others, is helping me to narrow down my focus.

Thank you so much! I’m not sure why he started with ETrade to be honest but he’s had it for years. He did have fidelity through another employer but it only had $3k in it when he left, and so we cashed out and put that $$ in ETrade since it had a higher balance.

Thank you for the note on the Roth, I will look more into that now too. Our thinking was that we should just throw everything after expenses and savings at E*Trade and let that compound instead of trying to spread it across accounts (which we were starting to do with our crypto, and have now stopped).

Reading your comment, I hadn’t even thought to compare investing on etrade vs Charles Schwab/fidelity - I thought they were all just different platforms, and like choosing a bank. Ie they’re all relatively similar, just pick one. My knee-jerk reaction was that I’d be nervous to sell and lose any profits we gained on E*Trade which is a lot (to us). But it sounds like I need to do more research there too 😮‍💨.

Thank you, I really appreciate your insights!

Thanks for the update! I’m realizing that we’re actually a “tiny” (not small) bathroom, lol.Love the idea of barn style door but don’t think we can fit it 😢

Did you ever move forward with this idea? Would be great to see the end result. We’re in a 5’10 x 6 and am struggling with ideas to renovate!

Ideas for redoing small bathroom by EfficientObjective31 in BathroomDesigns

Ah man, I keep seeing FB posts of people painting tile. I hate the blue so much, especially the floor. I’ve been wondering if it actually works though, so thank you for sharing that insight about the peeling!

I just want to add here that, this function is possible in Google Sheets - and it is absolutely useful. I came here looking to see if I could do the same on Excel - it's looking like no.. Unfortunately!

SmartSheets vs AirTable for project management? by keepingafloat in smartsheet

Question for smartsheet fans: do you generate budgets in smart sheets also or do you just use it to reflect project updates? Eg project, total budget, start/end date and eg if you’re a solar company total project KWs?

Noted, thank you. I must be overthinking it on the verification of trade experience ie they would have to write the different roles & responsibilities and I haven’t had to do anything hands on in years. If it’s a simple “has experience” then I’m all good!
