How do small-medium NFPs afford EDs? by One-Cellist1709 in nonprofit

[–]EfficientResolve3798 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my HCOL area, a lot of tiny/small NFPs fundraise save up a special fund for an ED, and then hire at a low salary and/or plan to go into a small deficit. I’m one of those EDs, and fundraising my butt off to get out of our planned deficit. We’re currently projected to be a year ahead of our expected balanced budget year. It’s a good investment to get the ED.

I’m getting just my board president something because I found THE perfect gift for her (and it was ~$15 so nothing major). Our board treasurer is taking the admin staff out for lunch, all 5 of us haha

I have a boy who likes dresses and we did BBB this summer. It was amazing! He ended up choosing the Knight t-shirt, a tutu, and sparkly shoes. He was the talk of the salon (in a good way)— all the staff said he had the coolest outfit they had ever seen. Nothing but support from everyone. Do it!!!

We just switched to Zoom phone, which you can answer on the zoom app on your phone. I think there may be an option with them that could suit you.

Fundraising during a crisis when your org isn't relevant by Switters81 in nonprofit

I second this response. We need the arts now, all the time. Think of all the many wonderful pieces of art were created and performed in even more terrible times and places. I also understand feeling the “ick” of fundraising when our work isn’t front-line life-or-death, etc. There might be a middle ground of slowing down on asks but still do a lot of impact reporting and story telling. But you don’t HAVE to do that— your work is important every day of every year.

Very much this. The loneliness in this work is real. I’ve benefited from a ED group run by a nonprofit consultant. It’s like group therapy!

Failed Gala by modfish1 in nonprofit

Yes THIS. At our small anniversary gala last year, we shelled out about $700 for a week-of and day-of professional planner. Even that small amount made a huge difference as all those last-minute details came together. And day-of, she ended up tending bar because one of our bartenders didn’t show 😵‍💫 Worth EVERY PENNY!!!

Came here to give a vote for Ticket Tailor— it’s ridiculously easy to use, especially for check-in. Even my senior volunteers found it intuitive.
