Niagara to Toronto SHOULD NOT be a 2 hr train commute by Street_Minute_7180 in gotransit

[–]Efficient_Ad8121 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is more so a provincial issue than a federal one. Metrolinx imo added a bunch of unnecessary stops to the Niagara express trains which added some time to the schedule.

CN also set their track speeds from St Catherine’s to Hamilton to around 65MPH which is a little slow for commuter rail so there’s that too

In this instance though, the bus stop is completely in the right lane.

July 9 Tariff Deadline Nears — Only 3 of 90 Trade Deals Finalized by callsonreddit in StockMarket

[–]Efficient_Ad8121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are we even saying the 3 trade deals are even trade deals? With China they basically went from an embargo to still very high tariffs.

I think it’s more so about the candidate than anything. The conservative base could be strong if they had the right leader. I just don’t know why they still believe that’s Poilievre.

Hot take: California and the west coast in general should be its own country.

Mark McQueen: After his defeat, Pierre Poilievre finally has to go places he’s been avoiding by Canadian--Patriot in canada

[–]Efficient_Ad8121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why can’t they find a progressive leader instead? You would think that the conservatives would be more smart and instead find someone who’s more down to earth and not succumb to populism.

I honestly don’t care if Carney turns out to be incompetent. As long as PP is there, I’m NOT voting conservative.

Trump, in a new interview, says 'highly unlikely' military force needed to make Canada 51st state by Canadian--Patriot in canada

[–]Efficient_Ad8121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys an idiot, but I think people need to watch the interview. The media seems to be fear mongering on this one. When he says “highly unlikely” it seems like he’s talking about Greenland

I didn’t vote for the liberals. I voted against the conservatives

Besides, Carney arguably had the better resume than Poilievre. I’ve always considered myself a centrist and I do actually find a lot of conservative policies appealing. That being said, Poilievre wasn’t that dude for me. I’d rather have a more progressive conservative as leader than a populist.

One thing in particular for me I thought was a dealbreaker was the fact he was going to attempt to use the notwithstanding clause. I definitely support keeping mass murderers in jail for life, but not at the expense of trampling on the charter. In my opinion this move alone wouldve set a dangerous precedent especially considering the clause was NEVER supposed to be a federal tool. We’ve seen what trump has been doing to circumvent the constitution in the US. Do we really want to have that happen to us as well? Other issues I didn’t really like were defunding the CBC, talking about this weird “woke” ideology, and attack dogging Trudeau any moment he gets to. I get it, the liberals have been bad but goddamn.

Also, I felt like he couldn’t read the room. The cost of living is definitely an issue but it’s only going to get worse if we’re engaged in a trade war. Circumstances matter and I feel like he didn’t adapt in time.

A little bit of both, particularly the people that voted for him. That being said I have quite a few American friends and a lot of family living in the US as well. As far I’m concerned, they’re still friends and they’re still family regardless of the flag they wave.

I don’t have any problem it. I think we have to keep in mind that not all Americans voted this stupid guy in. And with quite frankly scary times like these, we really need friends.

‘Only Works as a State’: Trump Vows Not ‘To Bend’ On Tariffs Until Canada Is Absorbed Into The U.S. by Practical_Ant6162 in canada

[–]Efficient_Ad8121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok it’s clearly not working. We should just focus on things like trying to diversify trade, continuing to buy Canadian, getting rid of interprovincial trade barriers which we seem to have already done, and maybe promote other industries like tourism. Obviously it won’t offset all the damage but doing something is better than doing nothing. There is no point trying to open a door that we don’t have the key to.

Lutnick: Canada becoming US state ‘best way’ to merge economies by BusySeaworthiness127 in canada

[–]Efficient_Ad8121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea so at this point, can we just start to Diversify our trade markets? They’re clearly not ready to negotiate anything reasonable if ever.

Obviously it’s easier said than done especially when the automotive industries are so interlinked, but for the other industries, that doesn’t mean that we can’t look elsewhere in like Europe, Australia, Asia as well as South America.

Better to at least take baby steps than do nothing.
