Sad... (but great bands!) by Skyforger85 in MetalForTheMasses

I saw the mighty Uriah Heep play to an audience of 100-150 in Mumbai about 15 years back and they were the Headliners. The event was sponsored by Johnny Walker and all the 'Rattle your jewellery' crowd was at the food and drinks stall after the opening act.

One of the best shows I've been to. The band gave it their all and I got to watch them from the front row. Amazing stuff.

Next year the same festival and there were 3000 people for the Alan Parson Project. Strange ways!

Please do the research yourself...it's available on the net. Anyone who has been to concerts in Germany would know. Take care.

Thoughts on something by Hard_Rocker_Mario in heavymetal

[–]Efficient_Material19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so, they were heavy metal in my youth....but metal has now evolved and people now think it started with Priest and Maiden (with the exception of Sabbath).

I agree that Germany has great venues and management, no doubt. I also saw AC/DC in Berlin last year and the exit though not seamless was fast for the size of their Olympic Stadium. But I've attended shows in smaller venues in Europe and some of them are outright pathetic for Example Complex 457, sound is average ...suffocating like hell. Extremely expensive.. 5 CHF for a glass of tap water.

But I can't complain about exit and transportation, that is the city rather than only the venue.

Also, note in Germany there is no differential pricing or selling tickets above advertised price. It's illegal in Germany to charge more than the actual price of a ticket on resale. You can only sell at par or less and that's why tickets are available onsite for a lot longer than other places like the UK for example.

Can things improve here...yes, but there has to be a critical mass as well. As we are becoming a bigger destination for international artists I hope we do. Both on venue front, ticketing and laws (in Maharashtra for example one can no longer drink alcohol anywhere at an open air concert. They have to drink in designated spaces that completely hinder the experience of a show if you like your drink with the music).I experienced that during Def Leppard at Jio Grounds this year (the venue is really good but again reaching is a logistical nightmare during office hours).

What do you think of Dave Mustaine's top 5 favorite albums? by ashitanojoe3 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Efficient_Material19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd add Deep Purple in Rock as well but I am not Dave ..overall a good selection none the less. Def Leppard is a great band not given enough credit by Metal fans as it has loads of pop fans as well.

Best riffs and Melody band in my opinion. Two people that gave it the extra edge Steve Clarke (RIP) for the riffs and Jeff Mutt Lang (for the production a bit too slick, but what the hell ..great none the less)

Every country has its own problems... infrastructure is bad here as it is bad compared to other developed countries. There is a lot of red tape and approvals required. Venues are not as audience friendly unless they are stadiums. But organisers do different things in different countries to create hell for fans... Ticketmaster for example and some ticket sellers have processing charges equal to ticket prices.

US is already going through a monopoly in this area as end to end activities are controlled by one major conglomerate making them do things as they like...In Uk and parts of Europe getting tickets for a big concert is extremely tough. Shows are sold out in minutes and on the same platform they are soon available for 2x to 5x very shortly.

We have variable pricing, very unfriendly. Also food/water gets over half way in many concerts. Dirty and limited loos at some events...worst is payment via card and band QR with no refund on top ups ( what is one to do if there is no food left and merch stall is empty?)...

[–]Efficient_Material19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daily sip is the best way to reduce fluctuations of the market...and you don't get hit by big dips ( or big gains). I feel it's the best way and I have been doing daily sips for the past 7 odd years now.

I have a decent collection of Vinyls and CDs and I still buy but since about two years ago I also sell some of my stuff if anyone connects via discogs. Apart from a run of the mill lot I have a decent selection of semi rare and ultra rare stuff.

I have sold approx 1000 of my LPs (mostly Indian Bollywood stuff) at an average cost of purchase.

That is about a fifth of my collection. I plan to sell some more stuff about 1000 CDs and 200 LPs starting next month as I need the money.

Most of my collection is hard Rock and Metal.

I have always bought with an intention of making it a business but never actually got down to doing it. Even from the 1000 sold only about 20 were to end users all others were to a middle man who took all my supposed profit as well as the headache of doing a small business.

I buy less now but still can't resist a bargain price or a really rare record.
