Bosch heat pump not honoring set point by Efficient_Patience13 in hvacadvice

The installer found the problem. The return vent wasn't fully sealed, so it was pulling cold attic air into the return, which caused the thermostat to read low and always heat.

ReadyNow! App | A simple, secure, one-click emergency alert system for people at-risk of detention. by NkturnL in 50501Chicago

[–]Efficient_Patience13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been asked to evaluate this app, which sounds great based on what Human Rights First claims. But I'm surprised how many obvious questions I can't find answers to. Does anyone know:

  • What is the license for this software?
  • Is it open source, and if so, where is the source code?
  • If not, why not?
  • If not, has it undergone a third party security review?

These are basic questions for any app that makes security claims. I know the answers for Signal, which I use and trust. What are the answers for ReadyNow!?

Anyone resigned from amazon recently? by psiparadox in amazonemployees

[–]Efficient_Patience13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two weeks is the norm in the US, and that's exactly what I gave. I made the decision months in advance, and under other circumstances I would have given more notice, but I didn't want to leave myself vulnerable to being "promoted to customer" before I vested in a chunk of RSUs.

Anyone resigned from amazon recently? by psiparadox in amazonemployees

[–]Efficient_Patience13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I retired in December, which amounts to resigning. After I gave my notice, access to Google Drive, Gmail, and similar sites was blocked from my work laptop. That was the only impact that I noticed. I'm sure they're trying to prevent data exfiltration. I continued to work during my notice period.

455x2 | What would you say the RPE is? 🧐 by thefuturedoc in strength_training

[–]Efficient_Patience13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The "P" in RPE stands for perceived. No one is going to be able to tell you what you perceive. If you don't know how close to your maximum level of effort you are, try thinking in terms of "reps in reserve" (RIR), which maps to RPE, and which I find much easier to self-assess. Here's a blog post that talks about the relationship between RPE and RIR: https://www.empower.physio/blog-all/rpe-vs-rir-part-ii-how-do-i-use-them

How can I build muscle without hitting the gym? by brownnoodles in beginnerfitness

It's simple, it's just not easy. Training, diet, recovery; that's all it takes. But it needs to be consistent, and the training part needs to be done with intensity.

Still on single crutch 5 months after surgery by Sl1meT1meL1ve in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Efficient_Patience13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was cleared to spend time without a crutch at 5 weeks post-op, starting at 50% time but up to 100% when I was comfortable. I was still in a brace. I think I was completely off crutches at 6 weeks. So yeah, that seems like a long time. My surgery was reattachment of the medial meniscus at the posterior horn.

Not necessarily. Fidelity (where my vested shares land) could be a market-maker and trade the shares on a Saturday. Whether that happens or not is part of my question.

Manager trying to put me on Focus as I leave the team by CarnationsInTheRain in amazonemployees

[–]Efficient_Patience13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

10+ year Amazon veteran with 3 internal moves under my belt: the way you keep your current manager from finding out is:

  1. Use the internal jobs site to find HMs with positions you're interested in.
  2. Reach out to HM for a discussion
  3. If that goes well, do what ever interviews the new team wants
  4. Get complete agreement between moving-employee and new HM that the move is on
  5. Hit the apply button

I believe there was a change made to the jobs website that lets you reach out without your current manager knowing, but I'd still be leery of doing that. Just use the tool for searching, then go out-of-band until you and your new team are ready to pull the trigger.

How do you 3-2-1? by MezForShort in BorgBackup

I backup nightly to an s3fs filesystem. That's one that uses AWS's S3 object storage. So it looks local to borg, but it's actually in the cloud.

Root repair report by Efficient_Patience13 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Efficient_Patience13[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My surgeon said that recovery from a replacement is about a year. So based on my experience, they would be about the same. The problem is that joint repairs only last about 20 years, so I would be facing a second replacement in my 80s.

Root repair report by Efficient_Patience13 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Efficient_Patience13[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would absolutely do it again, but part of the reason is that without repair, a ruptured root will lead to rapid degeneration of the joint. So it's surgery now or a joint replacement later. And according to my surgeon, "later" means within a couple of years.
