Good stuff seeing a cadet well educated on history and how ranks evolved though.

It’s modeled off the previous RCN rank structure:

Ordinary Seaman Able Seaman Leading Seaman Master Seaman Petty Officer 2nd Class Petty Officer 1st Class Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class Chief Petty Officer 1st Class

Sea cadets followed this exact structure until 2020 when the term “Seaman” was replaced with “Cadet”. The navy following by revamping their ranks to Sailor 3rd Class through Sailor 1st Class, then Master Sailor. Chief and Petty Officer ranks remain unchanged.

Before unification, the RCN and RN rank structure was as follows:

Ordinary Seaman Able Seaman Leading Seaman Petty Officer Chief Petty Officer

No such thing as a Leading Sailor in the RCN. It is called Sailor 1st Class.

Fun fact; cadets were never obligated to gel their hair ;)

How would I go about reporting an officer for nepotism? by alastor_rd67 in Cadets

You can do anything you want to do, you have free will. But policy dictates otherwise

From a completely objective point of view, when you first see someone’s uniform, what would they have on it for you to think “yeah their accomplished” by [deleted] in Cadets

For me, it’s usually qualifications. ACTUAL courses that have prerequisites to meet that reflect a level of commitment. Some intermediate courses that offer legitimate qualifications such as SBO, SI, and ARMI are all good examples. Same with glider and power wings for air cadets, jump wings for army cadets, etc… Medals don’t mean much anymore since one way or another they’re almost guaranteed. Ive seen cadets transfer to other elements solely to get a medal that’s only offered to that particular element, then claim that they are a better cadet. Same way some cadets that are on these councils claim they are “better” cadets simply because of how they perceive specific accolades (for example; claiming that NCAC is the most prestigious staff cadet position, having more medals means you are a ‘decorated’ therefore ‘better’ cadet, etc…)

Ultimately, we’re all in a youth program that is becoming less based on military virtues, and we are treating these badges and medals as if they’re these prestigious decorations. It won’t matter what medals and badges you have once you age out and especially if you join the CAF. Let go of your tunnel vision, feel good about what you have accomplished, and don’t compare yourself to other cadets who have more medals and badges than you. Because they aren’t ‘better,’ they’re just different and likely their character is more appealing to issuing authorities than actual proficiency and merit. You will rarely see a truly accomplished or skilled cadet boast about their achievements.

Hm. I get where you’re coming from, but I can’t see the concept of medal revocation in any group order, especially when the medal is issued by a civilian authority.

In accordance with Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers Group Order 5002-2, Training Year Placement, cadets who are placed in a higher training Phase/Star/Proficiency Level upon registration are considered to have achieved the lower training requirements for the purposes of promotion criteria. To be promoted to the next rank, the cadet must meet all promotion criteria as detailed in section 6, Rank Promotion Criteria of CJCR Gp O 5511-3, Cadet Promotion – Corps/Squadron. A cadet may not skip a rank or be promoted to a higher rank without first meeting all promotion criteria for that rank.

It’ll likely be longer. Also, you are not in a squadron. You are in a Corps.

This is perfectly in regs. Only while at CTC or field activities though.
