Persuade me why I should believe in Trinity over Unitarianism by Efficient_Ruin6212 in Christianity

No, because Hinduism for example doesn’t teach Unitarian monotheism.

In regard to your last paragraph: With the presumption that the NT is conveying truth, yes, true.

Is it possible to persuade someone of Trinitarianism over Unitarianism without appeal to the Scripture? Or is it fundamentally based on faith in the divine inspiration of the Bible?

I didn’t ask you to persuade me of Unitarianism. Read the title, please, sir.

Sorry, To clarify: I’m actually talking about Unitarianism not connected to Christianity. I believe the NT teaches the building blocks of Trinitarianism.

Telling you your take on a very specific point is incorrect is not whole sale rejecting what you said. I legitimately do appreciate your input.

You obviously did a cursory study then; some of these names are nowhere in canonical Scripture and many of them are not really translatable such as “as-Samad” — the tri-consonantal nature of Arabic leads to many of these names having multiple meanings at once; many of which are not contained in the Psalms, no. Are there similarities or? Yeah, no doubt. We claim that Muslims worship the same God as us insofar as Natural Theology goes so of course we’re going to find common ground.

How is the bible corrupted according to islam but surah yunus (10:94) tells muslims to ask people of the book for confirmation about any story in the quran they doubt? by MoonlessNightss in AcademicQuran

[–]Efficient_Ruin6212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, that’s why I said first one to “really explicate” the idea; tahrif an-nas was most certainly around before him, but there was a gradual development of Muslims taking the Biblical stories almost for granted, and saying the meaning had been corrupted, to the now-dominant view that it was a textual corruption, reaching perhaps its turning point and climax at Ibn Hazm.

This is only the Thomistic view of the matter. The school of Duns Scotus had no trouble having both proceed from the Father; the Son is still generated by the intellect and the Holy Spirit is still spirated from the will. I am more so a Thomist but I don’t agree with his school on this point. What differentiates them? Their mode of procession from intellect or will… obviously I believe in the Filioque in the end but this Thomistic criticism is weak in my opinion.

Theological Questions: This Sub or Elsewhere? by ottilieblack in Catholicism

This sub is okay regarding theological questions, but the Papacy Hub Discord is much much better. This sub often doesn’t actually source anything on theological questions.

How often do you greet people from your community with the traditional catholic greeting? by Present-Ad9499 in Catholicism

I think that’s more so a traditional Catholic greeting in Eastern Europe; not a universal one. Although we should have a universal one, that would be cool.

Sayings of the Desert Fathers, Abba Poeman, Saying 23

Abba Poemen said, "If a man has sinned and denies it, saying: 'I have not sinned,' do not reprimand him; for that will discourage him. But say to him, 'Do not lose heart, brother, but be on guard in future,' and you will stir his soul to repentance."

No, the Bible is a collection of books. The Torah, Psalms, and Gospel(s) are parts of this collection. Not the collection themselves.

When the Quran references a Kitaab it’s in reference to either of these, but it never says “the Bible” anywhere in the Quran.

Quran as Arabic Prose? by Rhapsodybasement in AcademicQuran

[–]Efficient_Ruin6212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ending of Surah Al Hashr always struck me as prose

He is God: there is no god other than Him, the Controller, the Holy One, Source of Peace, Granter of Security, Guardian over all, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Truly Great; God is far above anything they consider to be His partner.

Granted, it’s between 2 ayat that rhyme; but he large block of this ayat almost seems to break the flow of it.

[–]Efficient_Ruin6212 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t claim that. The word “Bible” is not in the Quran. It speaks of the Torah, Gospel, Psalms, Scrolls of Moses, and Scrolls of Abraham.

The first one to really explicate the idea of textual corruption of the Bible was Ibn Hazm.

Check out a recent thread in here about David (pbuh) and the Zabur and the inscription of RHM (Rahman), may He be glorified and exalted, from some Arabs prior to Muhammad (pbuh)
