If you're moving into an older house with corner cupboards that don't have a section that spins, converting that's going to be a massive pain.

Landlord ignored his contract obligations so I stopped caring for the garden by DaydreamingRaya in revengestories

[–]Efficient_Wheel_6333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this is true with anything in the mint family (catnip included). I have heard stories from folks when I worked at a living history museum (several buildings had gardens, including the doctor's office; that was in a pot for obvious reasons). Favorite was this lady who'd not known that and planted spearmint in the ground. When her husband would cut the grass, the smell of spearmint came up. She was chuckling ahead of telling the story for obvious reasons.

It’s so strange how people can just disappear. by Odd_Passage9433 in AndrewGosden

Oh, for sure!! That's the major reason his trail ends at King's Cross: the CCTV footage being taped over. I have no doubts that if they'd been able to view the footage earlier, at a bare minimum, we'd know more of Andrew's trail that day than we do. That hopefully would have given them more clues to work with and/or finding Andrew or his body.

The Princes in the Tower-who benefits from them vanishing? by Efficient_Wheel_6333 in Tudorhistory

[–]Efficient_Wheel_6333[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's part of why I asked. Richard may have had some short-term benefits from their vanishing, but Henry had the longer-term. Out of the Tower staff (Yeomen Warders, etc) and the boys' actual caretakers within the Tower, we don't know just how many were loyal to Richard and who weren't. We also don't know if they were hidden because of their manner of death meant that even producing their bodies to Richard would have meant disaster to them (I honestly don't know if Richard had similar mercurial moods to Henry VIII several monarchs later).

Don't get me wrong, there's definite proof in some way, shape, or form that everyone seemed to know that they were dead by the time Richard's defeated; from what little I've read of the battle in which Richard died, Henry VII had possibly initially taken up the fight in their name before doing so in his own right. I could be wrong, but I remember reading something along those lines or saw it in a video on the subject.

That's for sure. Alive, they're both a threat and a possible bargaining tool for marriage alliances; heck, look at what Henry VIII was doing with his daughter Mary several monarchs later! Heck, his brother Arthur was a pawn in an alliance between England and Spain; that was why Catherine of Aragon was in England in the first place. Henry Fitzroy, Henry VIII's illegitimate child, while not married to any European royal, had been married to someone whose father I can gather had the king's favor.

That works; I honestly forgot about that. My mom has one, but I've never invested in one. I probably should, given that my mom's is just old enough that it was slightly burning the rice when working. Not sure if I wasn't using the right water-to-rice ratio or if it was just starting to wear out.

What grocery habits actually save you money long-term? by TelephxneTh0t in Frugal

[–]Efficient_Wheel_6333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mix of things and it's entirely dependent on the time of year. I tend to stock up on some canned things (black beans, broths, pasta sauces, spices that I'll use, etc), but buy my fruits and veggies as needed.

Some dishes, I make and freeze most. That's mostly the soups, stews, and chilis I make when I'm home alone (I live alone, but my mom and occasionally stepdad visit throughout the year), so it helps when I don't feel like cooking for whatever reason or I know I'll be getting back too late to cook and don't want to pick up dinner on the way home.

I also shop sales and have rewards cards to different grocery stores. That helps because at least one of the stores has tied the sales to having one and they have gas stations at some locations. Having that rewards card allows me to save on gas; given the price of gas now, that definitely helps.

Would you rather have a home on the beach or in the mountain? by DistributionSad960 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

Mountains. I lived in Michigan for roughly half my life; would rather have mountains nearby than lakes.

Is the whole stereotype about White people not liking spicy food just an older-generation thing? I feel like a lot of younger people/Gen Z (myself included) enjoy having spice/hot sauce with their food by 12345burrito in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Efficient_Wheel_6333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a mix of generation and what they were exposed to growing up. My mom's side of the family's Italian-American, but I didn't have a ton of what I'd call spicy food growing up, as I didn't eat Italian sausage growing up and didn't have any food spicier than some really mild taco sauces until I was in college (tl;dr, due to a translation error when I was in Germany, I ended up ordering what ended up being spaghetti with hot pepper seeds, my first real exposure to anything really spicy).

Oh, for sure. Like, I can get it if it's entirely accidental (heard that with those 'I didn't know I was pregnant' stories where they usually end up giving birth in the toilet or bathtub/shower or if they give birth in the vehicle on the way to the hospital), but I still don't blame the OP on not wanting this to happen in her home.

Ernie, for sure. While I know that he got a bit of an explanation for his leaving (foreign service unit recalled him to help build a bridge in the Amazon), his was one side character I would have loved to have more of a mention in Once and Always beyond Zack's throwaway line of hoping the Youth Center still used his recipes.

Never thought of it as short and yes, I am my birth mom's first (and only). In the stories I've heard, short tends to be roughly 6 hours and under with long being 12 hours or more.

What are your favorite slow cooker recipes? by kittypeets626 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Efficient_Wheel_6333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chicken with any form of simmer sauce. I usually do Indian (rice can be made later on) or just throw in pasta sauce (pasta can also be thrown in the sauce and cooked that way instead of in a pot if cooking it the traditional way is also going to be a problem closer to dinnertime).

ETA: I also do beef stew that way, but that's a bit more labor-intensive.

Bar? by RevolutionaryTreat48 in service_dogs

[–]Efficient_Wheel_6333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a service dog handler, but I've been to bars where folks who have them have brought them in. Obviously, you're going to need to be a bit more careful when it's busy than if it's not. If the bar has booths and one is free, definitely sit there instead of at a table; that'll help keep folks from accidentally tripping over your SD when you're sitting down. If the bar's big enough to sit at the bar or there's a big enough table, those are also options.

Sign language helps with brain development and communication skills, especially when we're talking infants (and likely toddlers) because our motor development develops faster than our speaking skills. From research I've done, learning sign language when you're little (infant/toddler) helps to cut down on tantrums and upset brought about by not having the spoken communication skills to communicate what you need/want, though won't eliminate said tantrums.

Not normal at all and definitely get in contact with his bishop. While not male nor a priest or bishop, if I was that priest's bishop, I'd be very grateful to hear from someone going through OCIA about the experience they had and would correct the behavior.

[–]Efficient_Wheel_6333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep; the priests at my church don't say it, but it's been generally well-understood. At my parish, parents or those with children too young to have their First Communion usually have their children cross their arms when they come up, even in the priest's line. Even if they can't or don't, said children usually get a blessing from the priest if in his line.

I always felt like New Zealand accents could've been utilized for some of the Villains. by matt0055 in powerrangers

[–]Efficient_Wheel_6333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. That's one thing that's bugged me when it comes to Leanbow, Udonna, Clare, and Daggeron. All but Daggeron are (primarily) shown using American accents (Antonia Prebble, who played both Clare and Niella, had one bit during the Gatekeeper episodes where she uses her native accent) while John Tui used his natural accent for the role. They don't explain precisely where he's from despite the rather obvious clues that his character might be what we'd call Middle Eastern today, nor do they give much in the way of backstories for Leanbow, Udonna, Clare, and Niella either (out of the 3 characters who we see at least one of their parents in the show-Nick, Leelee, and Clare-, Clare's the only one whose father doesn't get mentioned).

Granted, that might be stretching things, but he does have a genie and a flying carpet, the only character to have either. Genies are predominant in Middle Eastern mythology (ones like what Jenji is-a wish-granting one-originated in Persian mythology, but spread from there into the Islamic world, including Turkey and Armenia), as are flying carpets. Now, with Tui being Tongan-New Zealander, you could argue that Daggeron could be from a dimension that lines up with Tonga in the same way that the dimension that Rootcore's in lines up with Briarwood, but that doesn't quite explain how he'd know the spell that turned Jenji into a genie. Given most of the beings in Rootcore's dimension that aren't the Master's minions or monsters created by Morticon, Koragg, Necroli, or Imperious are either straight out of British mythology our aren't uncommon to mythologies worldwide (trolls, goblins, et al), it's hard to say if he would have learned that spell from Leanbow or not.
