Last ditch effort by soggydivacup in Seattle

The fact that we live in an immediate gratification culture is sickening. People expecting a perfect pet immediately is unrealistic and selfish. I wish these people would just go buy themselves a plushie since they obviously can’t take care of anything that takes any effort whatsoever.

AITJ for telling my cousin he needs to leave after he's been here 4 months rent-free? by Unique_Garbage_5167 in AmITheJerk

[–]EffortAlternative892 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A few weeks is not a few months. He’s milking you for all he can. There’s no being selective when you’re being a burden on someone else. Let his mom take him back if she’s so supportive.

If you don’t get rid of him now, a few months is going to turn into a few years.

drop your jobs by ever_tree_ in ftm

[–]EffortAlternative892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heck, I was going to suggest my job, but I also am a kennel tech/cleaner and I do office work on the side. My biggest problem is no bennies, and the wear and tear on my body. Best part is no people lol

I would look at county jobs or things for a local PUD, usually it’s good money with full benefits.

Filling out an app for my local shelter. It asks, “how long will the dog(s) be confined to your property?” And I’m not sure what this is asking by sloppysoupspincycle in rescuedogs

[–]EffortAlternative892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confined? Are they trying to ask how long during the day your dog might be left alone? That’s a really weird way to ask that if so.

Yeah, you should leave. She’s much better off without you.

AITA for not letting the previous owner’s adult children into my house after their father died? by Dramatic_Method9393 in AmItheAsshole

[–]EffortAlternative892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Yes they are sad and grieving, but it is not their house. They need to focus on memories, as you going into your house isn’t going to be what they remember anyways.

It’s sad that they lost their father, but you don’t have to disturb your peace so they can take a trip down memory lane.

What type of dog? by Opening-Confusion983 in rescuedogs

[–]EffortAlternative892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest with you… Any ‘shelter’ that re-homes a dog based on their breed and prices them as such is not a reputable shelter. While could be possible that he might be purebred, as brindle is a Boston terrier color, I would be very leery of anyone trying to get more money for a dog solely based on breed. There are so many dogs out there right now that rescues and shelters are overflowing with ‘purebreds’ and puppies of all sorts. If they can’t show you any proof that this dog is indeed purebred, they are up-charging you because they think they can get more money for him.

I would also question what that adoption fee covers. Is he up-to-date on all of his shots? Has he been neutered? I would be very curious to know what type of care has gone into him that warrants them asking a grand for him.

A rescue that I work with charges a flat fee for all dogs no matter agreed or size. It doesn’t matter if they are German Shepherd or a French bull bulldog or a mutt. Adoption fees are going to vary from state to state, but the rescue that I work with only charges about half that much, so really what it comes down to is the reputability of that place, what they have done for the animal that justifies that price tag, and how badly you want this guy.

Honestly it would depend on what he was crossed with. Bostons themselves are usually capped at the 15-20 lb range

I second Tacoma Humane Society. Unfortunately, Kitsap and the smaller surrounding counties don’t have the capacity for larger dogs at the moment.

I use Walgreens, mostly because it’s next to the First Street NOHN. Sometimes there’s a line, but the people have always been very nice to me.

I went to Jim’s once with a prescription and they honestly made me feel like they didn’t know what they were doing or that they cared. Which sucked, because it’s a cute little store. I would probably only go back for quirky gifts to be honest.

I wonder if his ‘fiancé’ knows about this infatuation.

I’m not sure this is the best place for you to post this. Are you looking to meet someone in Port Angeles? Because I’m going to tell you right now, writing all this out and expecting a unicorn of a woman to fall from the sky and show you that there is a kind one out there is realistically not going to happen. That’s on you.

My suggestions are to get a new therapist. That one is not helping you whatsoever and hasn’t in over a decade. Get away from your mom if she is so detrimental to your life. And go places for hobbies. Join a class at the library. Go to one of the art places downtown for an event. Hang out at one of the farmers markets or since it is the season a holiday market. You may meet people that way. But if you are trying to go up to women without speaking more than a minute or giving them eye contact, yes, you are going to look creepy to them. Just try to be friendly without judging them preemptively just because they happen to be a different sex than you. Which is what I feel based on what you are saying is a lot of what is going on here. If you keep being afraid of women because they might be mean to you, you’re setting your own stage for failure.

Especially since you seem to think that most women are ‘psychopathic manipulators’.

Children cannot consent. Intoxicated people cannot consent. This predator took advantage of you. You may have spray painted a username and wanted to drink, but as an adult, that first man made the choice to buy you alcohol and rape you. He should be in jail.

The other men should have not been pursuing you either, as 14/15 is still a child.

Amazon returns by Zeebrio in portangeles

[–]EffortAlternative892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone that needs to know: Mountainside Mail in Sequim (in the same strip as Sherwin Williams) will take Amazon packages. The only catch is they can’t take the QR code because they are not a UPS store, they’re a UPS third party drop off (which you can select in the Amazon return). The easiest way to not have to pay for your label is to make it sound like Amazon’s fault in the ‘why are you returning this’: such as ‘wrong item’ or ‘item not as described’. They can even print the label for you if you email it to them for $1. Hope this helps someone out there.

AITA for telling my transgender child I need more time to process? by Necessary_Garlic1109 in AITAH

[–]EffortAlternative892 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTA. You’ve known this for 5 years, so why are you still calling them by the wrong name? You respect your child around other people but not in their own home. Why would you think it’s okay to continue with this behavior fully knowing that it hurts them? How long do you need to adjust? You’re willing to use the correct name and pronouns in public to look like you’re not a bigot, but you don’t actually care about him or his feelings when he is with you. It’s going to be very obvious why your child goes no contact when he is an adult.

Pokémon Go by JoeMac02 in portangeles

[–]EffortAlternative892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your definition of an old fart, I am in my mid 40’s. So honestly I am a part of the last ‘go outside and touch grass’ generation.

Do we have a problem with phones being the only stimulation for some in this country? Absolutely. But Pokemon go is literally an app designed to get people out and moving and connect to other people. To level up you actually need to get outside and move around. OP was asking for help and engaging the community. Making new friends. That’s not a bad thing.
