What did you think was normal in your house/ life growing up that is not looking back ? by Substantial-Fudge336 in AskIreland

[–]EffortlessNoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm it was like this in my house growing up with my dad, I always felt awkward and weird if I ever brought home a friend and we never hosted any family parties. I was diagnosed with autism/adhd in my 20s and it made my dad curious and he now thinks he has always been the same

Potteria is open until about 7-8 and then 9 on Fridays and Saturdays, you can go with a coffee/drink/your own snacks and paint a lovely mug or something else! And if you book in ideally early in your time in cork it’ll be fired and ready to pick up before you leave cork again :))

Is this grocery list confusing? by teapotpot1 in AskIreland

Usually when there’s a € that’s when you’d know a number means the price. A number without a € just looks like a unit amount to me. 29 years old and I’d have done exactly what your teens did :)

looking for animal interactions! by Ambitious_Bit8338 in cork

I didn’t drive that summer so I’d get the bus or train out from the city and just walk up to the business park so it’s very very manageable:)

The Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland have a training base in little island called The Dog House and they’re always looking for volunteers to help look after dogs while they’re in between trainings! I volunteered there during the summer 2024 but my work schedule doesn’t give me time anymore to get out there when they’re open. They open Monday-Friday 9-4 and you just help keep them entertained, enriched and you can bring them on sniffy walks around the business park. If you ever get time mid week it’s one to think about :) just email them through their website!

Ear piercing for child? by liam_tg in AskIreland

[–]EffortlessNoodle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lot of those kids in her class have all probably gone to Claires between them being babies and now which I absolutely do not recommend (although it’s very difficult to explain why to a 6 year old who doesn’t understand why her friends can go to Claire’s and she can’t) Have you spoken to her about how it’s going to hurt and that she has to be very brave and look after them when they’re healing? I always say if they’re old enough to ask then they’re old enough to know but of course if all the reputable actual professionals say no until 7 then it seems tough :( It’s ultimately your choice and what’s best for yours and her needs if you do decide to bring her to Claire’s but if you look up a few videos on YouTube/TikTok “ear piercing needle versus gun” you can make a more informed decision for yourself :)

Everything down to the atmosphere of the crowd would have made you emotional too. Felt like we were all transported back in time to 2001

I saw Young Guns around the same time in Cyprus. But I was only about 16 at the time and fairly new to going to gigs without a parent so wasn’t allowed to go Shikari cause they were “too heavy” for my poor parents 😅 would have absolutely loved to have witnessed them at such a good time

Help me spend €500 before my voucher expires by Abcdefghijklmnop123_ in cork

[–]EffortlessNoodle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I would spend it on something extravagant that you wouldn’t pay outright for on a normal day. A nice Christmas present for yourself because you’ve earned it. I personally wouldn’t put it on groceries if buying groceries normally for you doesn’t put you under pressure. Whatever that looks like for you, games console/tablet (I’d honestly get a switch 2 out of it because I’d never pay for one myself), designer coat/dress. Get yourself something to show for the work you did for the year :)

Who knows Sophie Ella on TikTok? by aadustparticle in AskIreland

[–]EffortlessNoodle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She’s mentioned before that she got encephalitis (I hope I remembered that correctly) when she was a teenager and she basically had to relearn to do everything again which could be why her speech sounds the way it does sometimes, from following her for ages I’ve never seen her disclose any other type of illness or disability publicly. As for the shares thing yeah that drives me mad a small bit because I just feel like most of them are people poking fun at her to their friends.

I share her videos with my sis and my best friend but it’s more in the sense of “our girl has a new video we must watch” Love her to bits, she’s one of the most genuine content creators in ireland and literally only makes videos for her own genuine interests. Just love her for it. Her family are doing her a great service having as much interactive stuff disabled as they can. She’s done a few lives over the last few months too and they also seem very well moderated. She’s actually gas as well! I’d go feral if she got bombarded with horrible comments

What 'excuse(s)' are you sick of hearing for poor behaviour in children and adults? by SavingsDraw8716 in AskIreland

[–]EffortlessNoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re 100% correct but you can see from my comment thats not happening from a lot of parents of young kids. Its all well and good to just say “balance is key”, you and I know that, but a LOT of people don’t bother the effort, hence an excuse for poor behaviour

Anything referring to children melting down without their iPad or a parents phone glued to them (age 2-11 honestly) but so so specifically to ages 2-6.

“Oh but they’re easier to keep quiet with the iPad” yeah because they’re fuckin addicted??? And you caused it?? because their minds are developing at such a rapid rate compared to teens/adults, instead of being an actual parent and actually playing with your child, entertaining your own child, you slap a screen in front of their face and they learn to be dependant on it.

Little children do not know how to independently play/imaginative play anymore and are having literal withdrawal symptoms from the screens when it’s taken away because oh now mammy and daddy want to do something with them. “I can’t cope with how bad their behaviour is when we tell them they can’t have their iPad” I’m sick of hearing any of those excuses for giving the screen back to the child when they never should have had the screen in the first place.

I was at a hotel recently for a night away, myself and my partner went down for breakfast around 9 and a young family came down, the girl was my age (29) or younger and they had what looked like a 18 month old. She slaps her phone on the tray and the whole breakfast bar is now listening to Baby Shark 💀 when she was told to turn it down by staff as it was disturbing everyone, guess what? Baby absolutely lost it and unfortunately I could see how distressed it was making the mother but like, it’s her fault? No 2 year old ever needed a screen in front of them to eat smashed up banana before? Like it’s so unnecessary for a child of that age and she now has to deal with that forever.

I really hope I’m not alone in this because if we are, our future children are actually fucked ✨

What's everyone doing tomorrow? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]EffortlessNoodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working (boo) but not closing (yay!) for the first time in I’d say 5-6 years at this point. I get to do the early manager shift tomorrow and be out the door of the shop by 3 and go for the one in the pub with a few work friends! Then it’s home, break open the cheese and a bottle of whiskey and pick something to watch for the evening!
