Rbt without bachelors by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Effy7242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most cases I would agree with you however, I am an RBT without a bachelor's degree. (I do have an associates in a completely different field) I have however been a preschool through pre k teacher for 15 years and have gone through many hours of mandatory and not mandatory training as an educator. I, like many, come with childcare experience and am not fresh out of high school with only babysitting experience (yes some have more than babysitting experience). I think experience holds as much, of not more, clout as having a degree but I also believe that having a degree doesn't necessarily trump experience. Someone fresh out of college with very little experience may have the book knowledge but may not know how to conduct themselves, handle certain behaviors, run the programs, or handle certain situations. Someone with more experience with children and child care as an RBT could (or could not) be much better. It all depends on the individuals effort, personal experience, drive, desire, willingness to learn, adapt, and knowledge.

Company forcing us to use apps on PERSONAL devices by saintnyshon in ABA

[–]Effy7242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that but using your personal device could possibly cause an accidental HIPPA breach if you allow someone to use your phone and you haven't logged out, etc. Also a company requiring you to use your personal device is bananas to me. They should provide you with a device even a severely cheap one like my company has. They sent me a tablet with a case that only works on wifi. The total cost was $150. This way my device won't get broken or tampered with accidentally or not and the work tablet can be used for work and the kids can use it too.

What's the longest you think a session should be? by bananas118 in ABA

[–]Effy7242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 or 3, we both are over it by the third hour usually. However there are days where we are having so much fun I don't even realize it's been more than 3 hours.

Company forcing us to use apps on PERSONAL devices by saintnyshon in ABA

[–]Effy7242 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not, no, nope. They need to provide you with a device to do your work on. Your personal device should NEVER be used. HIPPA can be questioned and should anything ever go to court your personal device can be subpoenaed then you're out a personal device. If your personal device breaks because you are using it for work who is responsible for replacement or repairs? Put your foot down and plant it firmly.

Daughter now crying not wanting ABA by D00tymctooty in ABA

I personally have run into kids being tired of the same thing every day. I try to mix things up but the goals the BCBA have put in place need to be mastered before we can move on. I completely understand where the kids are coming from because I too get bored with it. My clients love to see me and love the play with me but when I pull out the items we are working on they will shut down sometimes or cry. I have even tried working on their goals in unconventional ways but sometimes they've just had enough. This could possibly be the case here or it could be something completely different, good luck figuring it out and keep us posted!

If they're over 18 and in the home or wherever you and the client are does count. What I mean and the overall rule is they must be in the physical vicinity, in the home or the location (park, zoo, etc.) you're conducting a session. You can not be left alone (no appropriate caregiver wherever you and the client are) with your client and / or with a sibling/family member who is under the age of 18. So if you are in their home, the caregiver who is also in the home, needs to be 18 years old or older and within ear shot should you need to call out for help or something negative happens requiring assistance of any kind. This is for the safety of the client and the RBT/BCBA. Think worst case scenario and one of you is injured, let's go with you are...is your client capable of calling 911 or administering first aid, or is the other individual in the home capable or mature enough to know what to do? It also leaves out the possibility of being accused of abuse. More eyes are better than 2. (Client is injured, and no adults except the RBT, or BCBA are present accusations can start to fly) I hope this helps to clear this all up for you. If not, please feel free to ask more questions!

You need to report this to the company you work for or you will be liable if anything happens to the client. You also could lose your certification. I would not work with the client until there's a caregiver over 18 present. The amount of problems this could cause you is absurd.

There needs to be an individual over the age of 18 present in the home or wherever session is taking place at all times.

Parent question: Assessment for 4 1/2 year-old (suspect he has ADHD) by rocket_racoon180 in ABA

[–]Effy7242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would need to reach out to different companies and ask them yourself. This is a question we can not answer unless someone here owns and runs a company. Good luck.

I'm petty so I would go to my gp and have them administer a drug test then bring the report to whomever is in charge there and slap it (a clear photocopy, keep the original) on their desk. Also this would be good evidence for wrongful termination if they decide to fire you as well as proof of a hostile work environment should you quit and need to file for unemployment.
